Facile access to γ-aminothiols from 1,3-thiazines via a microwave-assisted three-component reaction

A new efficient and general synthetic methodology to access γ-aminothiols was investigated and developed. 1,3-Thiazines were used as convenient precursors and were prepared by a fast microwave-assisted three-component reaction (3CR) of thioamides, aldehydes, and alkenes. The transformation of thiazines into aminothiols was achieved via a thiazinium salt hydrolysis, in three very facile steps.     

Developments of Asymmetric Synthesis Mediated by Chiral Sulfur Reagents

Abstract

Our work on the thio-Claisen rearrangement mediated by an adjacent sulfinyl group is reviewed. The substrates could easily be prepared on a large scale from diacetone-D-glucose. The rearrangement was effected with a diastereoselectivity of 95:5, in favor of the (S,S) or the (R,R) isomer. An approach to natural bis(lactones) was investigated, using a halolactonization reaction and a second [3,3] sigmatropic shift, again mediated by the sulfinyl group. The second part deals with the catalytic enantioselective benzylidenation of aldehydes, mediated by chiral sulfur ylides. We have introduced simple C ₂ symmetric thiolanes for that purpose. The procedure is very practical and enantiomeric excesses up to 96% have been reported for the model of stilbene oxide. A series of ferrocenyl sulfides with planar chirality has also been investigated, leading to unexpected diastereoselectivities and enantiomeric excesses up to 94%.     

An Improved Procedure for the Synthesis of Prostaglandin Analogues

Hydrozirconation-iodination of a terminal acetylene followed by lithium-iodide exchange and finally dilithio cyanocuprate mediated conjugate addition to an appropriate cyclopentenone is reported as an efficient method for the synthesis of prostaglandin analogues.     

Photo-induced control of bubble domains in chiral–nematic liquid crystal by a violet laser beam

The stable bubble domains generated by mixing 10% of chiral molecules into an azobenzene liquid crystal (LC)-doped nematic host can be optically controlled by a violet laser beam (415 nm). The photon-induced reversible trans–cis photo-isomerisation of azobenzene changes the helical twisting power (HTP) of LC mixtures in which the HTP of cis-azobenzene LC is lower than trans-azobenzene LC. Under the irradiation of an optical field (>20 mW cm^???2), the helical pitch distance, which is inverted proportional to the HTP, increases and the bubble domains disappear. Immediate obstruction of laser light irradiation initiates cholesteric nucleation, merging of domains and the subsequent generation of stably dispersed bubble domains.     

Synthesis of New Glucosylated Porphyrins Bearing an α‐d‐Linkage

This paper presents the synthesis of two new glucosyl tritolylporphyrins in which the carbohydrate moiety is connected through a carboxymethyl glycosidic α‐D‐linkage. These compounds have been obtained by reaction between porphyrins bearing an amino function with a lactone prepared from the available disaccharide isomaltulose. The photocytotoxicity of these compounds against K562 human chronic myelogenous leukemia cells has been evaluated in comparison to Photofrin II.
