Mixed Ligand Complexes of Zinc Acetylacetonate with substituted pyridines and quinolines-penta co-ordination

Zinc acetylacetonate was reacted in methanolic medium with substituted pyridines and quinolines, and eleven non-electrolytic, pentacoordinated mixed-ligand complexes [Zn(acac)₂L] have been isolated and characterised. The infra-red spectra indicate the presence of both acetylacetone and the bonded ligand.     

Proton magnetic resonance studies of the association of amino methyl pyridines

Proton magnetic resonance studies of the solutions of (a) 2-amino, 3-methyl pyridine and (b) 2-amino, 6-methyl pyridine in carbontetrachloride show that in these molecules there is an equilibrium between monomers and hydrogen-bonded dimers. The equilibrium constants for the two cases have been obtained. Evidence has also been obtained to show that chloroform forms hydrogen bond with the ring nitrogen of these compounds. These NMR results have been compared with those obtained earlier from infra-red studies.     

Ortho effects in organic molecules on electron impact. Part 16. Novel oxygen transfers from the nitro group to acetylenic carbons in 2-nitrodiphenylacetylenes

Oxygen transfers to both acetylene carbons are noticed in parallel fragmentation pathways during the electron impact induced decompositions of 2-nitrodiphenylacetylene. The oxygen transfer to β-acetylenic carbon leads to the most abundant ion corresponding to benzoyl cation while transfer to the α-acetylenic carbon affords less intense fragments corresponding to [M? OH]⁺, [M? CO]^{+ ˙} and [M? CO₂]^{+ ˙}. The proposed fragmentation pathways and ion structures are supported by high-resolution data, linked-scan spectra and chemical substitution.     

Effective atomic number studies in clay minerals for total photon interaction in the energy region 10 keV–10 MeV

Effective atomic numbers (Z_eff) of different clay minerals are calculated for total photon interaction in the energy region 10 keV–10 MeV. The variation of Z_eff with energy is discussed by comparing with the similar studies made for alloys and compounds from our laboratory.     

A carbohydrate-based approach for the total synthesis of 1,3-polyol/alpha-pyrone antifungal natural products

[Chemical reaction: see text] An elimination and stereoselective hydrogenation of alpha-D-glucoheptonic-gamma-lactone derivative has been applied to prepare a differentially protected anti,anti-1,3,5-triol system, the utility of which has been extended for the total synthesis of anti-fungal 1,3-polyol/alpha-pyrone natural products.     

Secondary flow of a conducting fluid in a rotating straight annular pipe

A theoretical analysis is made of the flow of a conducting viscous and incompressible fluid through a straight annular pipe of circular cross-section flowing under a constant pressure gradient. The pipe is rotated about an axis perpendicular to it and also there is imposed a uniform magnetic field transverse to the motion. The secondary flow pattern has been studied in detail for small values of angular velocity and Hartman number.     

NMR and IR studies of the interactions of compounds containing OH group with some ethylenes

Interactions of compounds containing OH group with acrylonitrile, 2 : 3 dichloropropene, allyl cyanide and allyl halides have been studied using NMR and IR techniques. Hydrogen bonds of the type O-H ··· N have been detected. With allyl halides bonds of the type O-H ··· Cl have been detected for allyl chloride only. The value of the equilibrium constant has been calculated for O-H ··· N bonds using IR studies.
