The use of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) in the biomedical area has been increasing as an alternative to the growing bacterial resistance to antibiotics. In this research, SeNPs were synthesized by green synthesis using ascorbic acid (AsAc) as a reducing agent and methanolic extract of Calendula officinalis L. flowers as a stabilizer. Characterization of SeNPs was performed by UV-vis spectrophotometry, infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. SeNPs of 40–60 nm and spherical morphologies were obtained. The antibacterial activity of marigold extracts and fractions was evaluated by disk diffusion methodology. The evaluation of SeNPs at different incubation times was performed through the colony-forming unit (CFU) count, in both cases against Serratia marcescens, Enterobacter cloacae, and Alcaligenes faecalis bacteria. Partial antibacterial activity was observed with methanolic extracts of marigold leaves and flowers and total inhibition with SeNPs from 2 h for S. marcescens, 1 h for E. cloacae, and 30 min for A. faecalis. In addition, SeNPs were found to exhibit antioxidant activity. The results indicate that SeNPs present a potentiated effect of both antimicrobial and antioxidant activity compared to the individual use of marigold extracts or sodium selenite (Na2SeO3). Their application emerges as an alternative for the control of clinical pathogens.  相似文献

A high-angle grain boundary is modeled as a planar defect characterized by its thickness and atomic density. We successively examine the elastic and electronic contributions to the solute/grain boundary binding energy. We deduce the effect of the grain boundary physical parameters on its propensity for segregation. The thickness of high-angle grain boundaries is not a fundamental parameter for segregation. The atomic density in the grain boundary controls the electronic binding energy. The rate of change of elastic constants with the density is the important factor in the elastic contribution to segregation. We conclude that segregation to boundaries with small excess volumes is not precluded.  相似文献

We consider the full system of compressible Navier–Stokes equations for heat conducting fluid. We show that the temperature is uniformly positive for t ≥  t 0 (for any t 0 > 0) for any solutions with finite initial entropy. The assumptions on the viscosity and conductivity coefficients are minimal (for instance, the solutions constructed by Feireisl in (Oxford Lecture Series in Mathematics and its Applications, vol 26, 2004) verify all the requirements).   相似文献

[Structure: see text]. Three universal solid supports exhibiting an hydroxyl function were prepared. The introduction of a first H-phosphonate diester linkage which was kept throughout the elongation allowed the release of 3'-hydroxyl oligonucleotides by a transesterification mechanism. The transesterification was performed in a few minutes with either amino alcohols or K2CO3/methanol. Starting from a hydroxyl solid support, tandem oligonucleotides were synthesized and the solid support was easily recyclable. This strategy was extended to the release of an oligonucleotide from the solid support by a nonbasic treatment opening the way to the synthesis of base-sensitive oligonucleotides thanks to the selective deprotection of a hydroxyl in beta of the H-phosphonate diester linkage.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for modeling microgeometric structures of porous media with a predominant using successive cross-sections. The proposed model takes into account the properties of diffusive flow in capillaries. In order to characterize uncertainty and imprecision occurring in geometric features of cross-sections, we introduce the concept of connection degrees as well as tracking degrees based on fuzzy theory. The proposed model can be used for classifying different types of media and finding the relationship between the geometric structure of a porous medium and its physical properties. This model has been successfully applied to polyester yarn structure.  相似文献

We discuss the simultaneous existence of phononic and photonic band gaps in two types of phononic crystals slabs, namely periodic arrays of nanoholes in a Si membrane and of Si nanodots on a SiO2 membrane. In the former geometry, we investigate in detail both the boron nitride lattice and the square lattice with two atoms per unit cell (these include the square, triangular and honeycomb lattices as particular cases). The stability of a conducting fluid saturating a porous medium, in the presence of a uniform magnetic field, is investigated using the Brinkman model. In the first part of the paper constant-flux thermal boundary conditions are considered for which the onset of convection is known to correspond to a vanishingly small wave number. The external magnetic field is assumed to be aligned with gravity. Closed form solutions are obtained, based on a parallel flow assumption, for a porous layer with either rigid-rigid, rigid-free or free-free boundaries. In the second part of the paper, the linear stability of a porous layer, heated isothermally from below, is investigated using the normal mode technique. The external magnetic field is applied either vertically or horizontally. Solutions are obtained for the case of a porous layer with free boundaries. Results for a pure viscous fluid and a Darcy (densely packed) porous medium emerge from the present analysis as limiting cases.  相似文献

The transient natural convection in a fluid contained in a rectangular enclosure, the wall of which is maintained at a uniform temperature which changes at a steady rate, is approached by a numerical method. Numerical solutions are obtained forPr=0.73, 7.3 and 73 and a range of Rayleigh numbersRa=102 ~ 108. At relatively low Rayleigh numbers the flow is characterized by the development of double cells with flow up the center and down the sidewalk However it was found that an increase of the Rayleigh number leads to the development of strong secondary circulation on the axis of symmetry of the cavity near the top wall. Thus, as the Rayleigh number is increased the secondary cells grow in size. The effects of the secondary cells on the temperature field and heat transfer coefficients are discussed. Most results are obtained for the case of a square cavity (E=2) but the influence of the aspect ratio of the cavity is also studied forE=1 and 4.  相似文献

A plug‐flow reactor coated with carbon‐doped TiO2 (C‐TiO2 ) powder was investigated for the control of vaporous aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and o‐xylene (BTEX)) under a range of experimental conditions. The characteristics of the as‐prepared C‐TiO2 and a reference Degussa P25 TiO2 powder were examined using X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse‐reflectance ultraviolet‐visible‐near infrared spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The experimental conditions for the photocatalytic performance of the as‐prepared C‐TiO2 photocatalyst were controlled using three operational parameters, relative humidity, flow rate, and input concentration. Unlike other target compounds, very little benzene was removed by the C‐TiO2 photocatalyst under visible‐light irradiation. In contrast, the C‐TiO2 exhibited higher removal efficiencies for the other three target compounds (toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene) compared with those achieved using unmodified TiO2 under visible‐light irradiation. The highest removal efficiency was obtained at a relative humidity value of 45%. Specifically, the toluene removal efficiency determined at a relative humidity of 45% was 78%, whereas it was close to 0%, 7.2%, and 5.5% for relative humidity values of 20%, 70%, and 95%, respectively. In addition, the removal efficiencies for the three target compounds decreased as the flow rate or input concentration increased. These findings indicate that the as‐prepared C‐TiO2 photocatalyst could be used for the removal of toxic vaporous aromatics under optimized operating conditions.  相似文献
