Second-order effects and Saint Venant’s principle in the torsion problem of a nonlinear elastic rod

The torsion problem of a circular nonlinear elastic rod loaded by end moments is considered. The solution constructed by the method of successive approximations taking into account second-order effects is compared with the solution obtained by a semi-inverse method. It is shown that the dead-loading assumption breaks the symmetry of the Cauchy stress tensor in a certain region. Structure of anode sheath in self-sustaining discharge with closed electron drift

The structure of the anode sheath and the characteristics of the closed Hall current discharge occurring in plasma accelerators are investigated in the diffusion approximation. The analysis takes account of weak processes (variation of ionization frequency with electron energy, electron energy losses, presence of a detachment region at the anode). The distributions along the sheath of potential, particle densities, currents, and other parameters are obtained. The effect on the characteristics of the discharge of varying the magnetic field and the input of working substance is considered. Anomalous readings of Pitot tubes in suspensions of solid particles and in solutions of polymers,lowering the turbulent friction

An anomalous lowering of the readings of Pitot tubes in flows of suspensions of solid particles of equal densities has been observed in a liquid. A universal dependence has been obtained, connecting the defect in the readings of Pitot tubes with their diameter, with the diameter of the particles of the suspensions, with the velocity of the flow, and with the volumetric concentration of the particles. The article presents new data on anomalous readings of Pitot tubes in polymer solutions, lowering the turbulent friction resistance. The character of this phenomenon is analogous to the lowering of the readings in suspensions. It is postulated that the anomalous readings of Pitot tubes in polymer solutions are connected with elasticoviscous associates of macromolecules of the polymer and molecules of the solvent. Effect of alloying and temperature of deformation on the grain structure and phase composition of Ni3Al intermetallic

The structure of Ni₃Al intermetallic alloyed with boron and hafnium is studied at various temperatures of deformation by means of diffraction and scan electron microscopy. The alloy was produced through self-propagating synthesis. The phase composition of the alloy is determined. The effect of doping with boron and hafnium on the alloy structure morphology is revealed.

Adsorption phenomena at high pressures and temperatures 1. Method of investigation; adsorption of nitrogen on NaA zeolite

A simple precision volumetric-gravimetric setup was elaborated and created for determining the equilibrium and kinetic parameters of adsorption in the 1–160 MPa pressure range and the 300–600 K temperature range. The isotherms of adsorption of nitrogen on crystalline NaA zeolite in the indicated temperature and pressure range were measured. A method was proposed for determining the pore volume of zeolites based on conducting adsorption measurements at high pressures of the gas phase.
