Growth and study of single crystals of (Na,K)NbO<Subscript>3</Subscript> solid solutions

(Na, K)NbO₃ crystals with a perovskite structure and a KNbO₃ content up to 40 mol % were grown from flux with the use of the solvent NaBO₂. The dielectric measurements of the crystals grown revealed phase transitions that had never been observed before in ceramic samples.     

Ultrashort pulse laser osteotomy

Laser treatment of bone tissue has already been the subject of many studies to find substitutes for mechanical instruments that are nowadays used in implantology and orthopaedics. Mainly lasers with pulse durations in the μs region have been tested leaving surface features that are not always satisfactory. Therefore, in the present study laser osteotomy has been performed with a 330 fs Yb:glass laser, λ = 1040 nm, at a pulse repetition rate of 1 kHz. For bovine spongiosa, compacta, and cartilage, the ablation thresholds as well as the ablation rates for various pulse energies have been determined. Additionally, quadratic areas have been ablated in bone tissue. The remaining morphology has been analyzed via scanning electron microscopy. Laser ablation has also been performed with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser, λ = 2780 nm, PRR = 20 Hz, τ ～ 50 μs. The results of USPL and Erbium laser ablation are compared.     

Carleman problem for two pairs of functions in a ring

We consider a particular case of the matrix Carleman problem for two pairs of functions in a ring and find a constructive solution of this problem. In addition, we propose an algorithm for the construction of solutions for two infinite systems of smooth transition and for a system of two singular equations of special type. On the embedding problem with noncommutative kernel of order p4. VI

In the case of number fields the embedding problem of a p-extension with non-Abelian kernel of order p⁴ is studied. The two kernels of order 3⁴ with generators α, γ and relations α⁹ = 1, [α,α]³=1,[α,αγγ]==1,[αγγ]=α³,γ³=1 or γ³=α³ and the kernel of order 2⁴ with generators α, β, γ and relations α⁴=1 β²,[αγ]=1, [α,γ]=1,[βγ]=α² are considered. For kernels of odd order the embedding problem is always solvable. For the kernel of order 16 the solvability conditions are reduced to those for the associated problems at the Archimedean points, and to the compatibility condition. Bibliography: 9 titles. Exact solutions of a nonlinear sigma-model in a curved space and the theory of magnetically ordered media with variable saturation magnetization

Stationary solitons are found to occur in two-dimensional media with a variable saturation magnetization whose square is a harmonic function of the coordinates. It is shown in this case that the Landau-Lifshits equation can be reduced to the integrable O(3) sigma-model in curved space. Some properties of the solutions obtained are discussed. Unoccupied electronic states of epitaxial iron layers on Cu(100)

Inverse photoemission spectra were taken for thin epitaxial iron films on Cu(100). For a film thickness of eight monolayers the observed electronic states are characteristic for a fcc(100) surface. Thed-bands of iron show a ferromagnetic exchange splitting of 1.1 eV, considerably smaller than the bulk value of 1.8 eV, which we observe for film thicknesses above 18 monolayers.     

Phase diagram of multilayer magnetic structures

Multilayer ferromagnet-layered antiferromagnet (Fe/Cr) structures frustrated because of roughness of interlayer boundaries were studied by mathematical modeling methods. The phase diagram of a three-layer system (plotted as film thickness versus the degree of roughness of the interfaces) was obtained, and the order parameter distributions in each phase were determined. The character of phase transitions in this system was studied. The applicability range of the Slonczewski magnetic proximity model was determined.     

Influence of layer and anisotropic fluctuations of the refractive index on the beyond-the-horizon SHF propagation in the troposphere over the sea when there is an evaporation duct

On the basis of the invariant imbedding method the disturbance theory for complex constants of propagation is proposed. This approach allows us to consider the influence of layer and anisotropic fluctuations of refractive index on the beyond-the-horizon propagation in the adiabatic approximation with the existence of an evaporation duct. Finally, the authors consider some examples of the calculations and investigate stochastic effects connected with the interaction between fluctuating and regular waveguides.
