We have detected excess micromotion of trapped ions by modulating the trapping voltage. This radio-frequency (rf) modulation
induces parametric resonance and excites secular motion of the trapped ions when they possess excess motion. This technique
has been applied to laser-cooled ions in a linear rf trap and it provides optimum values for compensating the trapping field.
We found that the technique has sensitivity equal to or greater than the conventional method for detecting excess micromotion.
Because any laser propagation direction can be used, this method is expected to be applied to surface-electrode traps. 相似文献

We report the observation of different localized structures coexisting for the same parameter values in an extended system. The experimental findings are carried out in a nonlinear optical interferometer and are fully confirmed by numerical simulations. The existence of each kind of localized structure is put in relation to a corresponding delocalized pattern observed. A quantitative evaluation of the range of pump parameter allowing bistability between localized structures is given. The phenomenon reported results to be robust in parameter space. 相似文献

We consider two-particle correlations which appear in relativistic nuclear collisions owing to the quantum statistics of identical
particles in the frame of two formalisms: wave-function and current parametrizations. The first one is based on solution of
the Cauchy problem, whereas the second one is a so-called current parametrization of the source of secondary particles. We
argue that these two parametrizations of the source coincide when the wave-function at freeze-out times is put into a specific
correspondence with a current. Then, the single-particle Wigner density evaluated in both approaches gives the same result.

The unusually narrow features in the fluorescence from 85Rb driven by two laser fields L1 and L2, reported in [1], are explained on the basis of a four-level density matrix calculation. The L2 laser enables atom transfer to the fluorescing levels connected by the strong L1 laser. In turn the L1 laser causes the Autler-Townes splitting of the upper levels connected by L2 laser. These two effects are shown to maximise fluorescence within a narrow spectral range of the scanned L2 laser due to velocity selection of atoms from co-propagating and counter propagating L1 and L2 lasers. The analysis reveals the existence of narrow spectral features from a collection of atoms at room temperature even in the absence of induced coherences between the levels.Received: 2 July 2004, Published online: 21 September 2004PACS:

We demonstrate a compact, diode-pumped Nd:GdVO4 laser with a repetition rate of 9.66 GHz and 0.5-W average output power. The laser is passively mode locked with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM), yielding 12-ps-long sech2-shaped pulses. For synchronization of the pulse train to an external reference clock, the SESAM is mounted on a piezoelectric transducer. With an electronic feedback loop of only a few kilohertz loop bandwidth we achieved a rms timing jitter of 146 fs (integrated from 10 Hz to 10 MHz). This is an upper limit because it is mostly limited by the measurement system. The laser setup with a simple linear cavity has a footprint of only 130 mm x 30 mm. 相似文献

We use magneto-transport spectroscopy to study a dramatic instability between a low and high conductivity mode in Si/SiGe-based resonant tunneling diodes with an embedded layer of self-assembled Ge hut cluster quantum dots in the Si barrier. In the low current regime a simple activation-type behavior with an astonishingly low activation energy in the order of 0.1 meV is determined. In the high current regime a region of negative differential conduction can be observed. We discuss the influence of different layer structures and magnetic fields. 相似文献

Arsenic has been reported in the literature as one of the few p-type dopants in the technologically promising II-VI semiconductor ZnO. However, there is an ongoing debate whether the p-type character is due to As simply replacing O atoms or to the formation of more complicated defect complexes, possibly involving As on Zn sites. We have determined the lattice location of implanted As in ZnO by means of conversion-electron emission channeling from radioactive (73)As. In contrast to what one might expect from its nature as a group V element, we find that As does not occupy substitutional O sites but in its large majority substitutional Zn sites. Arsenic in ZnO (and probably also in GaN) is thus an interesting example for an impurity in a semiconductor where the major impurity lattice site is determined by atomic size and electronegativity rather than its position in the periodic system. 相似文献

The structural, electronic and optical properties of HgAl2Se4 are investigated using the full potential linear augmented plane wave method based on density functional theory. The calculated structural parameters using LDA are in excellent agreement with the available experimental result. The obtained energy band gap (2.24 eV) using EV-GGA approximation is in excellent agreement with experimental data (2.20 eV). Variation in the energy band gap as a function of the unit cell lattice parameter has been studied. The optical properties show a considerable anisotropy, which makes this compound very useful for various linear–nonlinear optical devices. 相似文献

A calibration technique for the constant-temperature hot-wire anemometer is presented, which is based on traversing the probe
through the boundary layer of a flat plate while simultaneously performing fluctuation measurements. The free stream Mach
number was M = 2.54, and the Reynolds number Red, based on wire diameter, ranged from 9 to 23. A comparison of the sensitivity values obtained with the aid of such a calibration
procedure — under the condition of neglecting low temperature loadings (t<0.6) — agrees well with sensitivities determined with free-stream data-The use of a modified transfer function for correcting
the power spectra of flow perturbations revealed a conformity of wide parts of the corrected spectra with the Kolmogorov decay.
The fluctuation levels of total temperature and mass flux were computed for the boundary layer of a flat plate.
