Chemistry of the phenoxathiins II. Synthesis of 1-azaphenoxathiin

The synthesis of 1-azaphenoxathiin, the parent ring system of a recently reported class of novel CNS agents is described. The ¹³C-nmr spectrum and its assignment are also reported as a model for structure confirmation studies.

The reaction of N₃H₇SO₄ with barium compounds BaX₂ in aqueous solutions yields under precipitation of BaSO₄ solutions which contain the corresponding salts of triazane N₃H₆X (X = NO, ClO, Cl^?, CH₃COO^?, N₃, CN^?, Br^?, OH^?). Due to the instability of the triazanium ion, NH₂? NH₂? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm N}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}H₂, the solid triazanium salts could only be isolated in mixture with the also formed BaSO₄. The properties of these compounds are described.     

Chemistry of the phenoxathiins VIII. Synthesis of 7-chlorobenzo[1″.2″:5,6:3″,4″:5′,6′] bis[1,4] oxathiino[3,2-b:3′.2′-b′]dipyridine

As a continuation of recent study on the synthesis of a bis[1,4]oxathiinodipyridine ring system, we would now like to report the preparation of 7-chlorobenzo[1″,2″:5,6:3″,4″:5′,6′]-bis[1,4]oxathiino[3,2-b: 3′,2′-b]dipyridine. Although a potentially complex reaction with several products possible, the title compound was formed exclusively, suggesting considerable mechanistic selectivity. The characterization of the product by FT-¹H-nmr as well as its mass spectral fragmentation pathways are also reported.     

Microcomputerized ultrahigh-speed transient digitizer and luminescence lifetime instrument

A high-speed transient digitizer and a versatile luminescence lifetime insrument are described. A Z-80-based microcomputer permits rapid acquisition of transients, signal averaging, baseline subtraction, single or double exponential decay fitting, deconvolution, and graphics display of the transient and its semilogarithmic plot of decays on an oscillo-scope or an X-Y plotter. Data can also be transferred to more powerful computers for further data reduction or higher quality plots. Applications that exploit the speed and convenience of the system are described.
