Dynamical Auger emission induced by multistate vibronic coupling in the core-excited states of the BCl3 molecule

The Auger emission following the resonant excitation of the BCl3 molecule has been investigated using monochromatized synchrotron radiation. The B 1s excitation to the unoccupied Anti-bonding 4e(') orbital enhances the shoulder structure in the low kinetic energy side of the photoemission from the 2e(') valence bonding orbital. Based on a series of quantum mechanical calculations, this shoulder structure is interpreted as the dynamical Auger emission which reflects the B-Cl stretching nuclear motion and appears as a result of the purely multistate vibronic coupling effect among the Jahn-Teller split B 1s(-1)4e(') E' states and the closely lying B 1s(-1)3a(')(1) A'1 state.     

Furan derivatives. Part 10. Synthesis of cyclohepta[cd]benzofuran

Cyclohepta[cd]benzofuran 2 was synthesized by heating (5-oxo-5H-benzocyclohepten-4-yloxy)acetic acid 16 with sodium acetate in acetic anhydride or by photocyclization of 16 in acetonitrile. Several reactions of cyclohepta[cd]benzofuran 2 were examined. Protonation of 2 with trifluoroacetic acid occurred at the 2-position to give a tropylium ion 17 . Catalytic hydrogenation of 2 with palladium on charcoal proceeded smoothly to give tetrahydrocyclohepta[cd]benzofuran 18 . The Diels-Alder reaction of 2 with tetracyano-ethylene produced an adduct 19 . Formylation of 2 with phosphorus oxychloride and dimethylformamide occurred easily at the 2-position to afford compound 20 . Cyclohepta[cd]benzofuran 2 has both properties of heptafulvene and benzofuran.

Nucleophilic substitution reaction at an sp carbon of vinyl halides with an intramolecular thiol moiety: synthesis of thio-heterocycles

This article presents a full account of intramolecular vinylic substitution reactions of bromoalkenes having an acetylthio moiety, which give sulfur-containing heterocycles such as dihydrothiophene, tetrahydrothiopyran, and 2-alkylidenethietane derivatives. The reaction pathways of the substitution reactions were investigated by theoretical and experimental studies.     

Effect of the chemical species of arsenic on sensitivity in graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.

The sensitivity of graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) to arsenobetaine (AB) was 1.3-times higher than to inorganic As. In order to understand the mechanism underlying this observation, the atomization processes for both chemical species were investigated in terms of the enthalpy change (DeltaH) during the atomization process in GFAAS. The enthalpy change of AB was slightly lower than that of inorganic As, which suggested that AB was atomized more efficiently than was inorganic As. Moreover, it was observed that some co-existing organic materials enhanced the analytical sensitivity of inorganic As. The sensitivity difference between inorganic As and AB depended upon the mechanisms of their atomization processes.     

Furan derivatives. Part 12 . Synthesis of 2,5-dioxacyclohepta[jkl]-as-indacenes

A variety of 2,5-dioxacyclohepta[jkl]-as-indacenes 5, 7–14 were synthesized as a new heterocycle by the treatment of diethyl (5,9-dioxobenzocyclohepten-1,4-diyloxy)diacetates 4a-e with potassium hydroxide or sodium hydride in dioxane. The mechanism of furan-ring formation from 4a-e was discussed.
