Many disordered and non-crystalline metallic conductors are characterized by both a negative temperature coefficient (α = ?-1 d?/dT) of resistivity ? over a wide range of temperatures T and a gradual leveling-off of ? at low temperatures. Experimental results will be presented to show that ? varies as -?n T (for T ? the Debye temperature) in contrast to the prediction of existing theories. This anomalous electron transport can be understood in terms of an attractive interaction between conduction electrons and localized excitations arising from a structural indeterminacy in the atomic arrangement. The possibility of using this scattering mechanism to explain the unusual deviation from linear T dependence of resistivity (the bulge effect) in many structurally unstable superconductors such as A-15 Nb3Ge, V3Si, bcc Nb and alloys containing the ω-phase is also discussed.  相似文献

Although initially quite controversial, it is now widely accepted that the Cooper pairs in optimally doped cuprate superconductors have predominantly dx2-y2 wave function symmetry, and the controversy has now shifted to whether the pairing symmetry changes away from optimal doping. Here we present phase-sensitive tricrystal experiments on three cuprate systems: Y(0.7)Ca(0.3)Ba(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) (Ca-doped Y-123), La2-xSrxCuO4 (La-214), and Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) (Bi-2212), with doping levels covering the underdoped, optimal, and overdoped regions. Our work implies that predominantly d x2-y2 pairing symmetry is robust over a large variation in doping.  相似文献

We present phase-sensitive evidence that the electron-doped cuprates Nd(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-y) (NCCO) and Pr(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-y) (PCCO) have d-wave pairing symmetry. This evidence was obtained by observing the half-flux quantum effect, using a scanning SQUID microscope, in c-axis-oriented films of NCCO or PCCO epitaxially grown on tricrystal [100] SrTiO3 substrates designed to be frustrated for a d(x(2)-y(2)) order parameter. Samples with two other configurations, designed to be unfrustrated for a d-wave superconductor, do not show the half-flux quantum effect.  相似文献

Background  

Short-term habituation of the startle response represents an elementary form of learning in mammals. The underlying mechanism is located within the primary startle pathway, presumably at sensory synapses on giant neurons in the caudal pontine reticular nucleus (PnC). Short trains of action potentials in sensory afferent fibers induce depression of synaptic responses in PnC giant neurons, a phenomenon that has been proposed to be the cellular correlate for short-term habituation. We address here the question whether both this synaptic depression and the short-term habituation of the startle response are localized at the presynaptic terminals of sensory afferents. If this is confirmed, it would imply that these processes take place prior to multimodal signal integration, rather than occurring at postsynaptic sites on PnC giant neurons that directly drive motor neurons.  相似文献

A trace elemental analysis was carried out in various parts of 12 anticancer medicinal plants, using the PIXE (particle‐induced X‐ray emission) technique. A 3‐MeV proton beam was used to excite the samples, and spectra were recorded using a Si (Li) detector. Data analysis was done using the GUPIX software. The elements Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Br and Sr were identified, and their concentrations estimated. The results of the present study provide justification for the usage of these medicinal plants in the development of anticancer drugs. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
