Polarization effects on theft values of the beta transitions to155Gd

A good agreement between theory and experiment is achieved if besides the Coriolis force effect, the centrifugal and spin-spin polarization effects are considered in the calculation of the absoluteft values for the ΔN=2 beta transitions¹⁵⁵Eu→¹⁵⁵Gd. An important improvement is also obtained for the first forbidden transitions if the spin-spin polarization effects are taken into account.     

Aminyloxides (nitroxides) from 1-hydroxy-2-indolinones

1-Hydroxy-3,3-dimethylindolin-2-ones (2) formed by intramolecular photocyclisation of o-nitro-t-butylbenzenes (1) are oxidized to aminyloxides (4a-g). Their ESR spectra are reported and discussed.     

Two channelN/D calculation of the p11 partial wave of πN scattering at low energies

Thep ₁₁-phase shift of πN scattering is calculated by a two-channel matrixN/D method using the reaction σN→σN as second channel. The calculated amplitude has the two main features of the p₁₁ partial wave at low energies: the nucleon pole and the zero of the phase near the inelastic threshold.     

Separation of alpha-amino acid enantiomers by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography after derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde and a sodium salt of 1-thio-beta-D-glucose

A sensitive system for D,L-amino acid analysis has been developed, using fluorescence derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde in the presence of sodium salt of 1-thio-beta-D-glucose. The reagents rapidly form fluorescent diastereoisomeric derivatives with primary amino acids. These derivatives are efficiently separated on a conventional reversed-phase column with an analysis time of 60 min. Simultaneous determination of enantiomers of various amino acids was achieved by a simple binary gradient elution with methanol in 0.05 M aqueous sodium acetate.     

Beam-foil lifetimes of n = 3 levels in Fe XIII to Fe XVI I. Experiment using position sensitive detection

Positron-sensitive detection was used to measure the spatial decay in intensity of twelve transitions in Fe XIII to Fe XVI. A two-meter grazing incidence spectrometer was equipped with a 25 mm microchannel plate coupled to a resistive anode encoder and was positioned to simultaneously record all EUV radiation in the wavelength range from 24.5 to 31 nm. Data for foil-excited Fe ions at 35 MeV was accumulated at each of 37 foil positions until a fixed amount of beam charge had been collected in a Faraday cup. The considerable advantages of this improved beam-foil time-of-flight technique are discussed.     

A heuristic method for the capacitated arc routing problem with refill points and multiple loads

We describe a solution procedure for a capacitated arc routing problem with refill points and multiple loads. This problem stems from the road network marking in Quebec, Canada. Two different types of vehicles are used: the first type (called servicing vehicle—SV) with a finite capacity to service the arcs and the other (called refilling vehicle—RV) to refill the SV vehicle.The RV can deliver multiple loads, which means that it meets the SV several times before returning to the depot. The problem consists of simultaneously determining the vehicle routes that minimize the total cost of the two vehicles.We present an integer formulation and a route first-cluster second heuristic procedure. Computational results are provided.     

Fluctuation corrections at first order phase transitions: Application to C60

The temperature dependence of the elastic constants in C₆₀ is quite unusual in the vicinity of the order-disorder phase transition at 260 K, in sharp contrast to simple mean-field calculations. The observed deviations seem to be a combination of dynamical processes, the influence of defects and fluctuation effects. The latter are expected to be important, since the Landau free energy admits a third order term in the order parameter. We develop field theoretic perturbation theory for general models of this type. The formalism is applied to a simple scalar model of C₆₀ and the resulting temperature dependence of elastic constants is discussed.
