Evaluation of mass transfer rate during Ziegler-Natta propylene polymerization

Mass transfer which affects the rate of propylene polymerization with titanium trichloride–triethylaluminum, has been evaluated by use of a new method developed for this heterogeneous reaction. The polymerization was carried out with the usual flask reactor equipped with a paddle stirrer; the rate of gas absorption into the polymerization slurry was proportional to stirring speed and the reciprocal of the total amount of polymers produced. It has been confirmed that the polymerization rate separated from the absorption rate is purely kinetic (propagation), and an effective physical process, such as monomer transfer through a polymer film covering the catalyst surface, no longer exists.     

Chemistry of organosilicon compounds 118. Novel ring contraction reaction of (η4-1,2-disilacyclohexadiene)iron tricarbonyls

1,1,2,2-Dimethyl-3,6-diphenyl-1,2-disilacyclohexadiene reacts with iron pentacarbonyl or diiron nonacarbonyl to give the corresponding (diene)iron tricarbonyl complex which undergoes novel ring contraction reaction to (η⁴-1,1-dimethyl-2,5-diphenyl-1-silacyclopentadiene)iron tricarbonyl on thermolysis at 160°C. Similar results were observed with 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl-3,4,5,6-tetraphenyl-1,2-disilacyclohexadiene.

An antiviral nucleoside or virazole was synthesized efficiently and regioselectively starting with benzyl cyanoformate.     

CHOICE OF COATINGS FOR THE OPTICAL ELEMENTS IN THE IRRADIATION SYSTEM OF VACUUM-ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION ABOVE 50 nm

The spectral throughput of a vacuum-ultraviolet irradiation system at the SOR-RING facility was examined with various combinations of aluminum-and gold-coated optical elements in a 2.2-m modified Wadsworth monochromator. We found that the optimum was a combination of an aluminum-coated collimating mirror, concave grating, and plane deflecting mirror, and a combination of a gold-coated collimating mirror, concave grating and an aluminum-coated plane deflecting mirror in the wavelength regions 190-110 nm and 110-50 nm, respectively.     

The reaction between nitrous oxide and carbon monoxide over magnesium oxide

The title reaction was carried out with the help of the transient response method over MgO. It was concluded that no catalyst reduction occurred over this catalyst and the reaction proceeded through the reaction between adsorbed nitrous oxide and adsorbed carbon monoxide without participation of MgO oxygen.

Syntheses and electrical conductivity of polyamides containing tetrathiafulvalene moieties in the main chain

Novel polyamides that contain tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) moieties were synthesized by direct polycondensation of Δ^2,2′ -bi-1,3-dithiole-4,4′(5′)-dicarboxylic acid with aromatic diamines in the presence of triphenylphosphine, hexachloroethane, and pyridine. Complexes of these polyamides with bromine were TTF cation radical () salts which resulted from the charge transfer of TTF moieties to bromine. The electrical conductivity of undoped polyamides increased with a decrease in diamine length. By doping the bromine the conductivity of the polyamides was enhanced by 3–5 orders of magnitude and reached 10^?5–;10^?9S cm^?1. Maximum conductivity was observed at the doping ratio of [Br]/[repeat unit] < 1. The electrical conduction in the bromine complexes may be attributed to the hopping of odd electrons of between TTF moieties.
