New benzoxazine and benzothiazine dyes

2H-1,4-benzoxazine can be generated in situ from 1-(o-aminophenoxy)-2,2′-dimethoxyethane in trifluoroacetic acid whence further reaction leads to the benzoxazine bye 7. The benzothiazine dye 9 can be derived in similar fashion from 1-(o-aminophenylthio)-2,2-diethoxyethane.     

Highly enantioselective organocatalysis of the Hajos-Parrish-Eder-Sauer-Wiechert reaction by the beta-amino acid cispentacin

The beta-amino acid cispentacin promotes the Hajos-Parrish-Eder-Sauer-Wiechert reaction with levels of enantioselectivity comparable to or higher than proline.     

Imaging reflection IR spectroscopy as a tool to achieve higher integration for high-throughput experimentation in catalysis research

FTIR spectroscopy in reflection mode combined with a focal plane array (FPA) detector was employed for high-throughput screening of activity of catalysts in n-pentane hydroisomerization. The reactor system was evaluated using reference catalysts Pt-MOR and gamma-alumina of known catalytic activity. By using the reflection setup, a higher degree of parallelization was possible, as compared to previous reports, in which transmission cells had been used. The 49-channel parallel reactor in combination with the FPA-IR optical setup was able to provide reliable information about the activity of different catalysts with relative data error of less than +/-20%.     

An ab initio study of the relative stabilities of the isomers of CH2N2 and SiH2N2

Ab initio SCF calculations of the equilibrium geometries have been carried out on nine possible isomers of MH₂N₂, where M = C or Si, and compared with the results of MNDO calculations. The results for the carbon compounds are in good agreement with available experimental data, but in the case of the silicon compounds, the molecules are predicted to be unstable with respect to decomposition to SiH₂ and N₂. The inclusion of electron correlation at the MP3 level does not alter the order of the relative stabilities, although the importance of the correlation contribution varies substantially between the different isomers.

Archetypal O-acetylation reactions of alcohols and carbohydrates proceed rapidly in high yield under mild conditions in a dicyanamide based ionic liquid, that is not only an effective solvent but also an active base catalyst.
