We consider an Ising model with Kac potential dK(¦x¦) which may have arbitrary sign, and show, following Gates and Penrose, that the free energy in the classical limit0+ can be obtained from a variational principle. When the Fourier transform of the potential has its maximum atp=0 one recovers the usual mean-field theory of magnetism. When the maximum occurs forp 00, however, one obtains an oscillatory or helicoidal phase in which the magnetization near the critical point oscillates with period 2p 0¦. An example with a potential possessing parameter-dependent oscillations is shown to exhibit crossover phenomena and a multicritical Lifshitz point in the classical limit.  相似文献

New cross sections for the reaction e p-->e p eta are reported for total center of mass energy W = 1.5--1.86 GeV and invariant momentum transfer Q2 = 0.25--1.5 (GeV/c)(2). This large kinematic range allows extraction of important new information about response functions, photocouplings, and eta N coupling strengths of baryon resonances. Newly observed structure at W approximately 1.65 GeV is shown to come from interference between S and P waves and can be interpreted with known resonances. Improved values are derived for the photon coupling amplitude for the S11(1535) resonance.  相似文献

Ternary alloy FePt(Au) nanoparticles were prepared by the co-reduction of platinum(II) acetylacetonate and gold(III) acetate and the thermal decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl in hot phenyl ether in the presence of oleic acid and oleylamine ligands. This gave spherical particles with an average diameter of 4.4 nm with a range of diameters from approximately 1.6–9 nm. The as-synthesized particles had a solid solution, face-centered-cubic structure. Though the average composition of the particles was Fe44Pt45Au11, individual particle analysis by Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy–X-ray Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy showed a broad distribution in composition. In general, smaller-sized particles tended to have a lower amount of Au as compared to larger-sized particles. As the Au content increased, the ratio of Fe/Pt widened.  相似文献

We report measured dipolar asymmetry ratios at the LIII edges of the heavy rare-earth metals. The results are compared with a first-principles calculation and excellent agreement is found. A simple model of the scattering is developed, enabling us to reinterpret the resonant x-ray scattering in these materials and to identify the peaks in the asymmetry ratios with features in the spin and orbital moment densities.  相似文献

Rabbits were conditioned to respond behaviorally to auditory stimuli by pairing a white-noise conditioned stimulus (CS) with a corneal airpuff unconditioned stimulus (US). The conditioned response (CR) was movement of the nictitating membrane (NM). After the subjects were responding at better than the 90% correct level, the intensity of the auditory stimulus was reduced to behavioral threshold using a staircase procedure. Simultaneous measurements of neural unit activity and behavioral NM responses were then made in rabbits performing at behavioral threshold. After the experiment was completed neural unit responses during behavioral detection trials were compared to neural responses made during nondetection trials. Neural unit responses to a constant intensity, white-noise stimulus at behavioral threshold were well defined and essentially identical on behavioral detection and nondetection trials in the ventral cochlear nucleus, the ventrolateral division of the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus, and the ventral division of the medial geniculate body. This suggests that an auditory stimulus can be neuronally "detected" without being behaviorally detected, and that the neural "decision" to respond behaviorally is not made in these nuclei. Responses recorded from the dorsomedial division of the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus, the pericentral nucleus of the inferior colliculus, and less commonly in the medial division of the medial geniculate body were also clearly present and nearly identical during the onset of the auditory stimulus, but were sometimes consistently different for detection and nondetection conditions during the latter part of the auditory stimulus. These brain regions appear to receive both auditory and nonauditory inputs, and show responses which are more highly correlated with detection behavior.  相似文献
