Total imernal reflection fluorescence spectroscopy (TIRF) and synchronous scanning technique were combined to study the adsorption behavior of the meso-tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS) at the glass-water interface without any surfactant. The pH dependence of synchronous fluorescence signal at the interface was analyzed. Both unprotonated (TPPS^4-) and diprotonated (H2TPPS^2-) forms of TPPS were observed at the interface. But the interface favored the adsorption of. The apparent estimated pKa2 value shifted from 5.00 in the bulk solution to 2.7 at the interface. Symmetric three-jet events are selected from hadronic Z0 decays such that the two lower energy jets are each produced at an angle of about 150° with respect to the highest energy
jet. In some cases, a displaced secondary vertex is reconstructed in one of the two lower energy jets, which permits the other
lower energy jet to be identified as a gluon jet through anti-tagging. In other cases, the highest energy jet is tagged as
a b jet or as a light quark (uds) jet using secondary vertex or track impact parameter and momentum information. Comparing
the two lower energy jets of the events with a tag in the highest energy jet to the anti-tagged gluon jets yields a direct
comparison of b, uds and gluon jets, which are produced with the same energy of about 24 GeV and under the same conditions.
We observe b jets and gluon jets to have similar properties as measured by the angular distribution of particle energy around
the jet directions and by the fragmentation functions. In contrast, gluon jets are found to be significantly broader and to
have a markedly softer fragmentation function than uds jets. For thek

The electroweak mixing angle is determined with high precision from measurements of the mean difference between forward and
backward hemisphere charges in hadronic decays of the Z. A data sample of 2.5 million hadronic Z decays recorded over the
period 1990 to 1994 in the ALEPH detector at LEP is used. The mean charge separation between event hemispheres containing
the original quark and antiquark is measured for
and
events in subsamples selected by their long lifetimes or using fastD*’s. The corresponding average charge separation for light quarks is measured in an inclusive sample from the anticorrelation
between charges of opposite hemispheres and agrees with predictions of hadronisation models with a precision of 2%. It is
shown that differences between light quark charge separations and the measured average can be determined using hadronisation
models, with systematic uncertainties constrained by measurements of inclusive production of kaons, protons andΛ’s. The separations are used to measure the electroweak mixing angle precisely as sin2
ϑ
w
eff
=0.2322±0.0008(exp.stat.) ±0.0007(exp.syst.)±0.0008(sep.). The first two errors are due to purely experimental sources whereas
the third stems from uncertainties in the quark charge separations.
