Assessing the equation of state and comparing it with other relationships used for determining the surface tension of solids

Some facts regarding the equation of state (EQS) in calculating the surface tension of solids by means of contact angle measurements were manifested. In the present investigation, it was mathematically proved that the surface tension of a solid as estimated by the EQS is in fact equivalent to the Zisman critical surface tension for that same solid. Additionally, the applicability of the EQS's approach in attaining the surface tension of powdered solids by the aid of the capillary rise procedure is also discussed and its limitations are clarified. Furthermore, a methodology was devised so that the surface tension of solids as determined by the EQS could be compared with those calculated by approaches using components of surface tension. This methodology revealed that the applications of approaches based on the geometric mean (i.e. Owens/Wendt and van Oss et al. relationships) are restricted to achieving only high surface tensions of solids.     

Radiation emission from the ＂Rhodotron-TT200＂ cavity

In this paper, the X-rays emitted from the Rhodotron-TT200 cavity have been studied in depth. We found that the Bremsstrahlung interaction is the only contribution of X-ray generation important to safety. The X-ray dose rate in the Rhodotron vault is calculated for normal conditions based on MCNP4C results. The presented calculation shows good agreement with the experimental measurements, which consequently confirms the reliability of the calculation for use in shielding design and other safety aspects.     

1-Methylimidazole-catalyzed reaction between tosylmethyl isocyanide and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates:An efficient synthesis of functionalized pyrroles

An efficient 1-methylimidazole-catalyzed synthesis of dialkyl 2-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1H-pyrrole-3,4-dicarboxylates is described.The reactive 1:1 zwitterionic intermediate formed by the addition of 1-methylimidazole to dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates is trapped by tosylmethyl isocyanide(TOSMIC) to afford the title compounds in excellent yields.     

A series of 1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthenes are prepared using trichloroisocyanuric acid

A series of aromatic aldehydes are turned in to 3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-9-aryl-1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthene derivatives using trichloroisocyanuric acid(TCCA) as the catalyst.     

Microwave-assisted aldol condensation of benzil with ketones

Under microwave irradiation,the corresponding hydroxycyciopentenones were prepared in high yields by the cross-aldol reactions of benzil with various ketones.When the reactions were performed in vailOUS solvents under classical heating for a long time,they produced the products in relatively low yields.     

Adsorption of nitrous oxide on the(6,0) magnesium oxide nanotube

Nitrous oxide adsorption on the pristine（6,0） magnesium oxide nanotube was studied by using density functional theory calculations.We present the nature of the N₂O interaction in selected sites of the nanotube.Adsorption energies corresponding to adsorption of the N₂O on the nanotube were calculated to be in the range -11.67 to -22.21 kJ mol^-1.Our results indicate that the N₂O molecule has a weak physical adsorption on the pristine models due to weak Van der Waals interaction between the nanotubes and N₂O molecule.The important results can be useful in production of the N₂O sensors.     

CFD modeling of reaction and mass transfer through a single pellet: Catalytic oxidative coupling of methane

In this study a mathematical model of a small scale single pellet for the oxidative coupling of methane(OCM)over titanite pervoskite is developed.The method is based on a computational fluid dynamics(CFD)code which known as Fluent may be adopted to model the reactions that take place inside the porous catalyst pellet.The steady state single pellet model is coupled with a kinetic model and the intra-pellet concentration profiles of species are provided.Subsequent to achieving this goal,a nonlinear reaction network consisting of nine catalytic reactions and one gas phase reaction as an external program is successfully implemented to CFD-code as a reaction term in solving the equations.This study is based on the experimental design which is conducted in a differential reactor with a Sn/BaTiO3 catalyst(7-8 mesh) at atmospheric pressure,GHSV of 12000 h-1,ratio of methane to oxygen of 2,and three different temperatures of 1023,1048 and 1073 K.The modeling results such as selectivity and conversion at the pellet exit are in good agreement with the experimental data.Therefore,it is suggested that to achieve high yield in OCM process the modeling of the single pellet should be considered as the heart of catalytic fixed bed reactor.     

Synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles via sonochemical method and their characterization

Preparation of iron oxide ( -Fe 2 O 3 ) nanoparticles was carried out via a sonochemical process. The process parameters such as temperature, sonication time and power of ultrasonication play important roles in the size and morphology of the final products. A thermodynamic investigation on the binding of mercury ion with myelin basic protein at different temperatures

A thermodynamic study on the interaction of myelin basic protein with mercury ion was studied by using isothermal titration calonmetry,ITC,at 300.15,310.15 and 320.15 K in Tris buffer solution at pH 7.The enthalpies of MBP + Hg²⁺ interaction are reported and analysed in terms of the extended solvation model.It was found that MBP has two identical and non-cooperative binding sites for Hg²⁺ ions.The intrinsic dissociation equilibrium constants are 99.904,112.968 and 126.724μmol/L,and the molar enthalpy of binding are -11.634,-10.768 and -10.117kJ mol^-1 at 300.15,310.15 and 320.15 K,respectively.
