The development of various redox‐flow batteries for the storage of fluctuating renewable energy has intensified in recent years because of their peculiar ability to be scaled separately in terms of energy and power, and therefore potentially to reduce the costs of energy storage. This has resulted in a considerable increase in the number of publications on redox‐flow batteries. This was a motivation to present a comprehensive and critical overview of the features of this type of batteries, focusing mainly on the chemistry of electrolytes and introducing a thorough systematic classification to reveal their potential for future development.  相似文献

The selective hydrolysis of proteins by non-enzymatic catalysis is difficult to achieve, yet it is crucial for applications in biotechnology and proteomics. Herein, we report that discrete hafnium metal-oxo cluster [Hf18O10(OH)26(SO4)13⋅(H2O)33] ( Hf18 ), which is centred by the same hexamer motif found in many MOFs, acts as a heterogeneous catalyst for the efficient hydrolysis of horse heart myoglobin (HHM) in low buffer concentrations. Among 154 amino acids present in the sequence of HHM, strictly selective cleavage at only 6 solvent accessible aspartate residues was observed. Mechanistic experiments suggest that the hydrolytic activity is likely derived from the actuation of HfIV Lewis acidic sites and the Brønsted acidic surface of Hf18 . X-ray scattering and ESI-MS revealed that Hf18 is completely insoluble in these conditions, confirming the HHM hydrolysis is caused by a heterogeneous reaction of the solid Hf18 cluster, and not from smaller, soluble Hf species that could leach into solution.  相似文献

A detailed study of the role of solution pH and ionic strength on the swelling behavior of capsules composed of the weak polyelectrolytes poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) and poly(methacrylic acid) (PMA) with different numbers of layers was carried out. The polyelectrolyte layers were assembled onto silicon oxide particles and multilayer formation was followed by zeta-potential measurements. Hollow capsules were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The pH-dependent behavior of P4VP/PMA capsules was probed in aqueous media using confocal laser scanning microscopy. All systems exhibited a pronounced swelling at the edges of stability, at pHs of 2 and 8.1. The swelling degree increased when more polymer material was adsorbed. The swollen state can be attributed to uncompensated positive and negative charges within the multilayers, and it is stabilized by counteracting hydrophobic interactions. The swelling was related to the electrostatic interactions by infrared spectroscopy and zeta-potential measurements. The stability of the capsules as well as the swelling degree at a given pH could be tuned, when the ionic strength of the medium was altered.  相似文献

Hydrolysis of (p-nitrophenyl)phosphate (NPP), a commonly used phosphatase model substrate, was examined in molybdate solutions by means of (1)H, (31)P, and (95)Mo NMR spectroscopy and Mo K-edge Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy. At 50 °C and pD 5.1 the cleavage of the phosphoester bond in NPP proceeds with a rate constant of 2.73 × 10(-5) s(-1) representing an acceleration of nearly 3 orders of magnitude as compared to the hydrolysis measured in the absence of molybdate. The pD dependence of k(obs) exhibits a bell-shaped profile, with the fastest cleavage observed in solutions where [Mo(7)O(24)](6-) is the major species in solution. Mixing of NPP and [Mo(7)O(24)](6-) resulted in formation of these two intermediate complexes that were detected by (31)P NMR spectroscopy. Complex A was characterized by a (31)P NMR resonance at -4.27 ppm and complex B was characterized by a (31)P NMR resonance at -7.42 ppm. On the basis of the previous results from diffusion ordered NMR spectroscopy, performed with the hydrolytically inactive substrate phenylphosphonate (PhP), the structure of these two complexes was deduced to be (NPP)(2)Mo(5)O(21)(4-) (complex A) and (NPP)(2)Mo(12)O(36)(H(2)O)(6)(4-) (complex B). The pH studies point out that both complexes are hydrolytically active and lead to the hydrolysis of phosphoester bond in NPP. The NMR spectra did not show evidence of any paramagnetic species, excluding the possibility of Mo(VI) reduction to Mo(V), and indicating that the cleavage of the phosphomonoester bond is purely hydrolytic. The Mo K-edge XANES region also did not show any sign of Mo(VI) to Mo(V) reduction during the hydrolytic reaction. (95)Mo NMR and Mo K-edge EXAFS spectra measured during different stages of the hydrolytic reaction showed a gradual disappearance of [Mo(7)O(24)](6-) during the hydrolytic reaction and appearance of [P(2)Mo(5)O(23)](6-), which was the final complex observed at the end of hydrolytic reaction.  相似文献

Mycotoxins are important non-anthropogenic food and feed contaminants, which can be present on almost every agricultural commodity. Effective consumer protection therefore essentially depends on food surveillance by reliable quantitative analysis enabled by appropriate quality control. Certified (matrix) reference materials (CRMs) are versatile tools to support quality assurance. However, in the case of ochratoxin A (OTA), a hepato- and nephrotoxic mycotoxin, which is regulated in various foods, there is a lack of suitable CRMs. This lack has now been overcome by the development of two European Reference Materials (ERM?) for the determination of OTA in roasted coffee (ERM?-BD475) and red wine (ERM?-BD476). This article discusses the material preparation process as well as the results of homogeneity and stability testing. Furthermore, the results of the in-house certification studies carried out at BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing are presented and discussed. Interlaboratory comparison studies involving selected expert laboratories with documented expertise in the field of mycotoxin analysis were conducted to confirm the certified values determined by BAM. The certified ochratoxin A values and their corresponding expanded uncertainties (k?=?2) were assigned in full compliance with the requirements of ISO Guide 35 and are as follows: (6.0?±?0.6)???g?kg?1 for roasted coffee, ERM?-BD475, and (0.52?±?0.11)???g?L?1 for red wine, ERM?-BD476.  相似文献

A new prototype consisting of ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) nanoparticles decorated with europium(III) ions encapsulated in a DO3A organic scaffold was designed as a platform for further development of bimodal contrast agents for MRI and optical imaging. The USPIO nanoparticles act as negative MRI contrast agents, whereas the europium(III) ion is a luminophore that is suitable for use in optical imaging detection. The functionalized USPIO nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, DLS, XRD, FTIR, and TXRF analysis, and a full investigation of the relaxometric and optical properties was conducted. The typical luminescence emission of europium(III) was observed and the main red emission wavelength was found at 614 nm. The relaxometric study of these ultrasmall nanoparticles showed r2 values of 114.8 mm ?1Fes?1 at 60 MHz, which is nearly double the r2 relaxivity of Sinerem®.  相似文献

Hydrogen peroxide can be catalyzed to bleach cotton fibers at temperatures as low as 30°C by incorporating dinuclear tri-μ-oxo bridged manganese(IV) complex of the ligand 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (MnTACN) as the catalyst in the bleaching solution. The catalytic system was found to be more selective under the conditions applied than the non-catalytic H2O2 system, showing better bleaching performance while causing slightly lower decrease in degree of polymerization (DP) of cellulose. In order to gain fundamental knowledge of the bleach effect on cotton fibers and cellulose as its main component, especially after catalytic bleaching, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) was used to study surface chemical effects. The Washburn method was applied to investigate wetting properties, and liquid porosity was used to obtain pore volume distribution (PVD) plots. Parallel analyzes performed on model cotton fabric, i.e. “clean” cotton fabric stained with morin - a pigment regularly found in native cotton fiber, helped to differentiate between pigment oxidation and other bleaching effects produced on the (regular) industrially scoured cotton fabric. Bleaching was not limited to the chemical action but also affected cotton fiber capillary parameters most likely due to the removal of non-cellulosic materials as well as chain-shortened cellulose.  相似文献

An undecasubstituted chloroiron corrolate, octamethyltriphenylcorrolatoiron chloride, (OMTPCorr)FeCl, has been synthesized and studied by X-ray crystallography and (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy. It is found that, although the structure is slightly saddled, the average methyl out-of-plane distance is only 0.63 Angstroms, while it is much greater for the dodecasubstituted porphyrinate analogue (OMTPP)FeCl (1.19 Angstroms) (Cheng, R.-J.; Chen, P.-Y.; Gau, P.-R.; Chen, C.-C.; Peng, S.-M. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1997, 119, 2563-2569). In addition, the distance of iron from the mean plane of the four macrocycle nitrogens is also smaller for (OMTPCorr)FeCl (0.387 Angstroms) than for (OMTPP)FeCl (0.46 Angstroms). The (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra of (OMTPCorr)FeCl, as well as the chloroiron complexes of triphenylcorrolate, (TPCorr)FeCl; 7,13-dimethyl-2,3,8,12,17,18-hexaethylcorrolate, (DMHECorr)FeCl; 7,8,12,13-tetramethyl-2,3,17,18-tetraethylcorrolate, (TMTECorr)FeCl; and the phenyliron complex of 7,13-dimethyl-2,3,8,12,17,18-hexaethylcorrolate, (DMHECorr)FePh, have been assigned, and the spin densities at the carbons that are part of the aromatic ring of the corrole macrocycle have been divided into the part due to spin delocalization by corrole --> Fe pi donation and the part due to the unpaired electron present on the corrole ring. It is found that although the spin density at the beta-pyrrole positions is fairly similar to that of (TPCorr)FeCl, the meso-phenyl-carbon shift differences delta(m) - delta(p) are opposite in sign of those of (TPCorr)FeCl. This finding suggests that the radical electron is ferromagnetically coupled to the unpaired electrons on iron, rather than antiferromagnetically coupled, as in all of the other chloroiron corrolates. The solution magnetic moment was measured for (OMTPCorr)FeCl and found to be mu(eff) = 4.7 +/- 0.5 micro(B), consistent with S = 2 and ferromagnetic coupling. From this study, two conclusions may be reached about iron corrolates: (1) the spin states of chloroiron corrolates are extremely sensitive to the out-of-plane distance of iron, and (2) pyrrole-H or -C shifts are not useful in delineating the spin state and electron configuration of (anion)iron corrolates.  相似文献
