Tuzla is among the most polluted cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main source of pollution in the area is soil heavily contaminated by mercury released from a former chloralkali plant. This paper is focused on the characterization of mercury contaminated soil and air surrounding the chloralkali plant. In soil, the mobility and transformation of mercury were investigated by sequential extraction, while the methylation and reduction potentials were determined by the use of a radioactive tracer. Mercury emission from soil was determined by laboratory and by flux chamber measurements in the field. In addition, mercury concentrations in air were estimated by the analysis of air and the transplanted lichen Hypogymnia physodes. Mercury in soils in the vicinity of the chloralkali plant exceeded the background value by a factor of more than 3000. The fractionation of mercury in surface soil by sequential extraction showed that the mercury in soil was primarily bound to organic matter and a fraction containing elemental mercury and mercury (I) chloride is also significant. The obtained methylation and reduction potentials are low. The mercury flux from soil was estimated by two approaches. Fluxes of up to 8000?ng/m2/day were measured at the most polluted site; evaporation from soil was shown to be the primary source of elevated mercury in air. Air concentration mapping also revealed other sources of mercury; the most likely is the 715 MW coal power plant in the vicinity of former chloralkali facility.  相似文献

The subject of this experimental investigation is a novel laser droplet formation (LDF) process. During the LDF process, droplets are formed by melting the tip of a wire using a laser pulse. The goal of our research is to develop a non-contact method for characterization of the LDF process. For this purpose we employ the signals of the laser light that is reflected from the tip of the wire. The experiments were performed with nickel and tin-alloy wire. Results show that in-process characterization of various phases of the LDF process, like melting of the wire tip and formation of a molten pendant droplet is possible regardless of the wire material. In addition, a method for post-process detection of droplet detachment has been developed. Using the statistically defined threshold value, 99.2% and 97.8% detection reliability of droplet detachment was achieved in the case of nickel and tin-alloy wire, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper we construct a Stein neighborhood basis for any compact subvariety A with strongly pseudoconvex boundary bA and Stein interior A \ bA in a complex space X. This is an extension of a well known theorem of Siu. When A is a complex curve, our result coincides with the result proved by Drinovec-Drnovšek and Forstnerič. We shall adapt their proof to the higher dimensional case, using also some ideas of Demailly’s proof of Siu’s theorem. For embedded strongly pseudoconvex domain in a complex manifold we also find a basis of tubular Stein neighborhoods. These results are applied to the approximation problem for holomorphic mappings. The set of bistochastic or doubly stochastic N×N matrices is a convex set called Birkhoff’s polytope, which we describe in some detail. Our problem is to characterize the set of unistochastic matrices as a subset of Birkhoff’s polytope. For N=3 we present fairly complete results. For N=4 partial results are obtained. An interesting difference between the two cases is that there is a ball of unistochastic matrices around the van der Waerden matrix for N=3, while this is not the case for N=4.  相似文献

The paper presents a comparative study of electropermeabilization of cells in suspension by unipolar and symmetrical bipolar rectangular electric pulses. While the parameters of electropermeabilization by unipolar pulses have been investigated extensively both in cell suspensions and in tissues, studies using bipolar pulses have been rare, partly due to the lack of commercially available bipolar pulse generators with pulse parameters suitable for electropermeabilization. We have developed a high-frequency amplifier and coupled it to a function generator to deliver high-voltage pulses of programmable shapes. With symmetrical bipolar pulses, the pulse amplitude required for the permeabilization of 50% of the cells was found to be approximately 20% lower than with unipolar pulses, while no statistically significant difference was detected between the pulse amplitudes causing the death of 50% of the cells. Bipolar pulses also led to more than 20% increase in the uptake of lucifer yellow. We show that these results have a theoretical background, because bipolar pulses (i) counterbalance the asymmetry of the permeabilized areas at the poles of the cell which is introduced by the resting transmembrane voltage, and (ii) increase the odds of permeabilization of cells having a nonspherical shape or a nonhomogeneous membrane. If similar results are also obtained in tissues, bipolar pulse generators could in due course gain a wide, or even a predominant use in cell membrane electropermeabilization.  相似文献

Intestinal transepithelial transport of glucose is mediated by glucose transporters, and affects postprandial blood-glucose levels. This study investigates the effect of wood extracts rich in hydrolyzable tannins (HTs) that originated from sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) and oak (Quercus petraea) on the expression of glucose transporter genes and the uptake of glucose and HT constituents in a 3D porcine-small-intestine epithelial-cell model. The viability of epithelial cells CLAB and PSI exposed to different HTs was determined using alamarBlue®. qPCR was used to analyze the gene expression of SGLT1, GLUT2, GLUT4, and POLR2A. Glucose uptake was confirmed by assay, and LC–MS/ MS was used for the analysis of HT bioavailability. HTs at 37 µg/mL were found to adversely affect cell viability and downregulate POLR2A expression. HT from wood extract Tanex at concentrations of 4 µg/mL upregulated the expression of GLUT2, as well as glucose uptake at 1 µg/mL. The time-dependent passage of gallic acid through enterocytes was influenced by all wood extracts compared to gallic acid itself as a control. These results suggest that HTs could modulate glucose uptake and gallic acid passage in the 3D cell model.  相似文献

The results show that π(x)x) for 2≤x≤1014, and also seem to support several conjectures on the maximal and average errors of the three approximations, most importantly \({\left| {\pi {\left( x \right)} - {\text{li}}{\left( x \right)}} \right|} < x^{{1 \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {1 2}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} 2}}\) and \( - \frac{2}{5}x^{{3 \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {3 2}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} 2}} < {\int_2^x {{\left( {\pi {\left( u \right)} - {\text{li}}{\left( u \right)}} \right)}du < 0} }\) for all x>2.
