Recombination probabilities for oxygen atoms on a polyethylene terephthalate surface

By measuring the intensity of oxygen-plasma emission at λ=777 nm, the authors estimate the relative probabilities of heterogeneous oxygen-atom recombination (G₀/G_gl) on the surface of a polyethylene terephthalate polymer film. Finite-dimensional subspaces of <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Subscript>p</Subscript> with Lipschitz metric projection

We prove that the metric projection onto a finite-dimensional subspace Y ? L _p, p ∈ (1, 2) ∪ (2, ∞), satisfies the Lipschitz condition if and only if every function in Y is supported on finitely many atoms. We estimate the Lipschitz constant of such a projection for the case in which the subspace is one-dimensional.     

Microstructural study of He<Superscript>+</Superscript>-implanted and thermally annealed silicon-on-sapphire layers

The effect of He⁺ ion implantation and subsequent annealing on the silicon-on-sapphire microstructure is studied by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. It is established that He⁺ ion implantation leads to the formation of defects in the Si layer and α-Al₂O₃, while subsequent annealing causes dissociation of radiation defects in Si and formation of nanopores in α-Al₂O₃. The effect of implanted-ion dose and annealing temperature on the parameters of the porous α-Al₂O₃ layer and structural quality of the Si layer is investigated.     

M?ssbauer spectroscopic studies of passivated layers of iron-containing catalysts for ammonia synthesis

Combined conversion electron (CEMS) and transmission -ray (MS) Mössbauer spectroscopy was used to study the structure of passivated layers of promoted and unpromoted iron-containing catalysts. In both catalysts the oxide-coated films were found to consist of small paramagnetic (at 300 K) clusters of ferric oxide.

The mapping taking three points of a Banach space to their Steiner point

A mapping St taking any three points a, b, c of a Banach space X into a set St(a,b,c) of their Steiner points and the corresponding operator P_D of metric projection of a space X × X × X onto its diagonal subspace D = {(x,x,x): x ∈ X}, P_D(a,b,c) = {(s,s,s): s ∈ St(a,b,c)}, are considered. The linearity coefficient of an arbitrary selection from P_D is estimated depending on properties of the space X. Estimates for the Lipschitz constant of an arbitrary selection from the mapping St are obtained as a corollary.     

The Inclusion of Timolol and Lisinopril in Calcium Phosphate Particles Covered by Chitosan: Application in Ophthalmology

Chitosan-covered calcium phosphate nanoparticles with the mean dynamic radii of 30 to 130 nm and ζ-potential of +22 ± 4 mV containing timolol and lisinopril are prepared and characterized. These particles are formed by the amorphous phase represented by amorphous calcium phosphate Ca _x (PO₄) _y · zH₂O and the crystalline phase represented by hydrated calcium hydrophoshate (brushite) CaHPO₄ · 2H₂O. The experiments in vivo demonstrated that the inclusion of timolol into calcium phosphate particles covered with chitosan substantially prolonged its effect on the intraocular pressure.     

The linearity coefficient of metric projections onto one-dimensional Chebyshev subspaces of the space C

The paper deals with the operator of metric projection onto an arbitrary one-dimensional Chebyshev subspace 〈φ〉 of the space C[K] of real-valued functions defined and continuous on a Hausdorff compact set K. The linearity coefficient of the operator is calculated in terms of the parameters of the generating function φ. As a consequence, a new estimate of the Lipschitz constant of the operator is obtained.
