Exposure of aqueous glassy solutions of t-butyl alcohol to 60Co γ-rays at 77°K gave ESR spectra characteristic of Me3Ċ, and H2ĊC(Me)2OH radicals. The results for the former were unusual in that, for very dilute aqueous solutions and for solutions of 0.4 mole fraction through to the pure alcohol, all the Me3Ċ radicals were apparently freely rotating, whilst for solutions in the mole fraction region 0.05 to 0.4, some or all of these radicals were stationary. The magnetic moment of short lived β-emitter 24mAl (426 keV, I π ?=?1?+?, T 1/2?=?131 ms) has been measured by means of β-NMR technique, for the first time. From the β-NMR spectrum, the magnetic moment was determined as $\left| {\upmu}\left( ^{\rm 24m}{\rm Al} \right) \right|=\left( {2.99\pm 0.09} \right){\upmu}_{\rm N}$ . Combined with the known magnetic moment of the mirror partner 24mNa, the expectation value of <?S z?> is obtained to be (0.08 ± 0.12). Many-particle rapidity correlations have been studied for αα,dd, andpp interactions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings using the Split-Field Magnet detector, and basing the investigating on the distributions of rapidity gaps between particles. We have studied the temperature dependence of the magnetoresistance of semimetallic InAs/GaSb structures with magnetic field applied parallel to the layers. We present the first unambiguous evidence for the presence of a mini-gap at the crossing point between the electron and hole dispersion relations. The resistivity is found to change from semiconductor-like behaviour with a strong temperature dependence at low parallel magnetic fields to that of a semimetal with a weak temperature dependence at high field. Furthermore, the magnetoresistance, for intrinsic samples, is found to decrease with field by as much as 70% at low temperatures. As the parallel magnetic field is increased the centres of the electron and hole dispersions are shifted apart in k-space and at sufficiently high field the mini-gap is destroyed and the bands overlap fully. Finally, a theoretical model allows us to estimate that the mini-gap is of order 7 meV. 相似文献

ESR spectroscopy is a powerful tool for detecting radicals or radical-ions trapped in solids, and in many cases “primary” electron-gain and-loss centres can be identified and their structures elucidated. Sometimes these primary centres are trapped in pairs, separated byca. 5 to 15 Å giving triplet state ESR spectra. The significance of pair-trapping in relation to current theories for the action of ionizing radiation will be discussed with reference to several recent examples. Generally, the primary centres are well separated and ESR does not give useful information about spurs or local regions of high radical densities. Reasons for trapping will be summarized with specific reference to DNA and proteins. The question of electron-return will be discussed, and several examples of this will be reported. 相似文献

Spectrophotometric evidence for the formation of contact ion-pairs in solutions of tetra-alkylammonium iodides in certain solvents of poor ion-solvating power, such as carbon tetrachloride, is presented. Since the band ascribed to contact ion-pairs is not detected for solutions in other solvents, such as chloroform, it is concluded that the ion-pairs detectable by other techniques in such solvents are separated by solvent molecules. 相似文献
