Connection between joint distribution and compatibility

In the paper theorems on the connection between the joint distribution and the pairwise compatibility of relativized observables are proved. Three basic categories of compatibility of observables on a quantum logic are defined: (i) compatibility, (ii) partial compatibility, (iii) total incompatibility.     

Alkoholyse aromatischer Carbonsäureester

The alcoholysis of various esters of aromatic carboxylic esters with octadecanol in the presence of lead stearate was investigated by chromatographic analysis of the reaction mixtures. The reactivity of the esters was found to be strongly affected by the substitution pattern of the aromatic nucleus as well as by the structure of the alkoxy group. Electron donating substituents in a suitable position lead to a remarkable increase in reactivity compared to the unsubstituted alkyl esters.

Type-Decomposition of an Effect Algebra

Effect algebras (EAs), play a significant role in quantum logic, are featured in the theory of partially ordered Abelian groups, and generalize orthoalgebras, MV-algebras, orthomodular posets, orthomodular lattices, modular ortholattices, and boolean algebras. We study centrally orthocomplete effect algebras (COEAs), i.e., EAs satisfying the condition that every family of elements that is dominated by an orthogonal family of central elements has a supremum. For COEAs, we introduce a general notion of decomposition into types; prove that a COEA factors uniquely as a direct sum of types I, II, and III; and obtain a generalization for COEAs of Ramsay’s fourfold decomposition of a complete orthomodular lattice.     

The VIP Experimental Limit on the Pauli Exclusion Principle Violation by Electrons

In this paper we describe an experimental test of the validity of the Pauli Exclusion Principle (for electrons) which is based on a straightforward idea put forward a few years ago by Ramberg and Snow (Phys. Lett. B 238:438, 1990). We perform a very accurate search of X-rays from the Pauli-forbidden atomic transitions of electrons in the already filled 1S shells of copper atoms. Although the experiment has a very simple structure, it poses deep conceptual and interpretational problems. Here we describe the experimental method and recent experimental results, which we interpret in the framework of quon theory. We also present future plans to upgrade the experimental apparatus using Silicon Drift Detectors.     

Properties of Quasi-Hermitian Operators Inherited from Self-Adjoint Operators

We study a generalized effect algebra of unbounded linear operators in an infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space. This algebra equipped with a certain kind of topology allows us to show that unbounded quasi-Hermitian operators can be expressed as a difference of two infinite sums of bounded quasi-Hermitian operators.
