This report summarises the activities of the working group on ‘Physics beyond the Standard Model’. The results of investigations in incorporatingR-parity in grand unification, the possibility of a light charged Higgs boson in extension of MSSM and radiative generation of neutral vector boson self-couplings within the MSSM are described. Also given is an account of activities in neutrino physics, namely a proposal for a study of the atmospheric muon anomaly in deep underground mines, a field theoretic study of neutrino oscillations and a mechanism to generate appropriate masses of three active plus one sterile neutrino species.  相似文献

We present a novel mechanism of pattern formation behind a flat interface during directional solidification of peritectic alloys. It is shown through computational modeling that irregular oscillatory thermosolutal convection can develop in the vertical Bridgman system, even with bottom seeding and bottom cooling. The coupling of the flow oscillation near the interface with solidification leads to ordered layered structures in the solidified crystal, which agree closely with earlier experimental results.  相似文献

We give quantitative estimates for associated charm production in neutrino and antineutrino induced neutral current interactions, based on (a) quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and (b) the quark parton model (QPM) and a phenomenological generalization thereof. We emphasize the need for a precise measurement of the ratio σ(vμN→vμe+X)/σ(vμN→μ?X) and the corresponding ratio for antineutrinos, as these can provide clean tests of certain characteristic features of QCD. Bounds are obtained for single charm production by charm-changing neutral currents.  相似文献

A 980-nm pump-induced nonlinear refractive-index (n2) change in erbium-doped (20-m) and ytterbium-doped (20-m) fibers has been measured at 1064 nm by time-delayed photorefractive beam coupling in a co-propagating and counterpropagating geometry. It was found that n2 decreases at the wavelength of the probe beam when the pump beam is present. We present a semiclassical theory based on a four-state system that accounts for the pump-induced change of n2. Both theoretical and experimental results show that a significant index change, of the order of 10%, can be obtained for cw pump powers as small as 10 mW.  相似文献

Dynamic spontaneous imbibition (DSI) plays an important role in oil reservoir characterization. Conventional equations used to characterize DSI consider neither interfacial coupling effects (ICE) nor variable inlet saturation (S*) for DSI. Yazzan et?al. (Transp Porous Media 87(1):309?C333, 2011a; 86(3):705?C717, 2011b) developed a set of equations, and a numerical solution scheme, to take into account ICE and variable S* for DSI. Based on these, a graphical user interface (GUI) simulator was built. A sensitivity analysis has been conducted to study the effect of the fluid and rock properties on DSI. The results reveal that including a variable S* has no significant impact; however, neglecting ICE results in an overestimation of the imbibition flow rate. Moreover, it is shown that the capillary and relative permeability curves determine the type of frontal advance, and that the imbibition recovery is proportional to the square root of time.  相似文献

The odd mass nucleus 137Pm has been studied to high spins through the 109Ag(32S, 2p2n)137Pm reaction at an incident beam energy of 150 MeV. The de-exciting ??-rays were detected using an array of 18 Compton suppressed clover detectors. The level scheme of 137Pm has been extended up to $J^\pi = \tfrac{{43}} {2}^ -$ and excitation energy of E x ? 6 MeV with the observation of 42 new gamma transitions. The linear polarization (IPDCO) measurements for the ??-ray transitions have been done for the first time. The spin and parity assignments for most of the reported levels have been made using these results and the coincidence angular anisotropy (RDCO) measurements. The nuclear shape evolution is discussed in the light of Total Routhian Surface (TRS) and Cranked Shell Model (CSM) calculations.  相似文献

A new multi‐component chemosensor system comprising a naphthalimide moiety as fluorophore is designed and developed to investigate receptor–analyte binding interactions in the presence of metal and non‐metal ions. A dimethylamino moiety is utilized as receptor for metal ions and a thiourea receptor, having acidic protons, for binding anions. The system is characterized by conventional analytical methods. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of the system consist of a broad band typical for an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). The effects of various metal‐ion additives on the spectral behavior of the present sensor system are examined in acetonitrile. It is found that among the metal ions studied, alkali/alkaline earth‐metal ions and transition‐metal ions modulate the absorption and fluorescence spectra of the system. As an additional feature, the anion signaling behavior of the system in acetonitrile is studied. A decrease in fluorescence efficiency of the system is observed upon addition of fluoride and acetate anions. Fluorescence quenching is most effective in the case of fluoride ions. This is attributed to the enhancement of the photoinduced electron transfer from the anion receptor to the fluorophore moiety. Hydrogen‐bond interactions between the acidic NH protons of the thiourea moiety and the F? anions are primarily attributed to the fluoride‐selective signaling behavior. Interestingly, a negative cooperativity for the binding event is observed when the interactions of the system are studied in the presence of both Zn2+ and F? ions. NMR spectroscopy and theoretical calculations are also carried out to better understand the receptor–analyte binding.  相似文献

Correlation between the dynamic viscosity (η) and the microviscosity of a hybrid green medium constituted of water and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) of average molar mass (200, 400, and 600) g · mol?1, respectively, is explored over the temperatures range (10 to 90) °C across the complete composition regime. The microviscosity is obtained using a fluorescence probe 1,3-bis-(1-pyrenyl)propane (BPP), which is manifested through the ratio of the monomer-to-intramolecular excimer intensities (IM/IE). Aqueous PEG mixtures are observed to behave similar to Newtonian fluids as the temperature dependence of dynamic viscosity follows Arrhenius-type behavior. Surprisingly, a simple and convenient linear dependence of ln η with wt% PEG of the mixture is established. The BPP IM/IE is observed, in general, to increase with the bulk dynamic viscosity of the mixture having >10 wt% PEG suggesting a good correlation between the bulk dynamic viscosity and BPP-reported microviscosity when the viscosity of the aqueous PEG mixture is relatively high.  相似文献
