Photograft Copolymerization of Methyl Methacrylate on Wool Using Ce4+ -Oxalic Acid Redox Initiator in a Limited Aqueous System

Abstract

Photograft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate on reduced wool (reduction done by treatment with thioglycollic acid, TGA) was studied at nearly 30°C using a Ce⁴⁺ -oxalic acid redox initiator system in a limited aqueous system (2.7 mL water for 0.15 g wool). Reduction of wool for 16 h with 15% TGA solution produced optimum grafting effects. Percent grafting and grafting efficiency under different sets of conditions were studied and compared, and the mechanism of grafting discussed. Generation of grafting sites (radical centers) on reduced wool was more effective in the presence of light than in the dark. Percent grafting of 250–350% and grafting efficiency of 65-80% over a conversion range of 60–90% in 3–5 h were easily obtained.     

Overtone spectroscopy of water molecules based on room temperature diode laser emitting in the NIR range

The measurement of very weak overtone spectroscopic line shape of water molecule is performed using wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS). In this work a high resolution near infrared diode laser spectrometer is used to record first derivative (1f) signal of buffer gas Helium and Carbon dioxide broadened water vapour transitions around 820 nm wavelength region. The effect of collision due to perturber pressure on signal to noise ratio (SNR) is discussed. The Lorentzian HWHM of observed 1f signal is calculated. The comparison is made between collisional broadening of water vapour transition broadened by inert gas Helium and high quadrupole moment active gas Carbon dioxide.     

Analytic structure of ρ meson propagator at finite temperature

We analyse the structure of one-loop self-energy graphs for the ρ meson in real time formulation of finite temperature field theory. We find the discontinuities of these graphs across the unitary and the Landau cuts. These contributions are identified with different sources of medium modification discussed in the literature. We also calculate numerically the imaginary and the real parts of the self-energies and construct the spectral function of the ρ meson, which are compared with an earlier determination. A significant contribution arises from the unitary cut of the π ω loop, that was ignored so far in the literature.

Early detection of viral DNA in breast cancer using fingered aluminium interdigitated electrode modified by Streptavidin-biotin tetravalent complex

Human Mammary Tumor Virus (HMTV) or Mouse Mammary Tumor Virus holds similarity as an endogenous onco-retrovirus belongs to retroviridae family, predominantly infects the epithelial cell of human as well as mouse. With the recognition of nano-biosensor in nanotechnology, ideal interdigitated electrode (IDE) was genuinely performed for HMTV detection. Aluminium enriched IDE (AlIDE) was fabricated for high performance detection with a cost-effective photolithography technique. In this research, (3-glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane refined platform was selected to detect the conductivity with HMTV target DNA interaction on the designed AlIDE. Strong binding affinity of streptavidin-biotin with target DNA enhanced the sensitivity by empowering higher number of HMTV probe and target complementation on sensing surface. Furthermore, the target DNA was immobilized on probe modified AlIDE and a quantitative value of 100 aM attained as a lowest detection. A linear with dose-dependent duplex formation was shown with the regression coefficient value of 0.964. Negative control has shown insignificant detection at 10 pM, which justifies the higher fold discrimination with specificity. The excellence of AlIDE performance in detection of HMTV may pave the way for more verification on other diseases.     

Coordination and Hydroboration of Ru(II)-Borate Complexes: Dihydridoborate vs. Bis(dihydridoborate)

Treatment of [Cp*RuCl₂]₂, 1 , [(COD)IrCl]₂, 2 or [(p-cymene)RuCl₂]_2, 3 (Cp*=η⁵-C₅Me_5, COD= 1,5-cyclooctadiene and p-cymene=η⁶-ⁱPrC₆H₄Me) with heterocyclic borate ligands [Na[(H₃B)L], L₁ and L₂ ( L₁ : L=amt, L₂ : L=mp; amt=2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, mp=2-mercaptopyridine) led to the formation of borate complexes having uncommon coordination. For example, complexes 1 and 2 on reaction with L₁ and L₂ afforded dihydridoborate species [L^AM(μ-H)₂BHL] 4 – 6 ( 4 : L^A=Cp*, M=Ru, L=amt; 5 : L^A=Cp*, M=Ru, L=mp; 6 : L^A=COD, M=Ir, L=mp). On the other hand, treatment of 3 with L₂ yielded cis- and trans-bis(dihydridoborate) species, [Ru{(μ-H)₂BH(mp)}₂], cis- 7 and trans- 7 . The isolation and structural characterization of fac- and mer-[Ru{(μ-H)₂BH(mp)}{(μ-H)BH(mp)₂}], 8 from the same reaction offered an insight into the behaviour of these dihydridoborate species in solution. Fascinatingly, despite having reduced natural charges on Ru centres both at cis-and trans- 7 , they underwent hydroboration reaction with alkynes that yielded both Markovnikov and anti-Markovnikov addition products, 10 a – d .
