Collective properties of206,208Pb have been investigated with gamma-ray spectroscopy using nuclear and electromagnetic excitation by208Pb projectiles. From the measurement of particle-particle- and particle-particle- coincidences a new energy level in208Pb at 5.683 MeV was observed and the data suggest an interpretation as a 2-phonon octupole vibrational state with spin 4+ or 6+. For this state one finds the same dynamical deformation parameter
3 as for the first-excited collective 3– state. The results are compared to predictions of models which consider, in particular, the aspects of the quadrupole interaction and the interaction of the 2-particle pairing vibration with the 2-phonon octupole vibration. The reactions of Ru3(CO)12with 4-phenylbut-3-an-2-ine (1a), 3-phenyl-1-p-tolylprop-2-an-1-ine (1b), and 1,3-diferrocenylprop-2-an-1-ine (1c) afforded the Ru2(CO)6(-H)(O=C(R1)C(H)=C(R2)) (2) and Ru3(CO)8(O=C(R1)C(H)=C(R2))2(3) complexes. Dissolution of these complexes in CHCl3or CH2Cl2gave rise to the Ru2(CO)4(-Cl)2(O=C(R1)C(H)=C(R2)) complexes (4). The thermal transformations of complexes 2and 3in the presence of an excess of the ligand yielded the Ru2O2(CO)4(3-OC(R1)C(H)(CH2R2)C(R2)C(H)C(R1))2(5) and Ru(CO)2(O=C(R1)C(H)=C(R2))2(6) complexes. Analogous complexes were obtained upon more prolonged heating of the starting reaction mixtures. This study is aimed at investigating the microbiocidal potential of amino‐functionalized poly(norbornenes) in the solid state. A series of norbornene‐type monomers that carry secondary or tertiary amine functions as well as hexyl and dodecyl groups were prepared. Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization was used to prepare homopolymers of the amine bearing monomers and random copolymers of amine‐ and alkyl‐substituted monomers of high average molar mass. The resulting polymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements, and their contact biocidal potential was evaluated according to the Japanese Industry standard Z2801. Tested microorganisms comprised Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus niger. Microbiocidal activity of selected polymer films against E. coli, S. aureus, and A. niger was found, whereas against C. albicans and P. aeruginosa microbiostatic behavior was observed. Moreover, the most potent copolymer revealed no cytotoxicity rendering a biocidal polymer with potential applications in mammalian‐, and in particular, human‐related fields. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present a novel scanning fluorescence microscopy technique, nonconfocal theta microscopy (NCTM), that provides almost isotropic resolution. In NCTM, multiphoton absorption from two orthogonal illumination directions is used to induce fluorescence emission. Therefore the point-spread function of the microscope is described by the product of illumination point-spread functions with reduced spatial overlap, which provides the resolution improvement and the more isotropic observation volume.
