A classification theorem for Albert algebras

Let be a field whose characteristic is different from 2 and 3 and let be a quadratic extension. In this paper we prove that for a fixed, degree 3 central simple algebra over with an involution of the second kind over , the Jordan algebra , obtained through Tits' second construction is determined up to isomorphism by the class of in , thus settling a question raised by Petersson and Racine. As a consequence, we derive a ``Skolem Noether' type theorem for Albert algebras. We also show that the cohomological invariants determine the isomorphism class of , if is fixed.

     

A new three-component domino synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines

Cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN) catalyzed the three-component domino reaction between aromatic amines, α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, and ethyl acetoacetate, providing an efficient new entry into 1,4-dihydropyridines. This new reaction requires very mild reaction conditions, has water as the only side product and is complementary to the classical Hantzsch synthesis in that it is well suited to the preparation of N-aryl-5,6-unsubstituted dihydropyridines. Experiments in the presence of a radical trap suggest that a one-electron oxidative mechanism can be excluded and that CAN acts as a Lewis acid.     

Dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12–silicone resin composites

CaCu₃Ti₄O₁₂ (CCTO)–silicone resin composites with various CCTO volume fractions were prepared. Relatively high dielectric constant (ε=119) and low loss (tanδ=0.35) of the composites with CCTO volume fraction of 0.9 were observed. Two theoretical models were employed to predict the dielectric constant of these composites; the dielectric constant obtained via the Maxwell–Garnett model was in close agreement with the experimental data. The dielectric constant of CCTO–silicone resin composites showed a weak frequency dependence at the measuring frequency range and the loss tangent apparently decreases with increase in frequency.     

An alternative total synthesis of diplodialide-B

In this paper, an enantioselective synthesis of diplodialide-B has been described. To accomplish this target, a combination of regioselective ring opening of the chiral epoxide, Jacobsen hydrolytic kinetic resolution and Yamaguchi macrolactonization were used as the key steps.     

Observation of persistent photoconductivity in flower shaped PbS dendrite structures

We report the observation of persistent photoconductivity (PPC) in flower shaped PbS dendrites grown by the hydrothermal method. Potential fluctuations, due to the presence of various confinement regimes in the branches of dendrites, and surface traps, are likely responsible for the PPC observed here. We also observed photocurrent quenching and decreased dark current in the PPC below 40 K, due to the presence of a metastable state, whereas positive PPC was observed in the temperature region 40–220 K. Dark conductivity measurements, time constant parameters obtained from the stretched exponential fittings of PPC, also showed the metastable state related transition around 50 K.     

Two-phase MFD flows in orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system

Steady flow of an inviscid, incompressible two-phase magnetofluid with infinite electrical conductivity is treated. With one ignorable coordinate in a general orthogonal curvilinear system, general solutions of the equations, considering number densityN constant throughout the motion, are obtained.     

Synthesis of carbo- and heterocycles via a palladium-catalysed allene insertion-nucleophile incorporation-Michael addition cascade

A novel palladium catalysed three-component cascade process is described involving allenylation of an aryl iodide to generate a (π-allyl)palladium species which is intercepted by a carbon or nitrogen nucleophile followed by intramolecular Michael addition to afford carbo- and heterocycles in good yield.
