An open chain product in the reaction of benzil with thiocarbohydrazide

An open chain compound was obtained by reaction of benzil with thiocarbohy-drazide in acidic condition. Its derivative, namely, benzil bis-(5-isopropylidene-3-thiocarbohydrazone) has been structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction method. Crystallographic data: C22H26N8S2, Mr=466.62, monoclinic, space group C2/c, a=12.215(3), b=11.473(2), c=17.032 (3)A, B=98.96(2)0, V=2357.7(9)A3, Z=4, Dc=1.32 g/cm3, F(000)=1040, u(Mo Ka)=2.43 cm-1. Final R=0.050, Rw=0.061 for 1103 unique and observed reflections with I> 3o(I). The effect of the structures on the formation of the open-chain intermediates during the cyclization of (2:2) Schiff base macrocyclic compound has been discussed and a possible mechanism for the ring closure has been suggested.

A New Saponin Transformed from Ginsenoside Rh1 by Bacillus subtilis

A novel saponin was isolated from the transformed products of ginsenoside Rh1 by Bacillus subtilis. It‘s structure was determined to be 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-6-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-20 (S)-protopanaxatriol on the basis of the spectral data.     

Determination of Dopamine in the Presence of Ascorbic Acid on the IrO2-Ta2O5 Type DSA Electrode

IrO2Ta2O5 (70%: 30%, molar ratio) electrodes (ITEs) were prepared by the thermal decomposition method. Typical “mud-cracked” surface and surface enrichment of Ta were observed. The determination of dopamine (DA) was carried out in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA). The detection limit of DA was 5~10 5 mol/L without the interference of AA.     

New Type High Efficient Quasi-Solid-State Ionic Liquid Electrolyte for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

For the fist time the preparation of a mostly solid-state high efficiem electro-conductive material comprising 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide （MPII）, benzimidazole （BI）, iodine and lithium iodide was reported. In this electrolyte, BI acts as not only additives but also gelators. With its significant electrochemical properties, an overall efficiency of 3.07% was achieved under AM 1.5 （100 mW/cm^2）.     

The Saunders-Bell Analysis of Tunnel Effects in Reactions with Kinetic Isotope Effects

The primary kinetic isotope effects of deuterium were investigated in 22 hydrogen and deuterium transfer reactions, including enzymatic and nonenzymatic hydride transfer reactions, elimination reactions, and reactions catalyzed by enzymes lipooxygenase, amine dehydrogenase, and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase. In each case, the Saunders-Bell analysis was applied to calculate the tunnel effects and the corresponding thermodynamic parameters. The Saunders-Bell analysis was effective in 14 cases out of 22. A high degree of correlation was found between the barrier factor, the tunnel factor, and the entropy factor among all reactions studied. From this, a general relationship between the three factors was derived, based on the Saunders-Bell analysis of the Bell equation; the Saunders-Bell analysis is valid within certain limits of the barrier factor. This general relationship is universally valid for all hydrogen/deuterium transfer reactions in nature with moderate tunneling, when the Saunders-Bell analysis applies.
