We carry out a systematic study of various ground state and response properties of homonuclear diatomic molecules (from hydrogen to rubidium, including transition metals) as a function of atomic number of constituent atoms. We perform the ground state and response property calculations by using state of the art density functional theory/time dependent density functional theory. We observe that several properties of homonuclear diatomic molecules show periodic variations along rows and columns of the periodic table. The periodic variations in the ground state properties of diatomic molecules may be explained by the nature and type of the bond that exists between the constituent atoms. Similarly, the periodic variations in the response properties such as static dipole polarizability and strength of the van der Waals interaction between diatomic molecules have been correlated with the variations in metallic/nonmetallic character of the elements along the periodic table. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The formation of nano-quasicrystals on isothermal annealing of melt-spun ribbons of Zr69.5Al7.5Ni11Cu12 metallic glass has been investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The crystallization study of this metallic glass has been carried out using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in non-isothermal (linear heating) mode. It exhibits two-stage crystallization where the first stage corresponds to the precipitation of icosohedral nano-quasicrystalline phase. This has been confirmed with the help of TEM investigations. The crystallization parameters like the activation energy (E c) and frequency factor (k 0) have been derived using the Kissinger peak shift analysis. The activation energies for the first and second crystallization peak are found to be 278 and 295 kJ mol–1, respectively. The frequency factors obtained for the two peaks are respectively 7.16·1019 and 1.42·1020 s–1. E c, k 0 and the Avrami exponent (n) have also been derived by fitting the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) equation for the transformed volume fraction (x) to the crystallization data. JMAK results of E c for the first and second crystallization peak turn out to be 270 and 290 kJ mol–1 respectively. However, k 0 and n are found to be heating rate dependent as reported in similar studies. The values of n for the first crystallization stage ranges between 1.66 and 2.57 indicating diffusion-controlled transformation in agreement with earlier reports.  相似文献

The early lanthanide benzenefluorothiolates (Ln(SC(6)F(5))(3); Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd) react with Hg(SC(6)F(5))(2) in DME to form ionic heterometallic compounds with Ln cations and Hg anions. X-ray diffraction analyses of all compounds reveal an isostructural series with the general formula [(DME)(3)Ln(SC(6)F(5))(2)](2)[Hg(2)(SC(6)F(5))(6)]. In the structures, a fluorothiolate ligand has been extracted from the Ln coordination sphere that is saturated with three neutral DME donor ligands and a dative interaction between one ortho fluorine and the Ln. Distances between Ln and F do not vary simply with Ln ionic radius. There are two Ln cations with charge balanced by a Hg(2)(SC(6)F(5))(6) dianion composed of two distinctly nonideal Hg(II) tetrahedra, all connected through a series of pi-pi interactions that link cations with anions in a one-dimensional array and anions to anions in a more complex 2D network.  相似文献

Liquid-liquid extraction of zirconium(IV) was investigated from dilute hydrochloric acid medium by salicyaldoxime (HA) in dichloromethane. The metal was spiked with 95Zr and analyzed by its radioactivity. The effects of different donors, like trioctyl phosphine oxide (TOPO), triphenyl phosphine oxide (TPPO), tributyl phosphine oxide (TBPO), tributyl phosphate (TBP), trioctyl amine (TOA) and Amberlite LA-2 were studied. A variety of aldehydes undergo a smooth coupling with (4-methylcyclohex-3-en-1-yl)methanol in the presence of 2 mol % of phosphomolybdic acid in dichloromethane to afford 3-oxabicyclo[3.3.1]non-7-ene in good yields through 3,5-oxonium-ene cyclization under mild conditions. The use of inexpensive, nontoxic, and readily available heteropoly acid catalyst makes this method simple, convenient, and environmental-friendly.  相似文献

We consider the cooling of vibrational degrees of freedom in a photoinduced excited electronic state of a model molecular system. For the various parameters of the potential surfaces of the ground and excited electronic states and depending on the excitation frequency of a single-mode laser light, the average energy or average vibrational temperature of the excited state passes through a minimum. The amount of cooling is quantified in terms of the overlap integral between the ground and excited electronic states of the molecule. We have given an approach to calculate the Franck-Condon factor for a multimode displaced-distorted-rotated oscillator surface of the molecular system. This is subsequently used to study the effect of displacement, distortion, and Duschinsky rotation on the vibrational cooling in the excited state. The absorption spectra and also the average energy or the effective temperature of the excited electronic state are studied for the above model molecular system. Considering the non-Condon effect for the symmetry-forbidden transitions, we have discussed the absorption spectra and average temperature in the excited-state vibrational manifold.  相似文献

Solvation characteristics of ketocyanine dyes (I-VI) have been investigated in pure solvents and heterogeneous media by absorption and fluorescence studies. The dyes are good reporters of solvent polarity. In protic solvents they exist as equilibrium mixtures of bare and hydrogen-bonded form in the ground state (S0), the latter being the emitting species. In aprotic solvents of low polarity association of the S1 state of the dye takes place. In aqueous micellar media the dye resides at the micelle water interface. The binding constant for dye-micelle interaction has been determined. Fluorescence data in beta-cyclodextrine solution resemble that for that neutral micellar solution indicating that the interaction between the -OH group of the heterogeneous part (micelle/cyclodextrine cavity) and the carbonyl oxygen of the dye is important in both the cases.  相似文献

Extruded low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films commonly available in the market as 20-micron thick carrier bags were autoclaved, overlaid on nutrient agar plates and inoculated with BP/SU1 strain of Staphylococcus epidermis. The nutrient agar plate showed growth of the organism within two to three days. The polymer film supporting the growth of the organism showed pore formation as recorded by SEM analysis. The growth of BP/SU1 is supported by the presence of shredded LDPE as its only carbon source in inorganic salt minimal nutrient medium. The organism survives even after three months of inoculation and this is accompanied by gradual breakdown of the size of the shredded plastic as seen by light scattering. The cell-free supernatant of the organism, grown with the help of shredded plastic shows the presence of the over expressed proteins with approximate molecular weight of about 55 kDa and 35 kDa, through SDS-PAGE analysis.  相似文献
