Study of the Structure and Sorption Properties of Some Types of Cellulose

The pulsed NMR, isopiestic and pycnometric methods are applied to investigate the physicochemical properties of softwood [GOST (State Standard) 9571-89] and hardwood [GOST 28172-89] celluloses, as well as flax cellulose [GOST 10330-76, 9394-76], both in the initial state and subjected to chemical treatment. Possible changes occurring in the supramolecular structure of a polymer are analyzed. The structural and sorption characteristics of the investigated samples are calculated. Their water absorption capacities are determined.     

Macroscopic properties and self-organization in mixed solutions of surfactants

The directions of the studies of aqueous solutions containing two surfactants or surfactants and various additives performed by the authors and coworkers are discussed, with the focus being on systems in which mixing is accompanied by synergistic effects (a significant decrease in the critical micelle concentration, the growth of aggregates, an increase in the viscosity, changes in the topology of the solubility diagram, etc.). Experimental data and results of modeling with the use of molecular-thermodynamic approaches of various levels are presented.     

Protonation and Alkylation of Cross-conjugated Ketones Containing a Terminal N-Methylpyrrole Ring

The protonation and alkylation of cross-conjugated ketones containing a terminal N-methylpyrrole ring takes place at the oxygen atom. Protonation is accompanied by a strong bathochromic shift of the absorption maximum in the electron spectrum, while alkylation leads to ethoxypolymethine salts. The possibility of using these salts for the synthesis of ethoxycyanine dyes was studied.     

Two- and three-dimensional analysis of bose-einstein correlations inπ +/K+p interactions at 250 GeV/c

The NA22 data onπ ^? π ^? correlations are analyzed in terms of a number of two- and three-dimensional parametrizations (Gaussian space-time, Goldhaber, Bowler string-like, Bertsch hydrodynamical, Kopylov-Podgoretskii, etc.). Contrary to the results obtained for e⁺e^? andµp collisions, the Goldhaber parametrization, as well as string-like models, fail in describing the hadron-hadron data. Better fits are obtained in the framework of surface-emitting fireball-like models, both when including and excluding hydrodynamical expansion of nuclear matter. Our results indicate that pion radiation occurs at earlier stages of matter evolution than in nuclear collisions.     

True detection limit of rare earth elements in atomic emission analysis with an arc two-jet plasmatron

The “true detection limit” C_L,true was measured by a method proposed by Boumans et al. for 10 prominent lines of La, Ce, Pr, Nd and Sm, the most abundant rare earth elements (REEs) in geological samples. It is demonstrated how spectral interferences can increase of C_L,true. The spectra were excited in an argon arc plasma jet with evaporation powders of five complex natural samples. The data show that there is a significant increase of C_L,true in real samples containing large concentrations of such elements as Ti, Zr, Cr, Nb, Ta and REEs emitting complex spectra. Flavanones ofTanacetum sibiricum

Six flavanones have been isolated for the first time from Siberian tansy, and two of them have proved to be new compounds.     

Cyanoacetylation of 6-aminouracils. Synthesis of 7-aminopyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4,5-triones

6-Aminouracils and N-substituted derivatives are cyanoacetylated to give 5-cyanoacetyl-6-aminouracils. In the presence of bases these are converted to pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4,5-triones in high yields.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 7, pp. 971–975, July, 1990.     

A desorption mass spectrometry study of the interaction of cinnamic acid with a silica surface

The interaction of cinnamic acid with the surface of highly dispersed silica is studied. The mechanisms of adsorption, chemisorption, and thermal transformations of cinnamic acid on the silica surface are proposed. The kinetic parameters of the chemical reactions on the surface of silica are calculated.     

Preparation of alkyl-containing derivatives of chitosan and its oligomers in polymer-analogous reactions

It has been shown that the interaction of chitosan and oligochitosan with unsaturated acrylic esters via the nucleophilic addition mechanism and their condensation with heptadecyl isocyanate yield hydrophobic alkyl-containing derivatives of the above polymers. The method of modification of oligochitosan in reactions via end functional groups is developed.
