Isometric crystallization of stretched poly(e-caprolactone) sheets for medical applications

Low melting temperature thermoplastic sheets based on poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) can be formed directly on the patient and are used as immobilization device (mask) in the radiation therapy. The immobilization mask is allowed to harden in isometric conditions on the body at room temperature. A new method for isometric crystallization kinetics of thermoplastic polymer sheets is developed using a tensile-strength instrument. The isometric crystallization method allows investigating the shrinkage force on time of crystallization of stretched samples of thermoplastic polymer sheets or immobilization medical devices. The dependence of the shrinkage force on time is described by Avrami equation and the kinetics parameters of isometric crystallization are calculated. New catalytic systems based on fluorine-containing titanium(iv) alkoxides for the synthesis of ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene and olefin elastomers

The catalytic activity of the systems based on titanium(iv) alkoxides (Ti(OPrⁱ)₄, Ti(OPrⁱ)₂(OCH(CF₃)₂)₂, and Ti(OCH(CF₃)₂)₄) and mixtures of alkylaluminum chlorides (Et₂AlCl or Et₃Al₂Cl₃) with dibutylmagnesium in ethylene polymerization and ethylene copolymerization with propylene and 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene was studied. Ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene with the molecular weight reaching 4.9 · 10⁶ Da was found to be formed in the homopolymerization reaction, whereas copolymerization gives ter-copolymers containing propylene (up to 35 mol.%) and 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (4.3 mol.%) units.

     

Organic substance as a collector of recoil atoms<Superscript>234</Superscript>Th(<Superscript>234</Superscript>U) in black shales

The content and isotopic composition of uranium extracted under various leaching and extraction conditions from the dyctionemic shale from Estonian deposits are determined by alpha-spectrometry. The interaction of uranium with organic matter (OM) was confirmed by a correlation between the specific radioactivity of uranium and contents of OM in the fractions obtained by electrostatic separation of the ground shale powder. Correlation between the results of two different analytical schemes is shown. The thickness of uranium phase layer deposited on organic matter in two parts of the seam is compared.     

Anomalous momentum dependence of the quasiparticle scattering rate in overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

The question of the anisotropy of the electron scattering in high temperature superconductors is investigated using high resolution angle-resolved photoemission data from Pb-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) with suppressed superstructure. The scattering rate of low energy electrons along two bilayer-split pieces of the Fermi surface is measured (via the quasiparticle peak width), and no increase of scattering towards the antinode (pi,0) region is observed, contradicting the expectation from Q=(pi,pi) scattering. The results put a limit on the effects of Q=(pi,pi) scattering on the electronic structure of this overdoped superconductor with still very high T(c).     

Dipole moments of sterically hindered p-hydroxystyrylpyridines

On the basis of measurements of dipole moments and a comparison of the results obtained with those calculated by a vectorial additive scheme, the structure of a series of sterically hindered p-hydroxystyrylpyridines have been determined.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 11, pp. 1528–1531, November, 1973.     

Investigation of the interatomic interaction and structure in liquid metals by the pseudopotential method

The calculation of the interatomic interaction by the pseudopotential method with different models for the form factors has been considered, and the effect of the kind of screening of the electron gas on the form of the potential has been investigated. The potentials of the pair interaction which were calculated have been used to solve the Bogolyubov-Born-Green and the Percus-Yevick integral equations for the radial distribution function.
