Antibiotic resistance is considered a major health concern globally. It is a fact that the clinical need for new antibiotics was not achieved until now. One of the most commonly prescribed classes of antibiotics is β-Lactam antibiotics. However, most bacteria have developed resistance against β-Lactams by producing enzymes β-Lactamase or penicillinase. The discovery of new β-Lactamase inhibitors as new antibiotics or antibiotic adjuvants is essential to avoid future catastrophic pandemics. In this study, five dihydroisocoumarin: 6-methoxy mellein (1); 5,6-dihydroxymellein (2); 6-hydroxymellein (3); 4-chloro-6-hydroxymellein (4) and 4-chloro-5,6-di-hydroxymellein (5) were isolated from Wadi Lajab sediment-derived fungus Penicillium chrysogenum, located 15 km northwest of Jazan, KSA. The elucidation of the chemical structures of the isolated compounds was performed by analysis of their NMR, MS. Compounds 1–5 were tested for antibacterial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. All of the compounds exhibited selective antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus licheniformis except compound 3. The chloro-dihydroisocoumarin derivative, compound 4, showed potential antimicrobial activities against all of the tested strains with the MIC value between 0.8–5.3 μg/mL followed by compound 5, which exhibited a moderate inhibitory effect. Molecular docking data showed good affinity with the isolated compounds to β-Lactamase enzymes of bacteria; NDM-1, CTX-M, OXA-48. This work provides an effective strategy for compounds to inhibit bacterial growth or overcome bacterial resistance. 相似文献
This paper investigates efficiency measurement in a two-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) setting. Since 1978, DEA literature has witnessed the expansion of the original concept to encompass a wide range of theoretical and applied research areas. One such area is network DEA, and in particular two-stage DEA. In the conventional closed serial system, the only role played by the outputs from Stage 1 is to behave as inputs to Stage 2. The current paper examines a variation of that system. In particular, we consider settings where the set of final outputs comprises not only those that result from Stage 2, but can include, in addition, certain outputs from the previous (first) stage. The difficulty that this situation creates is that such outputs are attempting to play both an input and output role in the same stage. We develop a DEA-based methodology that is designed to handle what we term ‘time-staged outputs’. We then examine an application of this concept where the DMUs are schools of business. 相似文献
Biochemical pathways involving chemical kinetics in medium concentrations (i.e., at mesoscale) of the reacting molecules can be approximated as chemical Langevin equations (CLE) systems. We address the physically consistent non-negative simulation of the CLE sample paths as well as the issue of non-Lipschitz diffusion coefficients when a species approaches depletion and any stiffness due to faster reactions. The non-negative Fully Implicit Stochastic α (FIS α) method in which stopped reaction channels due to depleted reactants are deleted until a reactant concentration rises again, for non-negativity preservation and in which a positive definite Jacobian is maintained to deal with possible stiffness, is proposed and analysed. The method is illustrated with the computation of active Protein Kinase C response in the Protein Kinase C pathway. 相似文献
Summary: An epoxy polymerization process is studied in semi‐batch mode. Caustic has a very critical influence on epoxy polymerization process, which is modeled as a set of highly nonlinear coupled ODE's (ordinary differential equations). Owing to the highly complicated, nonlinear domain of analysis, “Differential Evolution (DE)” and “Genetic Algorithm (GA)” are used as optimization tools to identify the ‐PDI Pareto set and study the best operating strategy with respect to NaOH addition. The moment of various oligomeric components during the semi‐batch polymerization is also presented for a better understanding of the process. This study demonstrates the potential of evolutionary optimization algorithm to identify various operating philosophies of a semi‐batch epoxy reactor for a targeted product quality.

Determination of fluoride in hydrometallurgical zinc-plant processing products and solutions with a fluoride-ion electrode is described. Various types of buffers were tested, to find a suitable common buffer for use in analysis of all types of substances generated at the zinc plant. The method involves decomposition of samples either by fusion with sodium hydroxide or by leaching with perchloric acid to bring fluoride into solution. The fluoride concentration is measured directly with a fluoride-specific electrode. In standard addition tests 100% recovery was obtained when a citric acid/sodium nitrate buffer was used. Validation tests gave satisfactory results. 相似文献
The kinetics of the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) in the presence of rare earth oxides, yttrium oxide (Y2O3) and lanthanum oxide (La2O3) as catalysts have been investigated. The Prout-Tompkins and contracting-cube equations have been found to fit the isothermal thermogravimetry data of catalysed AP decomposition. Gases evolved during catalytic decomposition of AP were analysed by infrared spectroscopy by matrix isolation technique. The mechanism of the catalysed thermal decomposition of AP has also been discussed in terms of an electron transfer process.
Zusammenfassung Es wurde die Reaktionskinetik der thermischen Zersetzung von Ammoniumperchlorat (AP) in Gegenwart der Seltenerdenoxide Yttriumoxid (Y2O3) und Lanthanoxid (La2O3) als Katalysatoren untersucht. Zum Fitting der isothermen thermogravimetrischen Daten der katalysierten Zersetzung von AP läßt sich die Prout-Tompkins- und die Schrumpfwürfelgleichung erfolgreich anwenden. Die bei der katalytischen Zersetzung von AP freigesetzten Gase wurden durch IR-Spektroskopie untersucht. Der Mechanismus der katalytischen thermischen Zersetzung wurde auch vom Gesichtspunkt eines Elektronentransferprozesses aus besprochen.
A rapid, simple and reliable routine method for the determination of total sulphur in zinc concentrates, roasted products and leached residues from zinc smelters is described. The method involves the fusion of the ample with sodium peroxide and sodium carbonate or routine acid decomposition and dissolution to give soluble compounds. The absorbance of the barium sulphate suspension produced by the addition of barium chloride powder to a dilute hydrochloric acid solution of the sample, containing cetyltrimethylammonium bromide solution as a dispersing agent, is measured at 420 nm. The results obtained for some zinc concentrates and other products are compared with those obtained by the conventional gravimetric barium sulphate method. Results for a reference zinc concentrate and other samples with various matrices and the results obtained with standard additions to the samples are good. 相似文献
