Dynamic properties of combustion instability in a lean premixed gas-turbine combustor

We experimentally investigate the dynamic behavior of the combustion instability in a lean premixed gas-turbine combustor from the viewpoint of nonlinear dynamics. A nonlinear time series analysis in combination with a surrogate data method clearly reveals that as the equivalence ratio increases, the dynamic behavior of the combustion instability undergoes a significant transition from stochastic fluctuation to periodic oscillation through low-dimensional chaotic oscillation. We also show that a nonlinear forecasting method is useful for predicting the short-term dynamic behavior of the combustion instability in a lean premixed gas-turbine combustor, which has not been addressed in the fields of combustion science and physics.     

Projector Monte Carlo method based on Slater determinants: a new sampling method for singlet state calculations

A new sampling method is proposed for projector Monte Carlo (PMC) calculations based on Slater determinants (SD) in singlet states. Using the symmetry of the ?? and ?? electron determinants, the number of configurations to be considered can be about one-half of the original sampling. We applied the new sampling to the PMC-SD calculations of the H₂O molecule in the ground state. The results were always improved by the new sampling method both for the equilibrium and for bond-stretched structures.     

Two chitinase-like proteins abundantly accumulated in latex of mulberry show insecticidal activity

Background  

Plant latex is the cytoplasm of highly specialized cells known as laticifers, and is thought to have a critical role in defense against herbivorous insects. Proteins abundantly accumulated in latex might therefore be involved in the defense system.     

Comment on ‘A comparison theorem of the SOR iterative method’

In this work, we point out that there are incorrect assertions in the article by Li-Ying Sun (Li-Ying Sun, A comparison theorem for the SOR iterative method, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 181 (2005) 336-341). Moreover, we answer an open problem.

The present Part VI of this series of articles provides a mathematical and methodical link between (i) fundamental methodology in the repeat space theory (RST), which is referred to as the approach via the aspect of form and general topology and which has universal unifying power to handle additivity problems of molecules that have many identical moieties, and (ii) frontier electron theory of reactivity indices.
