Formation of long-lived fluorofullerene trianions in collisions with Na

The first experimental observation of long-lived triply charged fluorofullerene anions in the gas phase obtained from C60F48 is reported. The existence of a Coloumb barrier trapping the third electron in the trianion is supposed to be responsible for detection of the species which is estimated to have negative third electron affinity.     

Design of Chitosan-5Fu Conjugate Exhibiting Antitumor Activity

The synthesis of taurospongin A has been achieved using, as a key step, a pi-allyltricarbonyliron lactone complex to control a highly stereoselective addition of a methyl group to a carbonyl unit located in the side chain of the complex.     

Structure of YM-254890, a Novel Gq/11 Inhibitor from Chromobacterium sp. QS3666

The isolation and structure elucidation of YM-254890, a novel G_q/11 inhibitor from Chromobacterium sp. QS3666, is described. The gross structure was determined by one- and two-dimensional NMR studies and mass spectrometry. YM-254890 is a cyclic depsipeptide containing uncommon amino acids; β-hydroxyleucine (two residues), N,O-dimethylthreonine and N-methyldehydroalanine. YM-254890 exists as a mixture of two conformers in a variety of NMR solvents, and the distinction between major and minor conformers appears to lie in the geometry of the amide bond between 3-phenyllactic acid and N-methyldehydroalanine. The absolute stereochemistery was elucidated by Marfey's analysis and chiral HPLC analysis of the acid hydrolysate of YM-254890.     

Determination of ofloxacin in human serum by high-performance liquid chromatography with column switching.

The chromatographic behaviour of ofloxacin on various sorbents, including ODS, C8, C1, nitril, phenyl and tert,-butyl, as stationary phases was investigated and a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay was developed for the determination of ofloxacin in serum. The serum samples were directly introduced onto an HPLC column after filtering through a Morcut II membrane filter to remove proteins. The filtrate was concentrated on a pre-column using a phenyl stationary phase and was then introduced to an analytical column with an ODS stationary phase by column switching. Ofloxacin and enoxacin as an internal standard were detected by ultraviolet absorbance at 300 nm. Determination was possible for ofloxacin over the concentration range 50-2000 ng/ml; the limit of detection was 20 ng/ml. The recovery of ofloxacin added to serum was 88.8-101.7% with a coefficient of variation of less than 5.2%. This method is applicable to pharmacokinetic studies of patients after treatment with ofloxacin.     

Rapid and simple method for the determination of alpha 1-acid glycoprotein in serum by column liquid chromatography.

A rapid and simple method for the determination of alpha 1-acid glycoprotein (AAG) in serum was developed by using an anion-exchange column for clean-up of serum and a hydroxyapatite column for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A good correlation was observed between this HPLC method and the conventional radial immunodiffusion method. The method may also be used to determine the AAG concentration in the serum of experimental animals.     

Fourier transform spectroscopy using image sensors

Multichannel Fourier transform spectrometers utilizing image sensing devices are reviewed along with the instrumental design concepts. Although the idea itself is fairly simple, a photographic plate in holographic spectroscopy is replaced by an image sensor, there are stringent requirements to be satisfied in order to realize the system for field use. Mainly two types of the instrument, which are characterized by the Sagnac common-path interferometer and the polarization interferometer optics, respectively, are described with regard to their system performances. Examples of the system operation introduced show that Fourier transform spectrometers without mechanical moving parts play an important role in a variety of spectroscopic applications under severe surroundings. In a summary, methods for the resolution enhancement and comments on the signal-to-noise ratio are also included.     

Pentamethylcyclopentadienylrhodium(III) and -iridium(III) Complexes Showing P,O Coordination: Unprecedented Insertion of tcne and tcnq into a C−H Bond

Strongly electron withdrawing cyanoolefins tetracyanoethylene (tcne) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyano-p-quinodimethane (tcnq) react with [(η⁵-C₅Me₅)MCl(MDMPP-P,O)] (M=Rh, Ir; MDMPP-P,O=PPh₂(2-O-6-MeO-C₆H₃), a P,O chelating phosphane) by insertion into the C−H bond adjacent to the M−O σ bond. The crystal structure of the iridium complex formed upon insertion of tcne is shown.
