Polarographic study of acridine and 9-chloroacridine and its derivatives in dimethylformamide

Polarographic data on the reduction of acridine (I) and its 9-chloro (II), 2-methoxy-9-chloro (III), 4-methoxy-9-chloro (IV), 2-methyl-9-chloro (V), 4-methyl-9-chloro (VI), 2,9-dichloro (VII), and 4,9-dichloro (VIII) derivatives and a mechanism for the reduction are presented. In dimethylformamide (DMF) the polarographic reduction of acridine I takes place in two steps with participation of one electron in each step and the intermediate formation of an anion radical. Acridine II is reduced in four steps: The second and fourth waves correspond to the reduction of the heteroring, while the first and third waves are associated with detachment of a chlorine atom. The addition of phenol as a proton donor facilitates the reduction but does not affect the number of electrons consumed by the depolarizer during its reduction. A linear correlation between E_1/2 and the corresponding constants of quinoline is observed for acridines II, III, V, and VII; this made it possible to calculate the previously unknown constants for acridines that contain a substituent in the 4 position. Janes approach to the dynamics of Darwin systems

Within the Janes statistical formalism, a variational principle describing the dynamics of Darwin systems is suggested. Explicit relations describing the dynamics of selection in Darwin systems with random variables and parameters are derived. The Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation for a Many-Dimensional System in an Oscillator Field

The method of semi-classical asymptotics is applied to a many-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation with an external anisotropic oscillator field. Solutions asymptotic in a small parameter ħ, ħ → 0, are constructed in the class of functions localized in the neighborhood of an unclosed parabolic surface associated with the phase curve that describes the evolution of the vertex of this surface. In the normal direction to the surface, the functions have the form of the one-soliton solution of a one-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The asymptotic evolution operator is considered accurate to O(ħ^3/2), ħ → 0, in the specified class of solutions. Relationship between the morphology and combustibility of fluorinated polyamide composites

The effect that polyfluorinated alcohols immobilized on montmorillonite support exert on structuralmorphological characteristics and combustibility of polymer composites was studied with 1,1,9-trihydroperfluoro- 1-nonanol as example. The relationship between the flame resistance of this heterochain polymer and its morphology was revealed by X-ray diffraction analysis, electron microscopy, DSC, and Fourier IR spectroscopy. This relationship is associated with the reorganization of the crystal and molecular structure under the influence of fluorinated organoclay, ensuring increased degree of crystallinity and redistribution of the fractions of α- and γ-crystalline forms in the polymorphic composition of polycaprolactam, making its supramolecular structure more perfect, and favoring preparation of a fluorinated material of decreased combustibility.

Motion of a nonrectilinear fiber in a viscous fluid flow

The plane problem of dynamic interaction of a laminar viscous fluid flow and an inextensible pliable fiber of finite length is solved using the perturbation method. Two types of rheological twodimensional flows — pure shear and simple shear — are considered. Formulas are obtained for the evolution of the tensile force and the shape of the fiber. Results of asymptotic and numerical calculations are compared.
