Spectrophotometric determination of tranexamic acid in pharmaceutical bulk and dosage forms.

In this study, a simple, fast, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of tranexamic acid in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the reaction of ninhydrin with the primary amino group of tranexamic acid in the basic medium at pH 8.0. The reaction produces a bluish-purple color which absorbs maximally at 565 nm. Beer's law was obeyed in the range of 3-40 microg ml(-1) with molar absorptivity of 5.093 x 10(3) L mol(-1) cm(-1). The effects of various factors such as temperature, heating time, concentration of reagent, color stability and interferences were investigated to optimize the procedure. The results have been validated analytically and statistically. The proposed method has been applied for the determination of tranexamic acid in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations with good results.     

Integration of Markov and Linear Programming Models to Assess the Farmgate and National Consequences of Adopting New Bovine Reproductive Technologies in the United Kingdom Agriculture

Despite many advances in biotechnology being futuristic, in some industries such technological improvements are now becoming generally available for absorption into commercial practice. The new reproductive technologies for bovine animals are such an example. For a regulated industry like agriculture, an ex ante evaluation of the impact of their adoption is the concern of policy makers. This paper describes a modelling strategy devised to assess these impacts, using a sequence of stochastic, financial and linear programming models. A set of individual farm type models were developed and later extended to a national model to simulate the interactions that occur between dairy and beef enterprises and the competition between them for resources on individual farms. Restraints reflecting national policies such as quotas on milk production and industry support through subsidies are built into the model to explore several scenarios. These models are used to assess the impact of new technologies on dairy and beef production nationally and for regions which have been identified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.     

Preconditioners for Incompressible Navier-Stokes Solvers

<正>In this paper we give an overview of the present state of fast solvers for the solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations discretized by the finite element method and linearized by Newton or Picard's method.It is shown that block preconditioners form an excellent approach for the solution,however if the grids are not to fine preconditioning with a Saddle point ILU matrix(SILU) may be an attractive alternative. The applicability of all methods to stabilized elements is investigated.In case of the stand-alone Stokes equations special preconditioners increase the efficiency considerably.     

Raman Spectroscopy of Biological Tissues

Abstract

This article reviews some of the recent advances in Raman spectroscopy, in areas related to natural tissues and cell biology. It summarizes some of the most widely used peak frequencies and their assignments. The aim of this study is to prepare a database of molecular fingerprints, which will help researchers in defining the chemical structure of the biological tissues introducing most of the important peaks present in the natural tissues. In spite of applying different methods, there seems to be a considerable similarity in defining the peaks of identical areas of the spectra. As a result, it is believed that preparing a unique collection of the frequencies encountered in Raman spectroscopic studies can lead to significant improvements both in the quantity and quality of spectral data and their outcomes. This article is the first review of its kind to provide a precise database on the most important Raman characteristic peak frequencies for researchers aiming to analyze natural tissues by Raman spectroscopy and will especially be of considerable assistance to those who are focusing on the analysis of cancerous tissues by Raman spectroscopy.     

Langmuir probe and spectroscopic studies of RF generated helium-nitrogen mixture plasma

This paper reports the effect of helium percentage variation in a capacitive RF helium-nitrogen mixture plasma on various plasma parameters and concentration of nitrogen active species (N₂(C³Π _u) and N₂ ⁺(B²Σ _u ⁺)). Langmuir probe is used for determination of electron energy distribution functions, effective electron temperature, plasma potential and electron density. Optical emission spectroscopy is used for determination of electron temperature from Boltzmann's plot of He–I lines and the relative changes in the concentration of active species by measuring the emission intensities of nitrogen (0-0) bands of the second positive and the first negative systems. The results demonstrate that electron temperature, electron density and concentration of active species increase significantly with increase in helium percentage in the mixture and RF power.     

Synthesis,antimicrobial activity,and molecular docking study of formylnaphthalenyloxymethyl‐triazolyl‐N‐phenylacetamides

In the present study, substituted formylnaphthalenyloxymethyl‐triazolyl‐N‐phenylacetamide derivatives ( 6a – k ) have been designed and synthesized employing click chemistry approach and evaluated for their in vitro antifungal and antibacterial activities. All the newly synthesized compounds were thoroughly characterized by ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and HRMS spectral techniques. Among the screened compounds, 6d , 6e , 6j , and 6k have shown good antifungal and antibacterial activities. Compound 6k has shown very effective antimicrobial activity. We further performed exploratory docking studies on microbial DNA gyrase to rationalize the in vitro biological data and to demonstrate the mechanism of antimicrobial activity. This is the first report to demonstrate the formylnaphthalenyloxymethyl, triazole, and N‐phenylacetamide hybrids as potential antimicrobial agents.     

Estimation of background radiation levels and associated health risks in mineral rich district Chiniot,Pakistan

The mineral extraction activities may disturb the natural radioactivity, therefore current study aims to generate baseline data of natural radionuclides and anthropogenic ¹³⁷Cs before the start of industrial activities. Gamma spectrometry and gross alpha and beta counting systems were used for activity measurement in environmental samples. In soil, the mean activity of ²³²Th, ²²⁶Ra, ⁴⁰K and ¹³⁷Cs were determined as 79 (66–117), 47 (34–80), 823 (602–1159) and 1.3 (1.1–4.5) Bq kg^?1, respectively. The average annual effective dose rate (128.7 µSv h^?1) in the study area was twice higher than world’s average value. Indoor hazard index was greater than unity at two places; therefore, proper ventilation is proposed during construction.

     

Synthesis,Characterization, Structural Description,Micellization Behavior,DNA Binding Study and Antioxidant Activity of 4, 5 and 6-Coordinated Copper(II) and Zinc(II) Complexes

Four mononuclear copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes were synthesized by the reaction of copper and zinc salts with 3,4-dichlorophenylactic acid, 2-bromophenylactic acid, biphenylacetic acid (O-donor ligand) and bipyridine (N-donor ligands) having the general formulae [(L)₂Cu(bp)(H₂O)] ( 1 ), [(BpA)₂Cu(bp)] ( 2 ), [(L)₂Zn(bp)(H₂O)] ( 3 ) and [(L*)₂Zn(bp)] ( 4 ) (L = 3,4-dichlorophenylacetate, L* = 2-bromophenylacetate bp = bipyridine, and BpA = biphenylacetate). Structures of all compounds were characterized through FT-IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. FT-IR spectra of all complexes confirmed the binding mode of Cu-O and Zn-O. XRD data revealed that complexes 1 – 3 exhibited distorted octahedral arrangement, whereas complex 4 has a distorted tetrahedral environment. Micellization behavior was examined with anionic surfactant (SDS) by conductance measurement as well as absorption spectral analysis. DNA binding study was assessed through viscosity measurement and UV/Vis spectrophotometry. DPPH free radical scavenging assay was measured by UV/Vis spectrophotometry. The results showed nice biological potential of all the complexes.
