Sodium bromide efficiently catalyses the regioselective cleavage of oxiranes with chlorotrimethylsilane to the corresponding O-silylated chlorohydrins in excellent yields.     

Higher Dimensional LRS Bianchi Type-I Domain Walls in a Scalar-Tensor Theory of Gravitation

An exact higher dimensional LRS Bianchi type-I cosmological model is obtained in presence of thick domain walls in a scalar tensor theory of gravitation proposed by Saez and Ballester (Phys. Lett. A113:467, 1985). Some physical and kinematical properties of the models are also discussed.     

Coupled nonlinear waves in a composite magnetic-semiconducting medium

In this Letter we investigate the propagation of coupled nonlinear Alfven-spin and helicon-spin waves in a composite medium having the properties of both magnetic and semiconducting materials. We arrive at the nonlinear evolution equations for these coupled waves using the reductive perturbation method for which we obtain soliton solutions. We also discuss the limiting cases for the two materials separately.     

Molecular modeling studies, synthesis, and biological evaluation of Plasmodium falciparum enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (PfENR) inhibitors

The search for new antimalarial agents is necessary as current drugs in the market become vulnerable due to the emergence of resistance strains of Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum). The biosynthetic pathway for fatty acids has been recognized and validated as an important drug target in P.falciparum. One of the important enzymes in this pathway that has a determinant role in completing the cycles of chain elongation is Enoyl-ACP reductase (ENR) also popularly known as FabI. In this paper we report the design, synthesis, and microbial evaluation of inhibitors of Plasmodium enoyl reductase (PfENR). The search for inhibitors involved a virtual screening of the iResearch database with docking simulations. One of the hits was selected and modified to optimize its binding to PfENR; this resulted in the development of analogues of N-benzylidene-4-phenyl-1,3-thiazol-2-amine. The activity of these analogues was predicted from comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) models constructed from a dataset of 43 known inhibitors of PfENR. The most promising molecules were synthesized and their structures characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The molecules were screened for in vitro antimalarial activity by whole-cell assay method. Two molecules, viz. VRC-007 and VRC-009, were found to be active at 4.67 and 7.01 μM concentrations, respectively.     

Isoflavonoid glycosides from the rhizomes of Iris germanica

Four isoflavone glycosides were isolated from the rhizomes of Iris germanica. Compounds 1 and 2 are new, while compounds 3 and 4 are known isoflavone glycosides. These compounds were identified as iriskashmirianin 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (1), nigricin 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (2), irilone 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (3) and iridin (4). Their structures were determined with the help of spectroscopic methods.     

Stereoselective synthesis of beta-substituted phenylalanine-beta-phenylisoserine-derived tripeptides using N-cinnamoyl-L-proline as template: synthesis of structural analogues of HIV protease inhibitors

N-Cinnamoyl-L-proline can be used as a template on which beta-substituted phenylalanine and beta-phenylisoserine residues can be synthesized leading to tripeptide derivatives as structural analogues of HIV protease inhibitors.     

Extension of the A1Σ+-X1Σ+ system of7LiH near the dissociation limit

The absorption spectra of⁷LiH have been photographed in the 3,500?2,900 Å region using the second order of a 3.4 M Ebert spectrograph. Observations comprise previously observedA ¹ Σ ⁺-X ¹ Σ ⁺ transitions and several new vibrational bands of this system near the ionisation limit. Rotational and vibrational analysis of these bands (16≦V′≦20) have been carried out and the rotational constants for the upper states have been determined.     

Chemical separation of molybdenum from uranium and fission product nuclides

A very rapid method for the separation of molybdenum(VI) from neutron irradiated uranium and its fission products is described. The procedure is based on the selective extraction of molybdenum(VI) by a 0.1M solution of 2-hexylpyridine in benzene from 4M HCl+0.04M KSCN. Decontamination factors were estimated to be >10⁴ for the radionuclides of niobium, zirconium, ruthenium, lanthanum, cerium, promethium, yttrium, strontium and barium.
