We employ angle-resolved photoemission to characterize the electronic band structure of the Pb "nanowire" array self-assembled on a stepped Si(111) surface. Despite the highly oriented nanowires observed in scanning tunneling microscopy images, we find essentially two-dimensional Fermi contours modulated one dimensionally perpendicular to the wires. This strong two-dimensional and quasi-one-dimensional nature of the band structure explains the stability and anisotropy of the metallic phase down to 4 K as reported recently. A simple tight-binding model with each Si nanoterrace covered by a densely packed Pb overlayer successfully reproduces this modulated band structure and quantifies the electron coupling within the "nanostripes" and the step-edge potential. 相似文献

The adiabatic approximation is an important concept in quantum mechanics. In linear systems, the adiabatic condition is derived with the help of the instantaneous eigenvalues and eigenstates of the Hamiltonian, a procedure that breaks down in the presence of nonlinearity. Using an explicit example relevant to photoassociation of atoms into diatomic molecules, we demonstrate that the proper way to derive the adiabatic condition for nonlinear mean-field (or classical) systems is through a linearization procedure, using which an analytic adiabatic condition is obtained for the nonlinear model under study. 相似文献

We study the frequency of the plasma oscillations of electron–positron pairs created by the vacuum polarization in a uniform electric field with strength E in the range 0.2Ec<E<10Ec. Following the approach adopted in Ruffini, et al. (2007) [1] we work out one second order ordinary differential equation for a variable related to the velocity from which we can recover the classical plasma oscillation equation when E→0. Thereby, we focus our attention on its evolution in time studying how this oscillation frequency approaches the plasma frequency. The time-scale needed to approach to the plasma frequency and the power spectrum of these oscillations are computed. The characteristic frequency of the power spectrum is determined uniquely from the initial value of the electric field strength. The effects of plasma degeneracy and pair annihilation are discussed. 相似文献

In this paper, we studied efficient second-harmonic generation (SHG) of femtosecond pulses in both phase- and group-velocity-matched structures. Obtained results show that phase matching becomes more critical under conditions required for high levels of conversion efficiency. And the imperfect phase mismatch caused by mismatched group-velocity dispersion (GVD) will limit conversion efficiency as well as bandwidth of generated second-harmonic (SH) pulses. The spectral characteristics of the generated SH pulses and its conversion efficiency in the strong pump regime are investigated in detail. The acceptance bandwidth of nonlinear crystal in the high-efficiency SHG is redefined in the paper, and the definition is much closer to the practical application of design. 相似文献

Macroscopic resonant tunneling between the two lowest lying states of a bistable rf SQUID is used to characterize noise in a flux qubit. Measurements of the incoherent decay rate as a function of flux bias revealed a Gaussian-shaped profile that is not peaked at the resonance point but is shifted to a bias at which the initial well is higher than the target well. The rms amplitude of the noise, which is proportional to the dephasing rate 1/tauphi, was observed to be weakly dependent on temperature below 70 mK. Analysis of these results indicates that the dominant source of low energy flux noise in this device is a quantum mechanical environment in thermal equilibrium. 相似文献

In this paper, the microwave-absorbing properties of (Ni1−x−yCoxZny)Fe2O4 spinel ferrites have been investigated within the frequency range of 0.5–14 GHz. There are two kinds of resonance peaks observed in the permeability spectra: domain-wall resonances at lower frequency and spin-rotation resonances at higher frequency. The reflection loss (RL) calculations show that the prepared NiCoZn spinel ferrites are good electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers in microwave range. In terms of the absorbing frequency band (AFB) and the matching thickness (tm), (Ni0.407Co0.207Zn0.386)Fe2O4 shows the best performances: tm=3.15 mm and the AFB is 8.64–11.2 GHz. Decreasing the weight ratio of NiCoZn ferrites in ferrites/wax composites, the matching thickness decreases and the AFB shifts to higher frequencies. Compared with the absorbers with single-layer ferrites, the absorbers with double-layers ferrites have better absorbing performances, such as a thinner matching thickness and a wider EM wave AFB. 相似文献
