The electrochemical detection of the hazardous pollutant 4‐nitrophenol (4‐NP) at low potentials, in order to avoid matrix interferences, is an important research challenge. This study describes the development, electrochemical characterization and utilization of a multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) film electrode for the quantitative determination of 4‐NP in natural water. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements showed that the modified surface exhibits a decrease of ca. 13 times in the charge transfer resistance when compared with a bare glassy carbon (GC) surface. Voltammetric experiments showed the possibility to oxidize a hydroxylamine layer (produced by the electrochemical reduction of 4‐NP on the GC/MWNCT surface) in a potential region which is approximately 700 mV less positive than that needed to oxidize 4‐NP, thus minimizing the interference of matrix components. The limit of detection for 4‐NP obtained using square‐wave voltammetry (0.12 μmol L?1) was lower than the value advised by EPA. A natural water sample from a dam located in São Carlos (Brazil) was spiked with 4‐NP and analyzed by the standard addition method using the GC/MWCNT electrode, without any further purification step. The recovery procedure yielded a value of 96.5% for such sample, thus confirming the suitability of the developed method to determine 4‐NP in natural water samples. The electrochemical determination was compared with that obtained by HPLC with UV‐vis detection.  相似文献

The composition, the thermal properties, and the kinetics of the thermo‐oxidative degradation of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) were studied as a function of the increasing crystalline fraction, which resulted from the selective extraction of the amorphous part, through digestion by immersion in fuming nitric acid (HNO3) for different periods of time. The chemical and thermodynamic changes in HDPE, brought about by digestion in nitric acid for different periods of time, are discussed. Changes in the chemistry and microstructure of the HDPE, as a function of acid treatment for different periods of time, were studied using infra‐red spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and thermal analysis (DSC and TGA), as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM). These studies were carried out as a function of the extracted amorphous fraction of HDPE samples via digestion in HNO3. These studies showed that in the first stages of the acid chemical attack, the amorphous part first undergoes a chemical modification and then dissolves into the strong acid medium. The total crystalline fraction apparently decreases during the first stages of the chemical attack and then increases as the amorphous part is extracted. TGA results show that as the selective extraction of the amorphous part occurs, there is a displacement of the thermo‐oxidative degradation toward higher temperatures. The kinetics of the thermo‐oxidative degradation as a function of the extraction of the amorphous part was followed according to the Horowitz‐Metzger method, and it was found that as the concentration of the crystalline fraction increases, the activation energy for the thermo‐oxidative degradation increases. SEM studies show that the extraction of the amorphous part does not affect the size of the crystalline lamellar thickness of HDPE. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several physicochemical properties (13C-n.m.r., spectrophotometric, chromatographic, calorimetric) were measured for a series of 38 azo dyes in order to test the existence of relationships between one or more of these data sets and the fastness of the dyes on polyester fabric. The partial least-squares method was applied; it had previously proved useful in establishing structure/property relationships for the same dyes. It is shown that 13C-n.m.r. data can be used successfully to predict dye fastness to light. These data are quickly and cheaply obtained with small amounts of compound.  相似文献

In order to obtain OH concentration measurements in atmospheric pressure flames from saturated fluorescence signal, we have developed a stationary four-level model. A general relationship between the measured upper state population and the total number density has been derived. The effects of the imbalance between the rotational transfer rates in the upper and ground states is analyzed. We show that in the case of comparable rotational rates, the results of our treatment are similar to the ones obtained with the balanced cross rate model. A set of complementary data which should facilitate absolute OH concentration measurements is also pointed out.  相似文献

The convenient synthesis of both enantiomers of the piperidine alkaloids such as dumetorine and epidihydropinidine is described. Pure enantiomers of 2-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester are used as a common starting material. In this paper we will generalize the representation theory developed for finite Tarski algebras given in [7]. We will introduce the notion of Tarski space as a generalization of the notion of dense Tarski set, and we will prove that the category of Tarski algebras with semi-homomorphisms is dually equivalent to the category of Tarski spaces with certain closed relations, called T-relations. By these results we will obtain that the algebraic category of Tarski algebras is dually equivalent to the category of Tarski spaces with certain partial functions.
