The dynamics of the electric fields in the interior of DNA are measured by using oligonucleotides in which a native base pair is replaced by a dye molecule (coumarin 102) whose emission spectrum is sensitive to the local electric field. Time-resolved measurements of the emission spectrum have been extended to a six decade time range (40 fs to 40 ns) by combining results from time-correlated photon counting, fluorescence up-conversion, and transient absorption. Recent results showed that when the reporter is placed in the center of the oligonucleotide, the dynamics are very broadly distributed over this entire time range and do not show specific time constants associated with individual processes (Andreatta, D.; et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2005, 127, 7270). This paper examines an oligonucleotide with the reporter near its end. The broadly distributed relaxation seen before remains with little attenuation. In addition, a new relaxation with a well-defined relaxation time of 5 ps appears. This process is assigned to the rapid component of "fraying" at the end of the helix.  相似文献

Dark-green platy crystals of the new compound Pb31O22Br10Cl8 (1) have been obtained by rapid quenching of a lead oxide halide melt. The structure of 1 (triclinic, P1, a = 12.1192(7) angstroms, b = 16.2489(10) angstroms, c = 18.3007(11) angstroms, alpha = 93.104(2) degrees, beta = 95.809(2) degrees, gamma = 111.252(1) degrees, V = 3325.4(3) angstroms3, Z = 2) can be viewed as incorporation of [PbX6]4- halide units (X = Br, Cl) into the defect PbO matrix. The latter represents a two-dimensional [O22Pb30]16+ cationic layer of OPb4 tetrahedra that can be derived from the [OPb] tetrahedral layer observed in tetragonal PbO. The layer consists of 22 symmetrically inequivalent OPb4 tetrahedra and represents the topologically most complicated arrangement of tetrahedra known to date.  相似文献

Evolution of internal concentration profiles of methanol in 2-D pore structure of ferrierite crystal was measured in the pressure range of 0 to 80 mbar with the help of the recently developed interference microscopy technique. The measured profiles showed that both a surface barrier and internal diffusion controlled the kinetics of adsorption/desorption. Furthermore, they indicated that in the main part of the crystal, the z-directional 10-ring channels were not accessible to methanol and that the transport of methanol mainly occurred via 8-ring y-directional channels. The roof-like part of the crystal was almost instantaneously filled/emptied during adsorption/desorption, indicating accessible 10-ring channels in this section. The measured profiles were analyzed microscopically with the direct application of Fick's second law, and the transport diffusivity of methanol in ferrierite was determined as a function of adsorbed phase concentration. The transport diffusivity varied by more than 2 orders of magnitude over the investigated pressure range. Transport diffusivities, calculated from measured profiles from small and large pressure step changes, were all found to be consistent. Simulated concentration profiles obtained from the solution of Fick's second law with the calculated functional dependence of diffusivities on concentration compared very well with the measured concentration profiles, indicating validity and consistency of the measured data and the calculated diffusivities. The results indicate the importance of measuring the evolution of concentration profiles as this information is vital in determining (1) the direction of internal transport, (2) the presence of internal structural defects, and (3) surface/internal transport barriers. Such detailed information is available neither from common macroscopic methods since, they measure changes in macroscopic properties and use model assumptions to predict the concentration profiles inside, nor from microscopic methods, since they only provide information on average displacement of diffusing molecules.  相似文献

We propose a setup to observe soliton ratchet effects using discrete cavity solitons in a 1D array of coupled waveguide optical resonators. The net motion of solitons can be generated by an adiabatic shaking of the holding beam with zero average inclination angle. The resulting soliton velocity can be controlled by different parameters of the holding beam.  相似文献

The separation of the enantiomers of several a-amino acids was studied on a new chiral stationary phase (CSP) which is based on the macrocyclic glycopeptide antibiotic eremomycin attached to silica particles. Retention and separation factors were determined under analytical conditions at ambient temperature for different mobile phase compositions. In order to evaluate the potential with respect to preparative separations the adsorption isotherms of D- and L-methionine were determined for one mobile phase composition applying the elution by characteristic point method. The isotherms were validated by comparing experimentally determined elution profiles with predictions based on the equilibrium dispersive model. Finally, the performance of the eremomycin CSP was compared with a commercially available CSP based on the macrocyclic antibiotic teicoplanin. After determining the isotherms of D- and L-methionine also for the teicoplanin phase, the equilibrium dispersive model was used for both CSP to identify optimal operating conditions. For the separation and conditions considered the new eremomycin CSP revealed a better performance compared to the teicoplanin CSP.  相似文献

A recent proposal by Ryu and Takayanagi for a holographic interpretation of entanglement entropy in conformal field theories dual to supergravity on anti-de Sitter space is generalized to include entanglement entropy of black holes living on the boundary of anti-de Sitter space. The generalized proposal is verified in boundary dimensions d=2 and d=4 for both the uv-divergent and uv-finite terms. In dimension d=4 an expansion of entanglement entropy in terms of size L of the subsystem outside the black hole is considered. A new term in the entropy of dual strongly coupled conformal-field theory, which universally grows as L(2)lnL and is proportional to the value of the obstruction tensor at the black hole horizon, is predicted.  相似文献

A new method of measuring velocity and attenuation of leaky surface waves is presented. A single focused transmitting transducer and linear receiving array in a pitch-catch arrangement are used in the proposed system. The spatial distribution of the acoustic field in the leaky wave is recorded by the array, and the parameters of the leaky wave can be obtained by processing the output waveforms. In comparison with existing material characterization systems, the mechanical scanning of the transducers is not used any more, and the measurement time is only limited by the time of the wave propagation and speed of the electronic data acquisition system.  相似文献

We report a new synthetic aperture optical microscopy in which high-resolution, wide-field amplitude and phase images are synthesized from a set of Fourier holograms. Each hologram records a region of the complex two-dimensional spatial frequency spectrum of an object, determined by the illumination field's spatial and spectral properties and the collection angle and solid angle. We demonstrate synthetic microscopic imaging in which spatial frequencies that are well outside the modulation transfer function of the collection optical system are recorded while maintaining the long working distance and wide field of view.  相似文献

Given a curve over a finite field, we compute the number of stable bundles of not necessarily coprime rank and degree over it. We apply this result to compute the virtual Poincaré polynomials of the moduli spaces of stable bundles over a curve.
