Equilibrium orientation states in a system of two magnetic layers with antiferromagnetic coupling

The equilibrium orientations of magnetic moments are found for a system of two antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic films in an external magnetic field. Field intervals are found where the noncollinear and orientational bistability states occur, resulting in the orientation hysteresis and phase transition.     

Parametric interaction and compression of optical pulses in field of high-power pump wave

It is shown that, in the undepleted pump approximation, the nonlinear problem of the three-wave parametric interaction under the conditions of phase mismatch can be reduced to a problem of linear interaction of the signal and idle waves with a strong low-frequency pump wave. The whole wave packet formed by the two waves breaks down to partial pulses whose dynamics is controlled by effective dispersion parameters. This can be accompanied by the compression of either one of the pulses that comprises the wave packet or the whole wave packet.     

Optical spectra of one-dimensional defect photonic crystals

The effect exerted by defects that represent a local disturbance of the structural periodicity on the band spectrum of a one-dimensional photonic crystal has been investigated. A classification of single defects has been proposed. It has been demonstrated that the position of defect minibands in the band gap of the spectrum of the crystal can be controlled by varying the type of a defect and its location in the crystal structure. The presence of two defects in the structure leads to the formation of two minibands, so that the spacing between the minibands and their intensity depend on the type of defects and on the distance between them.     

Surface polaritons at the interface between anisotropic superconductor and insulator

The dispersion, polarization, and energy characteristics of surface polaritons propagating along the interface between an isotropic insulator and an anisotropic superconductor are studied. The permittivity is calculated in the two-fluid model of superconducting and normal electrons. It is demonstrated that the properties of the surface wave are strongly dependent on the physical characteristics of the media, frequency, and temperature.     

Interaction of light waves with an isolated domain wall in a ferrodielectric

The specific features of the reflection and transmission of light waves through a planar domain wall in a ferrodielectric are investigated with due regard for the linear and quadratic magneto-optical coupling. The polarization and intensity-related characteristics of the reflected and transmitted light waves are determined at an arbitrary angle of incidence of a normal mode of the uniformly magnetized medium.     

Nonreciprocal effects in active nonlinear optical fibers with nonlinearity dispersion

The nonreciprocity of the dynamics of Gaussian optical pulses propagating in inhomogeneous nonlinear active optical fibers with nonlinearity dispersion is considered. A substantial nonreciprocity of the time of pulse propagation along the optical fiber in the forward and backward directions is revealed. The possibility of realizing the regime of superluminal propagation of a pulse in one of the directions of the optical fiber is indicated.
