High-energy spin excitations in the electron-doped superconductor Pr(0.88)LaCe(0.12)CuO(4-delta) with T(c) = 21 K

We use high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering to study the low-temperature magnetic excitations of the electron-doping superconductor Pr(0.88)LaCe(0.12)CuO(4-delta) (T(c) = 21 +/- 1 K) over a wide energy range (4 meV < or = homega < or = 330 meV). The effect of electron doping is to cause a wave vector (Q) broadening in the low-energy (homega < or = 80 meV) commensurate spin fluctuations at (0.5, 0.5) and to suppress the intensity of spin-wave-like excitations at high energies (homega > or = 100 meV). This leads to a substantial redistribution in the spectrum of the local dynamical spin susceptibility chi'(omega), and reveals a new energy scale similar to that of the lightly hole-doped YB2Cu3O(6.353) (T(c) = 18 K).     

Non-covalently dendronized flavins as organocatalysts for aerobic reduction of olefins

A variety of association complexes of synthetic flavin with diaminopyridine and melamine receptors are described in terms of synthesis, association properties, and catalytic activities for aerobic hydrogenation of olefins. The 1:1 association complex of lumiflavin 1 with 2,6-bis(acylamino)pyridine receptor bearing 3,4,5-trialkoxybenzyl ether dendron unit 2 acts as an efficient supramolecular organocatalyst for the aerobic reduction of styrene at ambient temperature under atmospheric air pressure.     

Oxidation of Sulfides with Hydrogen Peroxide Catalyzed by Vitamin B2 Derivatives

5-Ethyl-3-methyl-2′,4′:3′,5′-di-O-methylenedioxyriboflavinium perchlorate (1, DMRFlEt⁺ClO₄ ^–), derived readily from commercially available vitamin B₂ (riboflavin), exhibits high catalytic activity for the oxidation of organic sulfides with hydrogen peroxide. The reaction provides an efficient and selective method for the oxidative transformation of organic sulfides to the corresponding sulfoxides under mild conditions.

Single pump on-line mixing system for capillary supercritical fluid chromatography

A simple inexpensive system comprising a piston pump, switching valves, and capillary tubing has been developed for preparing mixed mobile phases for capillary supercritical fluid chromatography. The system enables the on-line preparation of mixed mobile phases without contamination of the pump with modifier. Modifier concentrations, which can be changed stepwise, were determined both experimentally and theoretically, the latter on the basis of density–viscosity relationships. Examples of both isobaric and pressure programmed separations are demonstrated.     

Development of Ribbon Fiber Type Multi-Channel Power Level Monitor with Low-Insertion/Polarization Loss

We would like to propose a new in-line multi-channel power level monitor, which is applicable as tap-monitor for multi-channel WDM signals. Its ribbon fiber structure has far exceeded PLC performance and realized compact-size and lower insertion/polarization dependent loss.     

Conversion of D-glucose to cyclitol with hydroxymethyl substituent via intramolecular silyl nitronate cycloaddition reaction: application to total synthesis of (+)-cyclophellitol

[reaction: see text] A diastereoisomeric mixture of 1-nitro-6-heptene-2,3,4,5-tetraol derivative (A) was prepared by Henry reaction between d-glucose-based aldehyde and nitromethane. Only the (2S)-isomer of A led to cyclitol (B) via nitronate-olefin cycloaddition on treatment with TMS-Cl and Et(3)N in the presence of catalytic DMAP followed by acid treatment. (+)-Cyclophellitol (1) was synthesized from B in eight steps.     

Neutral transport code for rovibrational population calculation of molecular hydrogen in large helical device plasmas

An rovibrationally resolved collisional-radiative model of molecular hydrogen (K. Sawada and M. Goto, Atoms 4: 29, 2016) is included in the authors' neutral transport code for large helical device (LHD) plasmas. The spatial distributions of the electron temperature and density, including the divertor and divertor leg regions, are given to the code. The molecules released from the graphite divertor target are tracked. The initial rotational and vibrational states of the released molecules are provided by simulation using a molecular dynamics model. The rovibrational population produced in an LHD plasma is evaluated.
