EPR spectroscopy of a bidimensional distribution of N-alkyl-pyridinium TCNQ microcrystals: A model for langmuir-blodgett films

We have studied the EPR spectra of a bidimensionally ordered collection of platelike crystallites formed by Tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) ion salts. We have examinedS=1/2 andS=1 systems which exhibit g tensor and Zero-Field Splitting (ZFS) tensor anisotropy, respectively. EPR spectra change when the magnetic field is rotated with respect to the plane of the teflon support on which the ordered powder adheres. Simulation of such spectra has been exploited to get structural information on the arrangement of the TCNQ molecules stacked inside the crystallite.     

Graphical Linking of MO Multicenter Bond Index and VB Structures. II- 5-c Rings and 6-c Heterocyclic Rings

Through the graphical method proposed, it is possible to create a link between an MO multicenter bond index and VB structures. The value of the index depends on the order of the atoms involved, if there are more than three. For 5-c rings, three basic structures are required; the eventually different values are 12. Unlike the 6-c case, it may happen that different pairs of basic structures are used to build the same polygon. For the 6-c rings, including heteroatoms, the original degeneracy of benzene splits, leading eventually to 60 different I_ring values.     

Microstructure and transport properties of YBa2Cu3O7−δ films produced by laser ablation from a BaF2/Y2O3/CuO target

The effects of varying the temperature and duration of the post-deposition anneal in watersaturated oxygen were investigated for YBa₂Cu₃O_7−δ films of varying thickness. The films were produced by laser ablation from pressed powder targets consisting of BaF₂,Y₂O₃, and CuO mixtures. This technique produces superconducting films with a highly textured surface. The films were fabricated on SrTiO₃ substrates and were analyzed with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and temperature dependent resistivity. Critical current density (J_c) measurements were performed in magnetic fields up to 1 T. For film thickness on the order of 900 nm, completely c-axis oriented films were obtained with a 60 min anneal at 850°C. Thinner films required less annealing, either shorter times or lower temperatures, to achieve similar results, indicating that the optimal annealing conditions are dependent on film thickness.

Limits to gelation in colloidal aggregation

We show that the dynamics of large fractal colloid aggregates are well described by a combination of translational and rotational diffusion and internal elastic fluctuations, allowing both the aggregate size and internal elasticity to be determined by dynamic light scattering. The comparison of results obtained in microgravity and on Earth demonstrates that cluster growth is limited by gravity-induced restructuring. In the absence of gravity, thermal fluctuations ultimately inhibit fractal growth and set the fundamental limitation to the lowest volume fraction which will gel.     

Pressure enhanced superconductive and magnetic interactions in the system (Er1−xHox)Rh4B4

The effects of hydrostatic pressure to 21 kbar on a series of thirteen ternary compounds in the system (Er_1?xHo_x)Rh₄B₄ are presented. For all compositions, both the superconducting and magnetic interactions are strengthened by the application of external pressure. Maximum sensitivity to pressure of both critical temperature is attained at the critical concentration (x_cr ≈ 0.89) for the disappearance of superconductivity.

About direct obtainment of π SC bond orders

A method for direct obtainment of SC bond orders is shown for even systems with a twofold symmetry axis not crossing a center. Two sets of equations are stated, one referring to symmetric and the other to antisymmetric basis functions.
