We present a method to calculate both normal Raman-scattering (NRS) and resonance Raman-scattering (RRS) spectra from the geometrical derivatives of the frequency-dependent polarizability. In the RRS case, the polarizability derivatives are calculated from resonance polarizabilities by including a finite lifetime of the electronic excited states using time-dependent density-functional theory. The method is a short-time approximation to the Kramers, Heisenberg, and Dirac formalism. It is similar to the simple excited-state gradient approximation method if only one electronic excited state is important, however, it is not restricted to only one electronic excited state. Since the method can be applied to both NRS and RRS, it can be used to obtain complete Raman excitation profiles. To test the method we present the results for the S2 state of uracil and the S4, S3, and S2 states of pyrene. As expected, the results are almost identical to the results obtained from the excited-state gradient approximation method. Comparing with the experimental results, we find in general quite good agreement which enables an assignment of the experimental bands to bands in the calculated spectrum. For uracil the inclusion of explicit waters in the calculations was found to be necessary to match the solution spectra. The calculated resonance enhancements are on the order of 10(4)-10(6), which is in agreement with experimental findings. For pyrene the method is also able to distinguish between the three different electronic states for which experimental data are available. The neglect of anharmonicity and solvent effects in the calculations leads to some discrepancy between theory and experiment.  相似文献

The thermal stability and conformational dynamics of DNA hairpin and dumbbell conjugates having short A-tract base pair domains connected by tri- or hexa(ethylene glycol) linkers is reported. The formation of stable base-paired A-tract hairpins having oligo(ethylene glycol) linkers requires a minimum of four or five A-T base pairs. The formation of base-paired dumbbells having oligo(ethylene glycol) linkers by means of chemical ligation of nicked dumbbells requires a minimum of two A-T base pairs on either side of the nick. Molecular modeling indicates that the hexa(ethylene glycol) linker is sufficiently long to permit formation of strain-free loop regions and B-DNA base pair domains. In contrast, the tri(ethylene glycol) is too short to permit Watson-Crick base pairing between the bases attached to the linker. The shorter linker distorts the duplex, resulting in fluxional behavior in which the base pairs adjacent to the linker and at the open end of the hairpin dissociate on the nanosecond time scale. The loss of interstrand binding energy caused by these fluctuations leads to a difference of approximately 5 degrees C in melting temperature between EG3 and EG6 hairpins. An analysis of the fluxional behavior of the EG3 adjacent base-pair has been used to study the pathways for base flipping and base stacking, including the identification of rotated base (partially flipped) intermediates that have not been described previously for A-T base pairs.  相似文献

Each of these main‐group‐element‐based emitters feature pinacolboronates (BPin) as ring‐appended side groups. The O(3P,1D) + H2 --> OH + H reaction is studied using trajectory dynamics within the approximate quantum potential approach. Calculations of the wave-packet reaction probabilities are performed for four coupled electronic states for total angular momentum J = 0 using a mixed coordinate/polar representation of the wave function. Semiclassical dynamics is based on a single set of trajectories evolving on an effective potential-energy surface and in the presence of the approximate quantum potential. Population functions associated with each trajectory are computed for each electronic state. The effective surface is a linear combination of the electronic states with the contributions of individual components defined by their time-dependent average populations. The wave-packet reaction probabilities are in good agreement with the quantum-mechanical results. Intersystem crossing is found to have negligible effect on reaction probabilities summed over final electronic states.  相似文献

We present here a detailed study of the specific nanoparticle structures that give rise to single-molecule surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SMSERS). A variety of structures are observed, but the simplest are dimers of Ag nanocrystals. We chose one of these structures for detailed study using electrodynamics calculations and found that the electromagnetic SERS enhancement factors of 10(9) are easily obtained and are consistent with single-molecule SERS activity.  相似文献

We present extensive molecular dynamics simulations of the ion distributions for DNA duplexes and DNA clusters using the Amber force field with implicit water. The distribution of ions and the electrostatic energy of ions around an isolated DNA duplex and clusters of DNA duplexes in different salt (NaCl) concentrations over the range 0.2-1.0 mol/L are determined on the basis of the simulation results. Using the electrostatic energy profile, we determine a local net charge fraction phi, which is found to increase with increasing of salt concentration. For DNA clusters containing two DNA duplexes (DNA pair) or four DNA duplexes, phi increases as the distance between the duplexes decreases. Combining this result with experimental results for the dependence of the DNA melting temperature on bulk salt concentration, we conclude that for a pair of DNA duplexes the melting temperature increases by 5-10 K for interaxis separations of 25-40 A. For a cluster of four DNA duplexes, an even larger melting temperature increase should occur. We argue that this melting temperature increase in dense DNA clusters is responsible for the cooperative melting mechanism in DNA-linked nanoparticle aggregates and DNA-linked polymer aggregates.  相似文献

A multiscale method is presented that allows for evaluation of plasmon-enhanced optical properties of nanoparticle/molecule complexes with no additional cost compared to standard electrodynamics (ED) and linear response quantum mechanics (QM) calculations for the particle and molecule, respectively, but with polarization and orientation effects automatically described. The approach first calculates the total field of the nanoparticle by ED using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The field intensity in the frequency domain as a function of distance from the nanoparticle is calculated via a Fourier transform. The molecular optical properties are then calculated with QM in the frequency domain in the presence of the total field of the nanoparticle. Back-coupling due to dipolar reradiation effects is included in the single-molecule plane wave approximation. The effects of polarization and partial orientation averaging are considered. The QM/ED method is evaluated for the well-characterized test case of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of pyridine bound to silver, as well as for the resonant Raman chromophore rhodamine 6G. The electromagnetic contribution to the enhancement factor is 10(4) for pyridine and 10(2) for rhodamine 6G.  相似文献

Up to 14 strong intensity oscillations of the specular beam in reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) have been observed during the epitaxial growth of face-centered (fcc) Fe on Cu(001) in the temperature range between 333–370 K. The amplitudes of these oscillations are strong even in the initial stages of growth. This provides evidence that the hetero-epitaxial growth of fcc Fe on Cu(001) proceeds predominantly layer-by-layer-like in that temperature regime. For growth at 300 K, initial Fe-bilayer-island formation followed by predominant layer-by-layer growth above 2 monolayers (ML) of Fe is observed. 3D growth prevails at ˜ 100 K.  相似文献

We describe a method to extract from experimental data the important dynamical modes in spatiotemporal patterns in a system driven out of thermodynamic equilibrium. Using a novel optical technique for controlling fluid flow, we create an experimental ensemble of Rayleigh-Bénard convection patterns with nearby initial conditions close to the onset of secondary instability. An analysis of the ensemble evolution reveals the spatial structure of the dominant modes of the system as well as the corresponding growth rates. The extracted modes are related to localized versions of instabilities found in the ideal unbounded system. The approach may prove useful in describing instability in experimental systems as a step toward prediction and control.  相似文献
