The first controlled experiments measuring the growth of the magneto-Rayleigh-Taylor instability in fast (~100 ns) Z-pinch plasmas are reported. Sinusoidal perturbations on the surface of an initially solid Al tube (liner) with wavelengths of 25-400 μm were used to seed the instability. Radiographs with 15 μm resolution captured the evolution of the outer liner surface. Comparisons with numerical radiation magnetohydrodynamic simulations show remarkably good agreement down to 50 μm wavelengths.  相似文献

The level scheme above the proton threshold in 26Si is crucial for evaluating the 25Al(p, γ)26Si stellar reaction, which is important for understanding the astrophysical origin of the long-lived cosmic radioactivity 26Al(T 1/2 = 7.17 × 105 y) in the Galaxy. The excited states in 26Si have been studied using an in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy technique with the 24Mg(3He, )26Si reaction. γ-rays with energies up to 4.6 MeV emitted from excited states in 26Si have been measured using large volume HPGe detectors. The spin-parity of one of the most important states reported recently at 5890.0keV has been assigned as 0+ by γ-γ angular correlation measurements in this work.  相似文献

We demonstrate single-shot readout of a silicon quantum dot spin qubit, and we measure the spin relaxation time T1. We show that the rate of spin loading can be tuned by an order of magnitude by changing the amplitude of a pulsed-gate voltage, and the fraction of spin-up electrons loaded can also be controlled. This tunability arises because electron spins can be loaded through an orbital excited state. Using a theory that includes excited states of the dot and energy-dependent tunneling, we find that a global fit to the loading rate and spin-up fraction is in good agreement with the data.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the analysis of the flow of cohesionless granular materials down inclined chutes. The stress tensor is assumed to be composed of two contributions, a rate-independent Coulomb part and a non-linear dynamic or viscous part. Plausible forms are chosen for these two stress contributions; the rate-dependent viscous part is based upon previous viscometric experiments of the present authors. The equations of motion are solved for the velocity and solids concentration for the case of two-dimensional stress and velocity fields. The two-dimensional analysis is then extended in a simple but approximate way to handle the effects of friction on the vertical side walls of a rectangular cross-sectioned channel. The predicted velocities and flow rates are compared with experiments of Savage for flowing polystyrene beads and reasonable agreement is found.  相似文献

We demonstrate the folded ultrafast nonlinear interferometer (FUNI) as a 3R all-optical regenerator. Faraday rotation provides inherent polarization stabilization, and the optical fiber nonlinear medium provides ultrafast operation and switching window tunability. We demonstrate 3R regeneration of 10-Gbit/s data with 5-pJ pulse switching energy and 4-ps timing-jitter tolerance.  相似文献

It is found that an m = n = 1 mode with amplitude exceeding a certain threshold can lead to stochastic motion of energetic ions in tokamaks, the large orbit width particles (potatoes) being most easily affected. An n = 1 mode can redistribute particles also in the absence of stochasticity but only when the perturbation is quickly switched on/off, e.g., during a sawtooth crash. In the latter case, the perturbation results in a regular motion of particles around a certain helical orbit, at which a resonance driven by the mode but having no amplitude threshold takes place.  相似文献

A new 9-mm (i.d.) inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) torch is described which supports a stable, analytically useful plasma at less than 500 W of r.f. power and 7 l min-1 total argon gas flow. Detection limits, working curves and other analytical characteristics of the new device are compared with those of both a miniature (13-mm i.d.) and conventional (19-mm i.d.) ICP. Although temperatures of the new plasma are somewhat lower than those in the larger plasmas, the new system offers promise for future, miniaturized ICP instruments.  相似文献

Fast hybrid silicon double-quantum-dot qubit   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We propose a quantum dot qubit architecture that has an attractive combination of speed and fabrication simplicity. It consists of a double quantum dot with one electron in one dot and two electrons in the other. The qubit itself is a set of two states with total spin quantum numbers S(2)=3/4 (S=1/2) and S(z)=-1/2, with the two different states being singlet and triplet in the doubly occupied dot. Gate operations can be implemented electrically and the qubit is highly tunable, enabling fast implementation of one- and two-qubit gates in a simpler geometry and with fewer operations than in other proposed quantum dot qubit architectures with fast operations. Moreover, the system has potentially long decoherence times. These are all extremely attractive properties for use in quantum information processing devices.  相似文献

In the present paper, we generalize the construction of the nil Hecke ring of Kostant–Kumar to the context of an arbitrary formal group law, in particular, to an arbitrary algebraic oriented cohomology theory of Levine–Morel and Panin–Smirnov (e.g., to Chow groups, Grothendieck’s \(K_0\) , connective \(K\) -theory, elliptic cohomology, and algebraic cobordism). The resulting object, which we call a formal (affine) Demazure algebra, is parameterized by a one-dimensional commutative formal group law and has the following important property: specialization to the additive and multiplicative periodic formal group laws yields completions of the nil Hecke and the 0-Hecke rings, respectively. We also introduce a formal (affine) Hecke algebra. We show that the specialization of the formal (affine) Hecke algebra to the additive and multiplicative periodic formal group laws gives completions of the degenerate (affine) Hecke algebra and the usual (affine) Hecke algebra, respectively. We show that all formal affine Demazure algebras (and all formal affine Hecke algebras) become isomorphic over certain coefficient rings, proving an analogue of a result of Lusztig.  相似文献

Significant enhancements in ion yields in time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) are observed when water-soluble analytes are mixed with a polyelectrolyte, e.g., poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) or poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate), and then deposited in the layer-by-layer method on a surface. This previously unobserved effect is demonstrated for 5-chloro-8-methoxyquinoline appended diaza-18-crown-6, 5-(2-aminoethoxy)methyl-5-chloro-8-methoxyquinoline appended diaza-18-crown-6, acridine, 9-anthracenecarboxylic acid, and ferrocenecarboxylic acid. By optical ellipsometry film thicknesses range from ca. 5-20 angstroms. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows significantly less analyte in the polyelectrolyte-analyte films than in the neat analytes. However, TOF-SIMS generally shows significant enhancements in ion yields from the polyelectrolyte films compared with either the neat compounds or the compounds solubilized with acid or base and then dried on a surface. These significant enhancements in ion yields also appear to extend to analyte fragments and cationized molecular species. Some enhancement is also observed for dried droplets of analytes mixed with a polyelectrolyte on surfaces.  相似文献
