Using statistical analysis of the scanning tunneling microscopy images of the 3 × 4-In surface magic cluster (SMC) arrays on Si(100)1 × 2 substrate at low In coverages, the main regularities of the space distribution of the nucleated SMCs have been established. It has been found that a nucleated SMC perturbs the surface potential relief within a limited zone around itself in a way that some of the sites in the zone demonstrate a great preference for nucleating a new cluster, while in the other sites the nucleation is greatly suppressed. Outside the zone, the nucleation probability is close to that of the random nucleation simulated using Monte-Carlo technique. Energetic background of the observed phenomena has been proved using density-functional theory calculations, which clearly demonstrate that the lower the formation energy the higher the occurrence probability of a given cluster-pair configuration.  相似文献

Using scanning tunneling microscopy, phase formation and temperature-driven phase transitions in Tl/Ge(1 0 0) system have been studied. Evolution of Tl overlayer structure has been considered for three temperature ranges, including around room temperature (RT), high-temperature (HT) (350-450 K) and low-temperature (LT) (20-100 K) ranges. Upon RT growth, a 2 × 1-Tl phase develops in submonolayer range and is completed at around 1 ML of Tl. Cooling of the RT-deposited Tl overlayer results in formation of a set of various LT structures. These are 1D chains, 5 × 4-Tl and “stroked” phases observed in submonolayer range and a long-period c(12 × 14)-Tl phase developed at around 1 ML. All transitions between these RT and LT structures are reversible. At doses beyond 1 ML, RT deposition of Tl onto Ge(1 0 0) leads to the growth of second-layer Tl stripes, forming arrays with a 1 × 4 periodicity. Meanwhile, structure of the first layer also changes and it displays a set of various reconstructions, c(2 × 8), c(10 × 6) and c(10 × 7). All these structures remain unchanged upon cooling to LT. Growth at HT as well as heating of RT-deposited Tl overlayer irreversibly produces 3 × 2-Tl phase whose rows become decorated by second-layer Tl stripes at prolonged Tl deposition.  相似文献

A calculation has been performed for the interaction force and the field strength in a system consisting of two charged conducting balls in three cases: 1) the balls are maintained at the preset potentials; 2) the balls are insulated and have fixed charges; 3) one of the balls has the preset potential, and the second one has the preset charge. Experimental measurements of forces in the first and third cases were performed and fair agreement with calculations was confirmed. A calculation method has been suggested, and the electric field strength on the nearest poles of the balls has been calculated for the three mentioned cases. A good agreement with the other authors' calculation results has been demonstrated.  相似文献

The SPE growth of Si on Si---Sb surface phases has been studied by LEED and AES techniques. The surface phases studied were the disordered Si(100)---Sb and the ordered one. Both surface phases have an Sb coverage of about one monolayer. Structures with single δ-doped layers and a δiδi-superlattice have been grown. The structural perfection of the grown Si films has been characterized on the basis of LEED data. The peculiarities of the annealing behaviour of Si films thinner than 10 nm have been detected.  相似文献

There are many reports1 of the pyrolysis of fluorinated organic compounds, including the defluorination of cyclic fluorocarbons over iron to give aromatic compounds. Extending this technique we have investigated the flow pyrolysis of some readily accessible unsaturated fluorocarbons, such as I, II, and III, and found these to be synthetically
useful routes to fluorinated dienes, cyclobutenes, and furans. Pyrolyses were carried out using a nitrogen flow over platinum, iron or caesium fluoride heated at 430–700°. The various products can all be rationalized in terms of intermediate allylic radicals, and the solid substrate influences which allylic radicals are formed.We are also investigating the chemistry of those now accessible compounds, such as IV, V, and VI, and some of the preliminary results are described.
For example the fluoride ion induced dimerisation of IV gave two major products VII and VIII via a particular interesting mechanism.

Depositing particles randomly on a 1D lattice is expected to result in an equal number of particle pairs separated by even or odd lattice units. Unexpectedly, the even-odd symmetry is broken in the self-selection of distances between indium magic-number clusters on a Si(100)-2×1 reconstructed surface. Cluster pairs separated by even units are less abundant because they are linked by silicon atomic chains carrying topological solitons, which induce local strain and create localized electronic states with higher energy. Our findings reveal a unique particle-particle interaction mediated by the presence or absence of topological solitons on alternate lattices.  相似文献
