In this paper, we propose a new methodology for numerically solving elliptic and parabolic equations with discontinuous coefficients and singular source terms. This new scheme is obtained by clubbing a recently developed higher‐order compact methodology with special interface treatment for the points just next to the points of discontinuity. The overall order of accuracy of the scheme is at least second. We first formulate the scheme for one‐dimensional (1D) problems, and then extend it directly to two‐dimensional (2D) problems in polar coordinates. In the process, we also perform convergence and related analysis for both the cases. Finally, we show a new direction of implementing the methodology to 2D problems in cartesian coordinates. We then conduct numerous numerical studies on a number of problems, both for 1D and 2D cases, including the flow past circular cylinder governed by the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. We compare our results with existing numerical and experimental results. In all the cases, our formulation is found to produce better results on coarser grids. We present an analytical and experimental study of a novel confocal optical pulse stretcher (COPS). The simple and passive pulse stretcher consists of two concave mirrors and a scraper beam-splitter and its optical configuration ensures a perfect spatial overlapping of laser pulses at the beam-splitter. The pulse stretcher is compact and suitable for laser pulses of large divergences. The confocal optical pulse stretcher is demonstrated on a pulsed copper vapour laser to convert a 40 ns (1/e2 % points) pulse into a 55 ns with reduction of peak power by a factor of 1.375 without loss of pulse energy.  相似文献

The behaviour of a weakly non-linear third order system under a weak forcing function is considered. By the method of multiple time scales, it is found that the amplitude of the forced oscillation increases with the amplitude of the forcing function until a critical value is reached. Beyond this value, stable oscillations exist whose amplitude decreases with the amplitude of the forcing function but which are superimposed on a constant of increasing magnitude.  相似文献

A solution phase strategy for the multiple parallel synthesis of a demonstration library of indazoles is described by which regio-selectivity problems inherent to previous syntheses of this nucleus are largely overcome. Synthesis of selected components proceeded satisfactorily indicating that a fully realized library of indazole analogs could readily be produced using this methodology. Simple modifications of the basic nucleophilic aromatic substitution route unambiguously produce a range of N-1 substitutions (alkyl, aryl and aralkyl) in 50-75% yields. Next a range of substituents was introduced at the C-3 position in 50-80% yields by O-alkylation. Careful choice of reagents and reaction conditions were required to prevent by-product formation due to competing alkylation at N-2 (trace to 15% yields). When present, these contaminants were readily removed by chromofiltration. A third diversity site was sketched in at C-5 in 75-90% yield by reductive alkylation or acylation. Screening of some of the demonstration library members in vitro revealed highly active antioxidants suggesting that producing a full library would be worthwhile.  相似文献

The effect of UVB irradiation on the phycobilisomes (PBSs) of Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942 cells was studied. The sucrose density-gradient-isolated PBSs from in vivo UVB-treated (280–320 nm) cells showed a strong decrease in β-phycocyanin (βPC) and -phycocyanin (PC) polypeptides. In addition to a decrease in the linker polypeptides LCM 75 (linker connecting the core to the thylakoid membranes), LR 33 (linker in the rod structure), LRC 31.5 (linker connecting the rod to the core) and LRC 29. In vitro UVB treatment of gradient-isolated intact PBSs for 1 h had no effect on any of the constituent polypeptides, and only after 2 h was a degradation of LCM 75 and LR 33 and a decrease in βPC evident. Further investigation of phycobiliproteins (4 h of UVB irradiation) using polyclonal antibody directed against purified whole PBSs revealed that, in vivo, there was a gradual decline in the levels of LCM 75, LR 33, LRC 31.5, LRC 29, βPC and PC.  相似文献

The new cationic mononuclear complexes [(η6-arene)Ru(Ph-BIAN)Cl]BF46-arene = benzene (1), p-cymene (2)], [(η5-C5H5)Ru(Ph-BIAN)PPh3]BF4 (3) and [(η5-C5Me5)M(Ph-BIAN)Cl]BF4 [M = Rh (4), Ir (5)] incorporating 1,2-bis(phenylimino)acenaphthene (Ph-BIAN) are reported. The complexes have been fully characterized by analytical and spectral (IR, NMR, FAB-MS, electronic and emission) studies. The molecular structure of the representative iridium complex [(η5-C5Me5)Ir(Ph-BIAN)Cl]BF4 has been determined crystallographically. Complexes 15 effectively catalyze the reduction of terephthaldehyde in the presence of HCOOH/CH3COONa in water under aerobic conditions and, among these complexes the rhodium complex [(η5-C5Me5)Rh(Ph-BIAN)Cl]BF4 (4) displays the most effective catalytic activity.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of binuclear ruthenium complexes [{(η6-C6H6)Ru}2(μ-bsh)2] (1), [{(η6-C10H14)Ru}2(μ-bsh)2] (2), [{(η6-C6Me6)Ru}2(μ-bsh)2] (3), and rhodium complex [{(η5-C5Me5)RhCl}2(μ-bsh)] (4) (bsh=N,N-bis(salicylidine)-hydrazine dianion) are reported. The complexes have been fully characterized by analytical and spectral techniques and unusual coordination mode of the ligand H2bsh has been confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis of the complex 2. Structural data revealed extensive inter- and intra-molecular C-H?O and C-H?π interactions and involvement of methyl and isopropyl hydrogen from the p-cymene in hydrogen bonding.  相似文献
