The study aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of Mustard (Brassica juncea) and Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf extracts and coagulant protein for their potential application in water treatment. Bacterial cell aggregation and growth kinetics studies were employed for thirteen bacterial strains with different concentrations of leaf extracts and coagulant protein. Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MOS) and coagulant protein showed cell aggregation against ten bacterial strains, whereas leaf extract alone showed growth inhibition of five bacterial strains for up to 6 h and five bacterial strains for up to 3 h. Brassica juncea leaf extract (BJS) showed growth inhibition for up to 6 h, and three bacterial strains showed inhibition for up to 3 h. The highest inhibition concentration with 2.5 mg/mL was 19 mm, and furthermore, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (0.5 mg/mL) and MBC (1.5 mg/mL) were determined to have a higher antibacterial effect for <3 KDa peptides. Based on LCMS analysis, napin was identified in both MOS and BJS; furthermore, the mode of action of napin peptide was determined on lipoprotein X complex (LpxC) and four-chained structured binding protein of bacterial type II topoisomerase (4PLB). The docking analysis has exhibited moderate to potent inhibition with a range of dock score −912.9 Kcal/mol. Thus, it possesses antibacterial-coagulant potential bioactive peptides present in the Moringa oleifera purified protein (MOP) and Brassica juncea purified protein (BJP) that could act as an effective antimicrobial agent to replace currently available antibiotics. The result implies that MOP and Brassica juncea purified coagulant (BJP) proteins may perform a wide degree of antibacterial functions against different pathogens.  相似文献

Glycogen–iodine (GI) complex formation has been studied at different concentrations of iodine and glycogen. For each glycogen concentration (0.25, 0.125, 0.0625, 0.0313 g/L), the iodine concentration was varied from 0.0317 to 1.59 g/L and the absorbance readings were taken at 453 and 560 nm (GI wavelengths of maximum absorbance). The 453 nm absorbance curves for the GI solution (GI complex and unreacted iodine), and that of the pure iodine solution (without glycogen) level off at a high iodine concentration, and give a peak in the subtracted curve. The 560 nm curves consistently increase in absorbance, and no peak is noticed in the subtracted curve. The spectra of concentrated iodine solutions in water and alcohol suggest the formation of neutral iodine clusters. We suggest that these iodine clusters do not react with glycogen, and that the GI complex formation takes place by the addition of I2 molecules. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Chloroform extract from the leaves of Turraea vogelii Hook f. ex Benth demonstrated cytotoxic activity against a chronic myelogenous leukemia cell, K-562 with IC50 of 14.27 μg/mL, while chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts from the stem of the plant inhibited K-562 cells growth with IC50 of 19.50, 24.10 and 85.40 μg/mL respectively. Bioactive chloroform extract of Turraea vogelii leaves affords two triterpenoids: oleana-12,15,20-trien-3β-ol (1), and oleana-11,13-dien-3β,16α,28-triol (2), with six fatty esters, ethyl hexaeicos-5-enoate (3), 3-hydroxy-1,2,3-propanetriyltris(tetadecanoate) (4), 1,2,3-propanetriyl(7Z,7′Z,7′′Z)tris(-7-hexadecenoate) (5), 1,2,3-propanetriyl(5Z,5′Z,5′′Z)tris(-5-hexadecenoate) (6), 1,2,3-propanetriyltris(octadecanoate) (7), and 2β-hydroxymethyl tetraeicosanoate (8). Tetradecane (9), four fatty acids: hexadecanoic acid (10), tetradecanoic acid (11), (Z)-9-eicosenoic acid (12), and ethyl tetradec-7-enoate (13) were isolated from chloroform extract of Turraea vogelii stem. 1,2,3-propanetriyltris(heptadecanoate) (14), (Z)-9-octadecenoic acid (15) and (Z)-7-tetradecenoic acid (16) were isolated from ethyl acetate extract while (Z)-5-pentadecenoic acid (17) was obtained from methanol extract of the plant stem. Compounds 1, 2, 5, 6, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17 exhibited pronounced antiproliferative activity against K-562 cell lines.  相似文献

Expansion of the genetic alphabet is an ambitious goal. A recent breakthrough has led to the eight-base (hachimoji) genetics having canonical and unnatural bases. However, very little is known on the molecular-level features that facilitate the candidature of unnatural bases as genetic alphabets. Here we amalgamated DFT calculations and MD simulations to analyse the properties of the constituents of hachimoji DNA and RNA. DFT reveals the dominant syn conformation for isolated unnatural deoxyribonucleosides and at the 5′-end of oligonucleotides, although an anti/syn mixture is predicted at the nonterminal and 3′-terminal positions. However, isolated ribonucleotides prefer an anti/syn mixture, but mostly prefer anti conformation at the nonterminal positions. Further, the canonical base pairing combinations reveals significant strength, which may facilitate replication of hachimoji DNA. We also identify noncanonical base pairs that can better tolerate the substitution of unnatural pairs in RNA. Stacking strengths of 51 dimers reveals higher average stacking stabilization of dimers of hachimoji bases than canonical bases, which provides clues for choosing energetically stable sequences. A total of 14.4 μs MD simulations reveal the influence of solvent on the properties of hachimoji oligonucleotides and point to the likely fidelity of replication of hachimoji DNA. Our results pinpoint the features that explain the experimentally observed stability of hachimoji DNA.  相似文献

Cellulose nanocrystal-reinforced poly(vinyl alcohol)/silica glass hybrid scaffolds were fabricated using the freeze-drying method. In this study, we develop molecular-level-based hybrid scaffolds with possible bioactivity behavior by adding silica sol–gel. The results showed a highly porous structure and a significant improvement in mechanical performance (stiffness) of hybrid scaffolds with an increased content of cellulose nanocrystals followed by the addition of silica-based bioactive glass. In vitro cell study with MC3T3-E1 cells on hybrid scaffolds for 1 and 3 days revealed good cell adhesion and growth. Thus, the obtained hybrid scaffold may be a competitive candidate for bone tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

The title compound, methylene bis[bis(N,N‐diethyl­amino)­carbeniumdi­thio­carboxyl­ate] penta­chloro­oxo­rhenium, (C21H42N4S4)[ReCl5O], is the result of an unusual dimerization of the ligand bis(N,N‐diethyl­amino)­carbeniumdi­thio­carboxyl­ate [(Et2N)2C2S2] upon reaction with [ReOCl3(PPh3)2] in chloro­form under reflux conditions. The compound was obtained as a dicationic moiety, with the molecular [ReOCl5]2− anion providing the charge compensation. The planes of the carbenium and thio­carboxyl­ate moieties are nearly perpendicular to one another and the backbone C—C bond length in the N2CCS2 group is the same as a normal C—C single‐bond length.  相似文献

The new materials CsPbBi(3)Te(6) and CsPb(2)Bi(3)Te(7) were discovered through reactions of CsBi(4)Te(6) with PbTe, whereas the isostructural materials CsSnBi(3)Te(6) and CsSn(2)Bi(3)Te(7) were discovered through corresponding reactions with SnTe. The compounds can also be prepared from stoichiometric mixtures of Cs(2)Te, Pb (Sn), Bi, and Te. The crystal structures show a layered architecture of NaCl-type slabs alternating with layers of Cs atoms. This group of compounds offers a new quaternary system, Cs-M-Bi-Te (M = Pb and Sn), available for thermoelectric investigations, including fine-tuning of compositions and doping.  相似文献

Embryogenic tissues of Dioscorea bulbifera were cryopreserved using the encapsulation-dehydration technique. Genetic stability of plants regenerated from cryopreserved embryogenic tissues was assessed using molecular, biochemical and morphological analysis. The random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis of 60 cryopreserved-derived and 20 in vitro grown (control) plantlets showed that 10 primers produced 62 clear reproducible DNA fragment profiles. The amplification products were monomorphic for all the plantlets except one. A total of 4960 DNA fragments were obtained from this study showing no variation in RAPD profiles. The diosgenin content of cryopreserved-derived plants, analyzed using HPLC, was similar to that of control plants. Morphology and the ability to form microtuber were also found to be unaltered in cryopreserved embryo-derived plantlets. Thus, the D. bulbifera plants regenerated from cryopreserved embryogenic tissues were genetically stable at the molecular, biochemical and morphological levels.  相似文献

Kinetics of the oxidation of citric acid (CA) by N-bromophthalimide (NBP) has been studied in the presence of cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at 35°C. The CMC value is lower than those given in the literature for aqueous solutions of CTAB without added electrolyte. The reaction is strongly catalyzed by cationic micelle, CTAB with a progressive increase in CTAB concentration the reaction rate increased, at higher concentration constancy in the rate constant was observed. The reaction follows first and fractional order kinetics in NBP and citric acid, respectively. The reaction follows inverse fractional order with respect to perchloric acid. The Arrhenius equation is found to be valid for the reaction. A detailed mechanism with the associated reaction kinetics is discussed. The catalytic role of CTAB micelles is discussed in terms of the Menger and Portnoy model.  相似文献

The odd mass nucleus 137Pm has been studied to high spins through the 109Ag(32S, 2p2n)137Pm reaction at an incident beam energy of 150 MeV. The de-exciting ??-rays were detected using an array of 18 Compton suppressed clover detectors. The level scheme of 137Pm has been extended up to $J^\pi = \tfrac{{43}} {2}^ -$ and excitation energy of E x ? 6 MeV with the observation of 42 new gamma transitions. The linear polarization (IPDCO) measurements for the ??-ray transitions have been done for the first time. The spin and parity assignments for most of the reported levels have been made using these results and the coincidence angular anisotropy (RDCO) measurements. The nuclear shape evolution is discussed in the light of Total Routhian Surface (TRS) and Cranked Shell Model (CSM) calculations.  相似文献
