We have synthesized Dy3+-doped ZnO nanoparticles at room temperature through the sol–gel method. X-ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscopic studies confirm the crystalline nature of the particles. Excitonic absorption of ZnO shows three different bands, and we observe that incorporation of Dy3+ results in the shifting and broadening of the n=1 absorption band of ZnO. Photoluminescence studies done at the excitation wavelength of 335 nm show broad emission containing five different bands. Open-aperture z-scan studies done at 532 nm using 5 ns laser pulses show an optical limiting behavior, which numerically fits to a three-photon type absorption process. The nonlinearity is essentially resonant, as it is found to increase consistently with Dy3+ concentration. This feature makes Dy3+-doped ZnO a flexible optical limiter for potential device applications.  相似文献

These intriguing materials are of fundamental importance not only as models for the study of energy and charge migration in self-organised systems, but also as functional materials for various device applications. The effect of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) of diameters 6 and 100 nm on a discotic liquid crystalline material, namely 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexabutyloxytriphenylene (in short HAT4), has been observed in thermodynamic, electrical and optical texture studies. Silver nanoparticles (0.6 wt%) of diameter ~6 nm demonstrate a negligible (but ~100 nm shows appreciable) effect on the broad temperature range plastic columnar hexagonal (Colhex) phase (~65.0°C) of pure HAT4. The dielectric studies have been carried out in the frequency range of 10 Hz–35 MHz under homeotropic anchoring conditions of the molecules. In the low frequency region of pure HAT4 and its AgNP composites, a relaxation mode has been observed. AgNPs of 6 nm elevate the value of dielectric permittivity of the plastic columnar hexagonal phase of pure HAT4. The dc conductivity of pure HAT4 and its AgNP composite (6 and 100 nm) material has been determined. The optical band gap for pure and AgNP composites of HAT4 has been determined by the ultraviolet-visible study. Due to insertion of AgNPs, the optical band gap of HAT4 has reduced.  相似文献

Triphenylene-based discotic liquid crystals, which have already been used commercially in phase compensation films to improve the viewing angle of liquid crystal display devices, also have application potential as one-dimensional charge carrier systems useful in electrical conduction, photoconduction, electroluminescence, photovoltaic solar cells, gas sensing, optical data storage and other devices. Over the past 25 years, more than 500 triphenylene derivatives have been synthesized to explore these possibilities. Cammidge and Bushby reviewed the chemistry and physical properties of about 100 triphenylene-based discotic liquid crystals prepared up to 1995. This review summarizes advances in the chemistry of triphenylene-based discotic liquid crystals since late 1995.  相似文献

The phase transition behaviour of three homologous discotic mesogens, the hexa‐n‐alkoxyanthraquinones HOAQ(n), n indicating the number of carbon atoms in the alkoxy group, was investigated under hydrostatic pressures up to 500?MPa using a high pressure differential thermal analyser. The T vs. P phase diagrams of HOAQ(6), HOAQ(8) and HOAQ(9) were constructed for solution‐ (Cr0) and melt‐crystallized (Cr1) samples of the compounds. HOAQ(6) shows the reversible Cr0–rectangular columnar phase (Colr)–hexagonal columnar phase (Colh)–isotropic liquid (I) phase sequence at atmospheric pressure. The stable Colr phase of HOAQ(6) has a decreased temperature range with increasing pressure and then the Colr phase disappears under pressures above about 350?MPa; instead the Cr0–Colh–I phase sequence is exhibited. For HOAQ(8), the solution‐grown sample exhibits the stable Cr0–Colh–I phase sequence at atmospheric pressure. Applying pressure to the solution‐grown sample induces the formation of the stable Colr phase in the pressure region between 10 and 350?MPa, leading to the Cr0–Colr–Colh–I phase sequence. The pressure‐induced Colr phase disappears under higher pressures. The melt‐cooled sample of HOAQ(8) shows the formation of the metastable crystal (Cr1), unknown mesophase (X) and Colr phases at lower temperatures under atmospheric pressure, and exhibits the reversible Cr1–X–Colr–Colh–I phase sequence on subsequent thermal cycles. The metastable phase sequence was observed under pressures up to 100?MPa, but the phase transitions were too small to be detected under higher pressures. In HOAQ(9) the stable Cr0–Colh–I phase sequence is observed at all pressures, while the melt‐cooled sample shows the metastable Cr1–Colr–Colh–I phase sequence under pressures up to 300?MPa. The metastable Colr phase disappears under higher pressures.  相似文献

Phenomenon of clouding in charged micellar solutions is a fairly recent addition to conventional phenomenon shown by aqueous nonionic micelles. In this paper, we have tested a Hofmeister-like ordering of charged headgroups in the context of cloud point (CP) and micellar growth. For this purpose, we have used various combinations of surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS; sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, SDBS; sodium salts of α-sulfonato myristic acid methyl ester, MES; and α-sulfonato palmitic acid methyl ester, PES) and tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB). Different surfactant concentrations and TBAB concentrations are used and CP measurements have been performed. CP values were found in the order SDBS?<?SDS?<?PES?<?MES for the same concentration of surfactant and TBAB. This order has been discussed in the light of water affinities of interacting ionic species (i.e., surfactant headgroup and TBA+ counterion). The ordering was found similar for the case of micellar growth studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS). A bimodal distribution of aggregate size was found that transforms to giant aggregates at CP. The micelles of roughly 10-nm size convert to aggregates of 1 μm. The study has a few novelties: (1) headgroup dependence of CP, (2) micellar growth on heating, and (3) confirmation of Hofmeister-like series of headgroup.  相似文献

In modern drug designing, molecular docking is routinely used for understanding drug-receptor interaction. In the present study six imidazole derivatives containing substituted pyrazole moiety (2a,b and 4ad) were synthesized. Structures of the newly synthesized compounds were characterized by spectral studies. Compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity. Compound 4c was found to be potent antimicrobial against Pseudomonas aeruginosa at concentrations of 1 and 0.5 mg/mL compared to standard drug Streptomycin. All the compounds were subjected to molecular docking studies for the inhibition of the enzyme l-glutamine: d-fructose-6-phosphate amidotransferase[GlcN-6-P] (EC 2.6.1.16). The in silico molecular docking study results showed that, all the synthesized compounds having minimum binding energy and have good affinity toward the active pocket, thus, they may be considered as good inhibitor of GlcN-6-P synthase.  相似文献

A multi-tone radio over fiber (RoF) system design for three RF signals has been investigated for different modulation techniques like direct and external modulation with EDFA and SOA amplification techniques. Frequency response has been studied including the effects of third order intermodulation terms. Frequency separation between the modulating tones has been varied to study its impact on received carrier power. The performance in terms of electrical RF power of three receiving channels at different frequency separations using different amplification techniques have been measured and compared. An improvement in the received RF power and IM suppression has been observed by using an external modulation based system with EDFA amplifier.  相似文献

To study dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with core‐modified porphyrins as the sensitizing dyes, three porphyrins with an ethynyl benzoic acid as an anchoring group are prepared. The properties of free‐base regular porphyrin (N4), thiaporphyrin (N3S) and oxaporphyrin (N3O) were thoroughly studied by spectroscopic methods, DFT calculations, and photovoltaic measurements. Replacing one of the porphyrinic core nitrogen atoms by oxygen or sulfur considerably changes the absorption spectra. The Soret band of the N3O and N3S observed bathochromic shifts of 3‐9 nm while the Q band reaches 700 nm to the near‐infrared region. The overall conversion efficiencies of the DSSCs based on these porphyrins are in the order N4 (3.66%) ? N3S (0.22%) > N3O (0.01%). The time‐correlated single photon counting observed short fluorescence lifetimes for N3O adsorbed both on TiO2 and Al2O3 which explicates the poor efficiency of DSSC using N3O as the photosensitizer.  相似文献

In the present study attempt has been made to generate elemental profile database for major sources of soil pollution, specific to Visakhapatnam. Representative road dust and soil samples from major industrial locations were collected and analyzed for various metals distribution using EDXRF. Analysis results indicate that V and Ni were predominant at PR and Zn was found to be dominating in road dust samples. Higher concentration of Arsenic was observed at TPP as compared to all other sites. Cr was found to be dominating at TPP and SP. I geo calculations suggest that soil is highly contaminated with heavy metal pollutants.  相似文献
