The isotropic - blue phases - cholesteric phase transitions are studied in a thermotropic (COC) by image processing and refractive index measurements. Textures of blue phases are optically characterized as well as their transition points. The experimental investigation employed here is sensitive to detect changes in the structural configuration of blue phases as a consequence of our refractive index data. In the present work a geometrically non-linear model is presented to study the coupling of axial and torsional vibrations on a drill-string, which is described as a vertical slender beam under axial rotation. It is known that the geometrical non-linearities play an important role in the stiffening of a beam. Here, the geometrical stiffening is analyzed using a non-linear finite element approximation, in which large rotations and non-linear strain-displacements are taken into account. The effect of structural damping is also included in the model. To help to understand these effects comparisons of the present model with linear ones were simulated. The preliminary analysis shows that linear and non-linear models differ considerably after the first periods of stick-slip. The behavior is more evident with the increase of the friction in the lower part of the drill.  相似文献

High-level CASSCF/MRCI calculations with a quintuple-ζ quality basis set are reported by characterizing for the first time a manifold of electronic states of the CAs radical yet to be investigated experimentally. Along with the potential energy curves and the associated spectroscopic constants, the dipole moment functions for selected electronic states as well as the transition dipole moment functions for the most relevant electronic transitions are also presented. Estimates of radiative transition probabilities and lifetimes complement this investigation, which also assesses the effect of spin-orbit interaction on the A (2)Π state. Whenever pertinent, comparisons of similarities and differences with the isovalent CN and CP radicals are made.  相似文献

We show in a diagrammatic and regularization independent analysis that the quadratic contribution to the beta function which has been conjectured to render quantum electrodynamics asymptotically free near the Planck scale has its origin in a surface term. Such surface term is intrinsically arbitrarily valued and it is argued to vanish in a consistent treatment of the model.  相似文献

We study a matter wave double-slit experiment with unequal aperture widths in order to evaluate the effect of the Gouy phase on the visibility/predictability. While the predictability changes as one increases the width of one of the slits, the visibility receives a contribution from the Gouy phase at a specific point in the detection screen. Consequently such apparatus constitutes a simple device for measuring the Gouy phase of matter waves. We illustrate it numerically for neutrons.  相似文献

We propose a nonmonotone adaptive trust region method based on simple conic model for unconstrained optimization. Unlike traditional trust region methods, the subproblem in our method is a simple conic model, where the Hessian of the objective function is approximated by a scalar matrix. The trust region radius is adjusted with a new self-adaptive adjustment strategy which makes use of the information of the previous iteration and current iteration. The new method needs less memory and computational efforts. The global convergence and Q-superlinear convergence of the algorithm are established under the mild conditions. Numerical results on a series of standard test problems are reported to show that the new method is effective and attractive for large scale unconstrained optimization problems.  相似文献
