Low toxic InP/ZnS quantum dots (QDs), ZnS:Mn2+/ZnS nanocrystals and CdSe/ZnS nanoparticles were rendered water-dispersible by different ligand-exchange methods. Eventually,
they were coated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein. All particles were characterised by isotachophoresis
(ITP), laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) and agarose gel electrophoresis. It was found that the electrophoretic mobility and
colloidal stability of ZnS:Mn2+/ZnS and CdSe/ZnS nanoparticles, which bore short-chain surface ligands, was primarily governed by charges on the nanoparticles,
whereas InP/ZnS nanocrystals were not charged per se. BSA-coated nanoparticles showed lower electrophoretic mobility, which
was attributed to their larger size and smaller overall charge. However, these particles were colloidally stable. This stability

An aqueous extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. is a common beverage in many parts of the world. Reports on its effect on reproduction are conflicting, with anecdotal evidence that the plant is an aphrodisiac, while others report that it is estrogenic, and adversely affects spermatogenesis in rats. We have studied the effect of different concentrations of aqueous extracts of H. sabdariffa calyces (10%, 15% and 20%) used as drinking water for 10 consecutive weeks, and its anthocyanins (50, 100, 200 mg/kg for 5 days, orally) on the weight and histology of the testis, and on some biochemical constituents in testicular homogenates, in addition to the plasma concentrations of testosterone, luteinizing hormone and estradiol. The possible presence of an estrogenic effect of the extract and anthocyanins on the uteri of immature female rats was also tested. Neither the H. sabdariffa extract nor the anthocyanins significantly altered either testicular weight and histology, or uterus weight. Plasma concentrations of the three hormones studied, the testicular concentrations of protein, reduced glutathione and total cholesterol, and superoxide dismutase activity were all insignificantly affected by either the extract or the anthocyanins, except for a slight, but statistically significant, decrease in testicular protein concentration caused by the 15% aqueous extract when compared with controls. These results suggest that H. sabdariffa exerts no adverse effect on the male reproductive system. Consumption of H. sabdariffa aqueous extract inhibited the growth of the rats compared with the controls. 相似文献

In experimental and clinical studies, expression of surface adhesion molecules such as ?2-integrine (CD11b) and L-selectin (CD62L) on polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNL) are investigated to assess certain crucial innate immune functions. Because the expression of CD11b and CD62L on PMNL can alter they cannot be quantified reliably when the time between blood draw and measurements is prolonged. Goals of this study were to test effects of cryopreservation on the expression of CD11b and CD62L on human PMNLs either under native conditions as well as after stimulation-dependant adhesion molecules′ expression pattern. CD11b and CD62L expression on PMNL can be cryopreserved with 10% of PEG-solution for at least one month at -60 degree C. This was observed in native, unstimulated as well as in stimulated cell-preparations. CD11b is very stable in contrast to CD62L expression which appears to be more susceptible to alteration due to freezing-thawing. Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) compounds filled with 40 phr of high abrasion furnace black (HAF) and HAF (20 phr)/graphite (20 phr) were experimentally investigated. The stress-strain curves of the composites were studied, which are described by applying Ogden's model. The effect of cyclic fatigue and hysteresis was also examined. The dissipation energy that indicates the vibration damping capacity for all samples was determined. A continuum damage model is used to investigate the fatigue damage behavior for elastomers. Experiments on the cyclic fatigue of a carbon-filled NBR rubber and carbon/graphite filled NBR rubber were conducted to determine the relation between the number of cyclic fatigue and the strain amplitude. The results indicate that the theoretical formula for the number of cyclic fatigue as a function of the strain amplitude, derived from the damage model, can describe experimental data for the prepared samples very well. 相似文献

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used successfully for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution. Characterization techniques showed the carbon as nanotubes with an average diameter between 40 and 60 nm and a specific surface area of 61.5 m2 g?1. The effect of carbon nanotubes mass, contact time, metal ions concentration, solution pH, and ionic strength on the adsorption of Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II) and Zn(II) by MWCNTs were studied and optimized. The adsorption of the heavy metals from aqueous solution by MWCNTs was studied kinetically using different kinetic models. A pseudo-second order model and the Elovich model were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. The mechanism of adsorption was studied by the intra-particle diffusion model, and the results showed that intra-particle diffusion was not the slowest of the rate processes that determined the overall order. This model also revealed that the interaction of the metal ions with the MWCNTs surface might have been the most significant rate process. There was a competition among the metal ions for binding of the active sites present on the MWCNTs surface with affinity in the following order: Cu(II) > Zn(II) > Pb(II) > Cd(II). 相似文献

Multivariate polynomial dynamical systems over finite fields have been studied in several contexts, including engineering and mathematical biology. An important problem is to construct models of such systems from a partial specification of dynamic properties, e.g., from a collection of state transition measurements. Here, we consider static models, which are directed graphs that represent the causal relationships between system variables, so-called wiring diagrams. This paper contains an algorithm which computes all possible minimal wiring diagrams for a given set of state transition measurements. The paper also contains several statistical measures for model selection. The algorithm uses primary decomposition of monomial ideals as the principal tool. An application to the reverse-engineering of a gene regulatory network is included. The algorithm and the statistical measures are implemented in Macaulay 2, and are available from the authors. 相似文献

In this paper we extend the notion of almost valuation and almost Bézout domains to arbitrary commutative rings, and we investigate the transfer of these properties to trivial ring extensions and amalgamated algebras along an ideal. Our aim is to provide new classes of commutative rings satisfying these properties. The crystal structures of diphenyl (cycloheptylamido)phosphate, C19H24NO3P or (C6H5O)2P(O)(NHC7H13), ( I ), and diphenyl (dibenzylamido)phosphate, C26H24NO3P or (C6H5O)2P(O)[N(CH2C6H5)2], ( II ), are reported. The NHC7H13 group in ( I ) provides two significant hydrogen‐donor sites in N—H…O and C—H…O hydrogen bonds, needed for a one‐dimensional hydrogen‐bond pattern along [100] in the crystal, while ( II ), with a (C6H5CH2)2N moiety, lacks these hydrogen bonds, but its three‐dimensional supramolecular structure is mediated by C—H…π interactions. The conformational behaviour of the phenyl rings in ( I ), ( II ) and analogous structures from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) were studied in terms of flexibility, volume of the other group attached to phosphorus and packing forces. From this study, synclinal (±sc), anticlinal (±ac) and antiperiplanar (±ap) conformations were found to occur. In the structure of ( II ), there is an intramolecular Cortho—H…O interaction that imposes a +sc conformation for the phenyl ring involved. For the structures from the CSD, the +sc and ±ap conformations appear to be mainly imposed by similar Cortho—H…O intramolecular interactions. The large contribution of the C…H/H…C contacts (32.3%) in the two‐dimensional fingerprint plots of ( II ) is a result of the C—H…π interactions. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses exhibit peak temperatures (Tm) at 109 and 81 °C for ( I ) and ( II ), respectively, which agree with the strengths of the intermolecular contacts and the melting points. 相似文献
