The current investigation involves a continuous adsorption experiment in a packed bed column for the sorptive elucidation of fluoride from contaminated groundwater using an activated soil-clay mixture. Through the combination of naturally accessible laterite soil with silica enriched clay (3:1 ratio), a low-cost Al–Si heterogeneous material has been developed. Following detailed characterization, the developed materials were employed in a long-time column process to achieve a high degree of fluoride separation from real-world groundwater. In a packed bed column investigation, the effect of bed height, initial fluoride concentration, and flow rate on the breakthrough properties of the adsorption system were investigated. By using a non-linear regression equation, three model kinetics, such as the Thomas Model, Adams-Bohart Model, and Yoon-Nelson Model, were fitted to validate the column-based experimental data, by analysing the breakthrough curves profiles, and distinct kinetic parameters. The Bed Depth Service Time Analysis (BDST) model was tested to express the effect of bed height on breakthrough curves, as well as to predict the time for breakthrough, and material depletion under optimal conditions. The Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models were identified to be the most appropriate ones for describing the entire breakthrough curve, whereas the Adams-Bohart model was only utilised to predict the first half of the dynamic process. With correlation coefficients (R2) 0.96, the experimental results were well suited to Thomas, Yoon-Nelson, and Adams-Bohart models. Finally, regeneration assessment was carried out where even after four cycles of operation, regenerated adsorbent showed a rejection efficacy of 78% to fluoride that proves the viability of the material and methodology. 相似文献

Synthesis of pure Zinc oxide (ZnO), Copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (NPs) and their (ZnO/CuO) nanocomposites (NCs) in 1:1 M ratio were successfully prepared by co-precipitation method. The structural properties of the as synthesized nanoparticles and nanocomposite materials were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Optical band-gap studies were done using UV–Visible absorption spectroscopy. Photovoltaic properties of pure ZnO NPs, CuO NPs and ZnO/CuO NCs coated over a single-crystalline silicon solar cell were carried out to compare improvement of light-conversion efficiency in coated solar cell. The maximum light conversion efficiencies were found to be of 8.02% for CuO (3 mg/ml concentration) and 7.28% for ZnO NPs (3 mg/ml concentration), whereas that of mixed metal nanocomposite CuO/ZnO NCs was found to be 7.62%. at very low concentration of 1 mg/ml. This indicates with low concentration of mixed metal NCs an improvement in light efficiency can be obtained. The enhancement in efficiency could be due to formation of p - n heterojunction by CuO/ZnO NCs composites which enhances the number of electrons and holes participating in conduction on the surface. 相似文献

The reaction of [RuIII(edta)(SCN)]2? (edta4? = ethylenediaminetetraacetate; SCN? = thiocyanate ion) with the peroxomonosulfate ion (HSO5?) has been studied by using stopped‐flow and rapid scan spectrophotometry as a function of [RuIII(edta)], [HSO5?], and temperature (15–30ºC) at constant pH 6.2 (phosphate buffer). Spectral analyses and kinetic data are suggestive of a pathway in which HSO5? effects the oxidation of the coordinated SCN? by its direct attack at the S‐atom (of SCN?) coordinated to the RuIII(edta). The high negative value of entropy of activation (ΔS≠ = ?90 ± 6 J mol?1 deg?1) is consistent with the values reported for the oxygen atom transfer process involving heterolytic cleavage of the O‐O bond in HSO5?. Formation of SO42?, SO32?, and OCN? was identified as oxidation products in ESI‐MS experiments. A detailed mechanism in agreement with the spectral and kinetic data is presented. 相似文献

Abstract— –The high intensity laser induced photochemistry of phenanthrene is complex and appears to be non-linear with respect to laser intensity. Photochemical products primarily involve the solvent (CH2 C12 ) and phenanthrene coupling. These species exhibit strong absorption and emission which are red-shifted from that of phenanthrene. In the presence of a-methyl styrene, styrene oligomers are formed, but no dimers, indicating that there are no a-methyl styrene cation radical reactions. In all cases of laser irradiation the solutions become acidic, which is ascribed to the deprotonation of the phenanthrene cation radical. Acid formation does not occur in the presence of a-methyl styrene under CW irradiation with a conventional Xe lamp. These differences are ascribed to photoionization from the singlet state for laser irradiation while under CW conditions triplet-triplet annihilation can produce the phenanthrene cation radical. 相似文献

The D-arabinans in Mycobacterium are essential, extraordinarily complex entity comprised of d-arabinofuranose residues which are rarely found in nature. Despite the well-recognized importance of the mycobacterial arabinan, delineation of the arabinosylation process has been severely hampered due to lack of positively identified arabinosyltransferases. Identification of genes involved in arabinan biosynthesis entailed the use of ethambutol (EMB), a first-line antituberculosis agent that is known to inhibit cell wall arabinan synthesis. The three genes (embA, embB, and embC) encode novel membrane proteins, implicated as the only known mycobacterial arabinosyltransferases to this date. We have now adapted a multifaceted approach involving development of convenient arabinosyltransferase assay using novel synthetic acceptors to identify arabinosyltransferase/s that will be distinct from the Emb proteins. In our present work, Mycobacterium smegmatis mc(2) 155 (WTMsm) was used as a model to study the biosynthesis of cell wall arabinan. In an in vitro assay, we demonstrate that transfer of only alpha-Araf had occurred from decaprenylphosphoryl-D-arabinofuranose (DPA) on a newly synthesized branched acceptor [alpha-D-Araf](2)-3,5-alpha-D-Araf-(1-->5)-alpha-d-Araf-(1-->5)-alpha-D-Araf with an octyl aglycon. Higher molecular weight (up to Ara(10)) oligomers were also detected in a parallel reaction using cold phosphoribosepyrophosphate (pRpp). Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS/MS) analysis of these products revealed that isomeric products were formed and initiation and elongation of arabinan can occur either on the 5-arm or 3-arm of the branched 3,5-alpha-D-Araf. Individual embA, embB, and embC knockout strains retained this alpha-1,5 arabinosyltransferase activity, and the activity was partially inhibited by ethambutol. The charge transfer (CT) band maximum of N-alkyl pyridinium iodide (NAPI) has been studied as a function of the composition of binary mixed dipolar aprotic solvents. The deviation from linearity of the energy maximum (E12) and the mole fraction (of a component solvent) plot is explained as due to a preferential solvation by the more polar cosolvent in the binary mixture. The extent of preferential solvation has been observed to vary with the composition, the maximum being towards the less-polar end. A new s‐triazine ring containing aromatic diisocyanate bearing a pendent alkyne group, namely, 2,4‐bis(4‐isocyanatophenoxy)?6‐(prop‐2‐yn‐1‐yloxy)?1,3,5‐triazine was synthesized and reacted with various diols viz., 1,10‐decanediol, tetraethylene glycol and polyethylene glycols in the presence of dibutyltin dilaurate as the catalyst to obtain a series of linear polyurethanes. The selected polyurethanes possessing pendent alkyne groups were postmodified with chemically diverse azides viz., 1‐(azidomethyl)benzene, 1‐(azidomethyl)pyrene, and methoxy end‐caped poly(ethylene glycol) azide via copper‐catalysed azide‐alkyne Huisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition. FTIR and 1H NMR spectra indicated quantitative click reaction. UV–vis and fluorescence spectroscopic analysis confirmed complete incorporation of pyrenyl groups indicating the formation of fluorescence active polyurethane by postmodification with 1‐(azidomethyl)pyrene. TG analysis of polyurethanes indicated two stage weight loss and their thermal stability, as judged by T 10 values, was governed by weight percent of urethane linkages. The water contact angle measurements revealed improved wettability with increased content of PEG either in the backbone of polyurethanes or as grafted chains. DLS and TEM studies confirmed that certain polyurethanes possessing PEG segments displayed self‐assembly in aqueous solution, which was further supported by pyrene encapsulation studies using UV–vis spectroscopy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organometallic metal(arene) anticancer agents require ligand exchange for their anticancer activity and this is generally believed to confer low selectivity for potential cellular targets. However, using an integrated proteomics-based target-response profiling approach as a potent hypothesis-generating procedure, we found an unexpected target selectivity of a ruthenium(arene) pyridinecarbothioamide (plecstatin) for plectin, a scaffold protein and cytolinker, which was validated in a plectin knock-out model in vitro. Plectin targeting shows potential as a strategy to inhibit tumor invasiveness as shown in cultured tumor spheroids while oral administration of plecstatin-1 to mice reduces tumor growth more efficiently in the invasive B16 melanoma than in the CT26 colon tumor model. 相似文献
