On a principle of virtual work for thermo-elastic bodies

A principle of virtual work is proposed for thermo-elastic bodies. From it are derived the equations of motion, the Cauchy stress principle and the Gibbs relations. The principle is also used to analyse the response of internally constrained bodies.

Preparation,characterization and electroluminescence studies of copper doped zinc sulfide nanocrystals

Copper doped zinc sulfide nanoparticles were prepared by chemical precipitation method. The size of the particles was varied by changing the concentration of capping agent. The XRD studies indicate that most of the samples are cubic in nature. The broadening of peaks tends to increase with increasing capping agent concentration showing decrease in particle size. The crystalline size computed using Scherrer formula is found to be in range of 3–10 nm. Absorption spectra show absorption edge in UV region. The edge was found to shift towards shorter wavelength as the capping agent concentration is increased. This indicates increased effective band gap and hence reduced particle size. The nanoparticle size has been estimated in the range 5–10 nm using effective mass approximation model. For electroluminescence (EL) study of ZnS:Cu nanocrystals, the EL cells were prepared by placing ZnS:Cu nanoparticles between SnO₂ coated conducting glass plate and aluminum foil. Alternating voltage of various frequencies was applied and EL brightness (B) at different voltages (V) was measured and reported in this paper.     

Revisiting the Nutritional,Chemical and Biological Potential of Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.

The genus Cajanus (Family: Fabaceae) consists of approximately 37 species, and Cajanus cajan (C. cajan) is a significant member of the genus. It is a commercial legume crop widely grown in sub-tropical and semi-arid tropical areas of the world. C. cajan is well known for its folk medicinal uses to treat various disorders, such as toothache, dizziness, diabetes, stomachache, female ailments and chronic infections. These properties have been linked to the presence of several value-added nutritional and bioactive components. Different solvent extracts from C. cajan (leaves, root, stem and seeds) have been evaluated for their phytochemical and biological activities, namely antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, neuroprotective, and anti-inflammatory effects. Taken together, and considering the prominent nutraceutical and therapeutic properties of C. cajan, this review article focuses on the important details including ethnomedicinal uses, chemical composition, biological applications and some other medicinal aspects related to C. cajan nutraceutical and pharmacological applications.     

Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series constructed from quadratic characters

We construct multiple Dirichlet series in several complex variables whose coefficients involve quadratic residue symbols. The series are shown to have an analytic continuation and satisfy a certain group of functional equations. These are the first examples of an infinite collection of unstable Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series in greater than two variables having the properties predicted in [2].     

Treasury Management Model with Foreign Exchange Exposure

In this paper we formulate a model for foreign exchange exposure management and (international) cash management taking into consideration random fluctuations of exchange rates. A vector error correction model (VECM) is used to predict the random behaviour of the forward as well as spot rates connecting dollar and sterling. A two-stage stochastic programming (TWOSP) decision model is formulated using these random parameter values. This model computes currency hedging strategies, which provide rolling decisions of how much forward contracts should be bought and how much should be liquidated.The model decisions are investigated through ex post simulation and backtesting in which value at risk (VaR) for alternative decisions are computed. The investigation (a) shows that there is a considerable improvement to “spot only” strategy, (b) provides insight into how these decisions are made and (c) also validates the performance of this model.     

Synthesis of 6-halogenated 4H-1,4-benzothiazines

The synthesis of 6-halogenated 4H-1,4-benzothiazines is reported by the condensation and oxidative cyclization of 4-substituted 2-aminobenzenethiols (I, R = Cl, Br) with β-diketones in presence of DMSO. The ir, nmr and mass spectral studies are included. 4-Substituted 2-aminobenzenethiols were also prepared by an improved and direct method.
